[ It was sort of a foggy transition, maybe from the disintegration of neurons and firing synapses or maybe because the reality stone is a metaphysical sort of device and the ability to perceive the shifting from one physical space to another quasi-physical space is more than human (or half-human or altered human) minds are able to comprehend. Bucky's not so sure; all he knows is one minute he's on the battlefield, separating apart like butterflies and ashes in the wind- the next, he's sitting in a booth staring across a table at a stranger.

The table is sticky, like poorly cleaned pancake syrup. There's a laminated (also sticky) menu between his elbows, a neatly rolled set of silverware to his right and an empty coffee cup to his left. The restaurant is lit by yellow-orange bulbs and a neon sign somewhere outside of the window behind the stranger.

It's the only light behind the stranger. Beyond the glass is supreme and utter darkness, completely unpenetrated by the sign or the lightbulbs, inky black and bottomless. His lips part, brow furrowing, struggling to comprehend both the transition, the new surroundings, the Uncanny Valley details of it all, the last few minutes of events, all of it at once, and it's just not really coming together upstairs.

What comes out of his mouth is largely subconscious, not really an intelligent string of syllables so much as a gutteral: ]

[There is a beating of white wings, and then a girl lands a little distance away on the trash. She casts a glance around, surveying the dumpster, and the way in which she nods clearly says there's sufficient food to be found here.

Once that is sorted, her wings are folded in quickly, flattening against her back, and the windbreaker that she was holding against her chest is pulled on, hiding the wings. And then a bag is pulled out of a pocket and she starts picking through the trash, sometimes digging down a bit if she thinks she spotted some promising packages.

The raven gets only a glance or two at first, but after a while she starts talking to him. Not that unusual on the surface; people who are out by themselves do have a tendency to talk to animals, after all.

That is the cover, anyway. He has the kind of brainwaves that she can read. Human brainwaves. She shouldn't be able to read a raven's thoughts. And that picks her interest.]
