[ Toudou wasn't saying it (yet). It would be expected from him. He wasn't even thinking about it for the time being. He wanted to enjoy the time he had left with him. Being happy and enjoying the time he had left before not being able to see him again for a long time was what that night was for.

It took so much convincing to get Makishima to stay a night with him and not be concerned about anything else. The time was precious, and Toudou was trying to make the most of it. Even if this meant going out and doing things together (a not-date because Toudou didn't want to make it weird) and then retiring in his room at the end of it.

But now it was oddly quiet with them sitting there. Night had fallen and Toudou's already finished his ridiculous nightly beauty routine.]

John quickly wakes when he hears the three words that don't quite register to begin with. He rubs at his eyes and sits up, peering through the dark and towards his bedroom door.

"Sher-?" he mumbles, still half-asleep.

He reaches to turn on his bedside lamp. The clock reads two a.m. Ugh.

It's not been the first time Sherlock has roused John at an ungodly hour to drag him out onto a case or to enlighten him with a deduction that obviously couldn't wait until morning to be shared. And now Sherlock is standing in the threshold again.

Except he's not dressed. He's in his pyjamas and dressing gown, looking just as strung out and tired as John. It's been a pretty stressful week after everything that happened with Mary (or Ms. Moriarty, as it were). The scars are still healing, both physical and mental. John suspected Sherlock was more shaken by everything that had happened lately than he appeared to be.

"What d'you say?" he asks, looking at him with concern. "You okay?"
