[ she blinks wide eyes at the photo and if she tries, she could imagine peter as a young boy sitting across from her, pointing to the same picture and insisting on getting it -- much like the way he insists on the other guardians doing things his way instead of gamora's. it softens her expression, coaxes a more natural looking smile out of her. ]

You can get it now, can't you? It has been a long time since you last had them.

[ Peter can't help the quiet, rueful little laugh that escapes him. ]

I could, if I wanted, but I've got something else in mind.

[ He shuts the menu, leaving it closed atop the table. It's scratched to hell and has clearly seen some better days. Hell, for all Peter knows, it might be as old as he is. ]

Maybe we can come back later. Try a little of everything.

[ and... admittedly, after all the shit that's happened, it's a bit of a novelty, to be able to think about tomorrow, and all the days after that. ]

Assuming we don't get food poisoning from this go around, anyway. That'd totally turn me off of this place.

[sensing]

Our bodies are more durable, I think we will be okay.

[ was that meant to be reassuring to him or herself? (that's not even how food poisoning works.) possibly both. she's never gotten food poisoning before so it'll be an experience anyway. but she understands that too, the luxury of there being a tomorrow, of coming back here again to try something else. mantis likes that idea, just as she's always liked spending time with peter and the others.

the waitress comes by and they're given coffee after their orders are in. she doesn't drink it, but she does wrap her hands around the mug, letting the warmth seep into her fingers. ]

I'd like to come back later, if we can. Or go to another place like this one.

[ For his part, Peter takes a quick sip of his coffee, making a slightly sour face at how bitter it tastes. Usually he takes his coffee as black as the day is long, but he reaches for a cheap packet of sweetener in the little tray. ]

We've got the time.

[ God knows they could all use a vacation after all that. As much as everyone wants to get back to a sense of normalcy, there are a few victory parties that are being planned – some of them public affairs, where Peter's pretty sure the Guardians of the Galaxy will need to play nice with Earth's Mightiest Politicians, and some of them more private affairs, with a lot of their allies and a whole lot of booze.

And the Guardians rarely ever turn down a free drink. ]
