the UTTER CHAOS meme

Quick! Run! Hide! Scream! Flail uselessly! That's about all you'll be able to do against... whatever we're all afraid of. Um. What was that, again? Well, nevermind, it's scary anyway.

If you're a character in this meme, you have suddenly found yourself amidst a group of people, all of whom are panicking about... something. For the moment, it's not immediately obvious what that something is, but it seems like they all know something you don't. Maybe there's a tornado coming. Maybe there's a sudden flea infestation and you just haven't gotten swarmed yet. Maybe Cthulhu is just around the corner. Maybe everyone but you is mind controlled and trying to get away from crazy delusions of aliens landing and all singing Nyan cat in about fifteen different keys.

Or maybe it's all just a false alarm that's gotten out of control. But can you really afford to assume that?

Will you join in the flailing, try to snoop out the root cause, or be the one trying to get everyone else to just calm down already?

Rules
1. Your character will run into other characters in the midst of the panic.
2. Write the reason for panicking in the subject line, or label it as open for responders to make up. (Or leave everyone clueless, that works, too!)

[The only problem with science was that every once in a while, it had a capacity to go horribly wrong. Mordin blamed a certain idiot intern at the lab who didn't seem to understand that certain chemicals should never be kept together, or that knocking things over was generally a bad idea. Or that "bad idea" could sometimes translate into "it blew up and made all sorts of other things mix together that shouldn't." The fact that the boy was still alive was practically a miracle, though it did at least give Mordin the useful hint that whatever mix that had been wasn't poisonous to Salarians. That said, he could presently name at least three other species who weren't so lucky.

So now Mordin was running around trying to make sure as few people as possible ended up keeling over and probably dying as a result of this mess, including the people outside on the street.]

Chemical spill at nearby facility. Gas cloud produced. Deadly combinations. Poisonous. Here in a few seconds.

[He nodded in a direction away from the danger.]

Move.

[Yuri had awoken to some kind of commotion going on outside, and quickly found his way out of the inn and into a group of people frantically running from... nothing he could see. Maybe there were monsters over there and he just couldn't see any of them yet? He spent a confused moment looking in the direction they were coming from, then turned to the nearest person going by.]

What's going on here?

[How many times does the Planet need saving? Tifa wished that they took out a warranty on the bloody thing.]

I guess it's a bit too late to ask everyone to leave in an orderly fashion, isn't it?

[Luckily the monster is far away from Seventh Heaven - it was by chance Tifa was shopping in another sector altogether. Mentally counting which materia she had with her, she knew she had to take a stand against the giant monster.]

The others had better show up soon...!

[People are screaming. Running for their lives. There is a very large feline creature running back and forth, fangs snarling and tail whipping around to strike at any who dare get too close. Or simply don't run away fast enough.]

[And in the center of it all is none other than Klarion, laughing insanely. Is he the cause, or merely taking in the sights? Who knows for certain?]

I haven't had this much fun since the 1972 Citywide Blackout!

[Game-jumping into Hero's Duty was probably the worst mistake Ralph's ever made.

He wasn't expecting things to be at this level of chaos and to make things worse, a Cy-Bug had eaten his gun, so he was now weaponless in a battlefield.

The only thing he can do is run around and scream in terror.]

Oh, oh my...

[HOW exactly Fluttershy got here is a very long story, but for the moment, she's fluttering above the swarm of Cy-Bugs looking a bit concerned.]

There, there, it's okay...you can all calm down now. There you go...

[Amazingly enough, several of the Cy-Bugs are starting to slow down their swarming. It's creating a calm area on the battlefield.]

[Exhausted from all his running, Ralph had discovered the lull in the battle and had plopped himself down against a rock to recover.

Once he caught his breath, he looked around and discovered that it wasn't the Space Marines that were responsible, but a tiny flying horse.]

Uh...whatever you're doing, keep at it!

[Fluttershy is patting one of the Cy-Bugs on the head. It makes kind of a cooing noise and rolls over to have its belly scratched.]

Why, I'm just showing them a little kindness! It's no wonder they're tearing things apart with everypony shooting at them like this!

[And now she is obligingly scratching the Cy-Bug's belly.]

That's a good little Cy-Bug...

[Ralph's going to stare at Fluttershy and her new friends in a mix of awe and horror.]

...The point of the game is to shoot them, they're the bad guys. [Not that he was happy about that, mind you.]

Besides, they eat everything, including people. [He had seen several Space Marines devoured in one bite, a cute pony would be a delicious morsel to the Cy-Bugs.]

Oh, but just because they're bad guys doesn't mean you have to be mean to them!

[She's still rubbing that Cy-Bug's belly.]

And maybe they're just hungry! Have you tried feeding them anything? Maybe they wouldn't be so bad if someone took care of them.

[...Now Ralph feels awful, because if Fluttershy is right, he's been just as horrible to them as the Nicelanders have been to him, just because they're "bad".

He's going to stand there uncomfortably until she mentions feeding the Cy-Bugs.]

I haven't seen any food here for anyone. And I'm pretty sure people like you and me are food to them. I think they ate a whole towerful of scientists before the game began.

Oh, dear!

[The Cy-Bug rolls back over again now that it's had its belly rubbed, and it's still looking pretty docile.]

Maybe we just need to get them some food from somewhere else, then! They should have plenty over at Burger Time or Sugar Rush, shouldn't they?

[It is probably for the best that Calhoun doesn't seem to be anywhere in the area, really...]

[Ralph's so new to the game that nobody's told him that Cy-Bugs should not under any circumstances be let out of Hero's Duty so he thinks the idea doesn't sound too bad.

He shrugs.]

I guess it wouldn't hurt. Anything's gotta be better than fighting with them.

[And Fluttershy just doesn't know these things because the MLP game she probably came from is quite nonviolent.]

Exactly! Fighting never solves anything in the end. Don't worry, little guys, we'll find you something nice to eat so you don't have to get cranky and hurt anypony anymore!

[The Cy-Bugs seem to be hanging off her every word.]

[Ralph's still on edge, even though the Cy-Bugs are quite calm in the general area. There's still a lot flying around and attacking the Space Marines elsewhere. Would feeding them nice food really make them not scary?]

Is there gonna be enough food for all of them?

I'm sure we could find enough food for them somewhere! We'll just take this one little group first, and then we can come back for the rest!

[Ralph nods.] Okay, sounds like a good enough plan. I don't think we could herd all of them at once anyway.

Let's go, little Cy-Bugs! Let's go!

[And she'll start making little noises at them to get them to peacefully follow her towards the train station.]

[Ralph will pick up the rear and follow Fluttershy's pack of Cy-Bugs.

He did have to admit that this was far preferable to them attacking and attempting to eat him. Maybe the pony had a point after all.]

[Uh-oh, they're getting close to the train now...last chance not to do something ~~adorable~~ crazy!]

There you go, everypony on...no pushing, now. No shoving; there's room for everyone. That's it, there's a good Cy-Bug...

[She is loading them all on as gently as possible. The train's pretty full, but there should be room for her and Ralph to ride, too.]

[Ralph's nervous about sharing such close quarters with a hoard of Cy-Bugs, but they seem to be completely obedient to the pony, so as long as she's in charge, it should be fine.

Once they're on the train, Ralph squeezes his way onto it.

It was a very ~~good~~ bad thing that most of the Space Marines, including Calhoun, were in the Tower. The ones outside were too occupied with dealing with the Cy-Bugs chasing them to notice the parade that had went to the train station.]

[The train makes its way to Game Central Station with very little fuss, and Fluttershy trots out followed by the Cy-Bugs, which are all still behaving. Hopefully, no one will stop them or run away screaming at the sight of them all...]

[Ralph's going to take up the back of the pack again, he feels a little more comfortable behind the bugs than in front of them.

Most of Game Central Station has never seen a Cy-Bug before, nobody even knows if they're Good Guys or Bad Guys yet. So as long as they behave, things should be perfectly fine.]

Which game do you think would have the most food for the poor little dears? I haven't spent too much time out of mine...
