Whatever the reason, you've found yourself with someone important: your partner, your family, your rival, your lover, the person of your dreams--and the words have fallen from your lips.

Where would you be if I didn't keep tabs on waking you up and making sure you remember not to eat ice cream for breakfast or something even worse?

[ He ha hoped there would be a time he didn't need to call, but it was fine like this. Standing out in the night air under the stars and just talking to Makishima with no phone between them is already more than he expected. ]

Why would I eat ice cream for breakfast..?

[he looks over at him, raising an eyebrow.]

[ Does he have to quote your food intake for the past week back at you? He can probably do it half way. ]

I could just eat ice cream for breakfast while I have you on the phone, you know.

[there will be half a world between us there will be nothing you can do.]

I know. You've done it before and I always know.

[ You can't hide from him, Makishima. It's impossible. He'll always find out what you're doing somehow. ]

[iridascent]

There's nothing you'll be able to do about it.

[he shrugs.]

[ Why don't you also just stab him in the heart while you're at it?! He's ever been abo to do anything about it in the past, but now he'll be even farther away. ]

I'll just nag at you until you see the error of your ways.

[ Or hang up, so he can cry silently to himself. Either or. ]

You'll have to stay on the phone all day for that...

My parents would kill me if I did that.

[ This is the tone of pain and despair, but not of someone who isn't fully prepared to seriously stay on a phone for ten hours to keep Makishima from doing something stupid and diet-murdering. ]

Besides, you don't need someone in your ear all day when you should be studying or working.

You'll be busy, too, you know.

[it's starting to sound like toudou doesn't think he'll have anything left to do once makishima is out of the country.]

[ Toudou is first and foremost dramatic. He knows that he'll have final exams and then his *~Mysterious after high school plans~*, and he's not looking down on any of those things. He's actually pretty excited to move to the next step.

None of that doesn't mean that he won't miss his rival. Makishima's absence will be felt every time he races. ]

The next time we meet, I'll be so far, you wont be able to catch me anymore.

[iridascent]

[that gets a smirk out of him.]

As if. I'll be waiting for you at the finish.

We'll just have to see. I won our high school rivalry. Maybe you'll have a chance when it comes to our Adult rivalry.

[ They won't have a college rivalry. Makishima was leaving and Toudou had no plans for college. ]

We'll have more time and more chances in the next stage.

[there's comfort in that. makishima leans heavily against the railing of the balcony, and directs his gaze back up to the sky.]

... It'll be a few months before I visit home.

I'll make time for you if you tell me when it is closer to that time.

You know we all graduate here in March. You should be in classes by then, so summer sounds like the best time. It would have to be around Interhigh, although. I'll be busy watching over Manami during the race.

[ Manami was stuck with Toudou for the rest of his natural life, unfortunately. Makishima could sympathize with that. ]

... I'm sure he's grateful.

[his tone goes completely dry.]

Wahahaha! It will be a race between him and Megane-chan to earn my title as King of Mountain. It's only right that I watch over it to make sure the winner is worthy of it.

[ You both should be grateful there is such a loud busybody who cares about you weirdo's so much. ]

Megane-chan is pretty impressive, but there's no way Manami will lose.

[ Now they sound like pageant mothers. This is kind of ridiculous. ]

Onoda is some kind of miracle child. And he's usually on time.

Are you picking on his tardiness? If it has to do with climbing, Manami is alway present.

[ He just doesn't care about literally everything else, and there's no defending that. Toudou doesn't really care since that means he rides freely, and that's all he can ask of the child. ]

I'm just saying, I didn't see your precious first-year go from dead last to the head of the pack in his first competition.

He didn't need to. He fails markedly less than Megane-chan.

It will be settled at Interhigh.

[ Looking towards a future and finding what they can do together in some way made him feel a bit better, at least. ]

I couldn't let the rival I've come to love so much leave without seeing him one last time. You'd probably try to leave on your own without anyone at the airport to make you get emotional. So we can get it all out now instead.

[ He kept up the tone, even smiling up at the stars as he spoke. This time he was spending with him now was all he got for a long time, and it was so different from how they usually connected. ]
