The main conceit of shipping memes, it seems, is that both characters exist in the same universe. But what about something that tosses that out the window for a minute, and lets you play with the implications of "crossover?" Here, you can play with someone from a different canon (or AU or radically different canonpoint) and enjoy shipping that's truly out of this world.

It can be hard enough being ejected from your own home - imagine being plucked away from your home world! This could be because of your own doing (say, you were banished for being too cocky), you were too evil or too ambitious to stay, or even due to an accident. Those temporal shifts can be a little much. Whether by design or by chaos, however, you end up in the same place...or, rather, a different place. Theoretically, this world could be very much like your own, with only a few minor changes, like a purple sky instead of a blue one or lion-demons instead of tiger-vampires. On the other hand, it could be completely different, anywhere from more technologically advanced or less so or even filled to the brim with bizarre creatures. They still use cars? What are those infernal beeping devices? Why does no one have feathers or gills? Needless to say, this could be overwhelming if you are possibly powerless and definitely alone.

But you're not alone. Someone, a native of this world, has ended up tangled into this whole affair with you, whether they want it or not. You can't turn that down. They're your only ally, your only anchor in this brand new world. Maybe, just maybe, they can show you a thing or two to help you back up on your feet. Or, best case scenario, back to your home! When you're out of the frying pan and into the fire, though, nothing is cut and dry. Everything about this world may not be so horrible - it may be fun, even - and this person you've ended up with, oh, they could be worse. In fact, you may be beginning to feel at home with them.

Remember. This is not your real home. You want to go back, don't you?

And what about the other party? Of course, you may be less than thrilled that you now are playing tour guide to what seems like a crazy person. Perhaps this was out of the kindness of your heart or you may be forced to play babysitter, but it all leads to you keeping an eye out on them. They have to be lying about all this! Sure, they may talk strange, unconsciously insult you, and act like the simplest things confuse them; that has to be an act!

...still, act or not, you're starting to see that there's more to them than their goofy ways and there's more to your feelings toward them than you thought.

how to play
  • This meme is inspired heavily by the first Thor movie and also a great deal by those romantic comedies where someone from the past goes into the future or vice versa.
  • Comment with your character and preferences. Don't leave your comment blank! Mention something about your character's world in the comment for the canon blind (ie, "ancient Greece" or "dystopia with kids killing kids - the Japanese version"). It doesn't have to be long, it can even be a few words! If you have any other ideas, include them.
  • Reply to others. Use the RNG - or not. Whichever you prefer.

  1. arrival → You've just arrived...and someone has seen it. What's your impression? Good? Bad? Get the hell away from them? It may depend on why you're here in the first place.

  4. different world → They breathe oxygen? Where is their night vision?

  6. disbelief → So, they says they're an ancient Roman or a magic sky god. Did they hit their head?
  7. argument → No, no, no. You're not going anywhere until we get you some clothes and some help.
  8. forced to take them in → You have no other choice but to take this person in. You were either charged with the task or feel guilty.
  9. offer of shelter → You actually want to take them in out of the kindness of your heart.
  10. depowered → Were you a powerhouse before? Well, now you're an average joe. That'll teach you.
  11. misunderstanding → Here, we don't walk around in loin cloths, draw swords, or barely bathe or eat toothpaste. We also don't ride dogs, either.
  12. friendly fun → Being around here isn't always bad. You get to see new sights, taste new foods, and make new friends. Your milage may vary on the last one.
  13. introduced traditions → Time for the newcomer to show their host something from the old country, so to speak, or the reverse.
  14. romantic moment → Dancing or sitting under the stars or your own preference. Go wild and be creative!
  15. showing you care → They have helped you out a lot since you've arrived. Perhaps you can return the favor by lending a hand or solving a problem?
  16. the romantic shift → The typical turn of events where the two of you begin to see each other in a different light.
  17. not my type → Your usual type is more glamorous or more...possessing of gills, but the bond between you two endears them to you.
  18. jealousy → The newcomer misunderstands the dynamic that's already set in place.
  19. someone back home → You find yourself growing closer to your new friend, but you're already taken back home.
  20. confession → You both admit it's more than mere interdimensional alliances.
  21. smut → You've reached that point in the relationship, or you're about to leave, or you're just curious about the people in this world (remember that scene in Howard the Duck where - nevermind, actually).
  22. epic fight → Two worlds collide and big bads from the past are coming to threaten your temporary home and new love.
  23. reformed → You've learned your lesson and turned over a new leaf. As much as you can, anyway. You're more open, less cocky, whatever the case may be.
  24. sacrifice → Unfortunately, you won't get to go home. You selflessly put yourself in harm's way for your lover.
  25. going home → Time for a heartfelt goodbye. Will you see each other again or is this it?
  26. new home → You've learned and gained so much, you've decided to stay in this word.

Before this, you had nowhere to go. Nowhere but your own aching body, most likely injured, or your tussled thoughts. You may not even know where to go, your identity stripped from you in whatever hurricane of an action that lead you to be so down and out. But then, someone came along and offered you somewhere to stay. You can't turn that down, no matter how loathe you may be to deal with anyone or owe anyone something.

Or that's how it all begins. As you two stay close together and they nurse you back to full strength - despite your potential complaints - things between you change. You grow closer and more used to each other; then, slowly, what used to be thankfulness and generosity turns into love...or something like it. Affection. Deep adoration.

And somewhere along the line, that itself turns physical.

You're thanking them. You're trying to show them how much you care. You want them to love you more than anyone, because they gave you a chance and a home. You need to seal the deal and do more than just "play house" with them. No matter the case, they've opened their bed to you now, as well. This could be the first time, the last time, or the millionth time, but you'll gladly take their offer.

It's morning in EST. But maybe not for you -- A little too late to be sleeping but y'know what? That's okay. People nap. Sometimes the bed is oh so cozy and you want to snuggle under a blanket and sleep forever. And you don't care if it's your bed or not. You're going to sleep. Like a boss.

  • The premise of the meme is simple. Two characters, lovers, have been separated for a time. How long is up to you, as is the reason for the separation. Was it unwilling - an imprisonment, a required journey - or because of a choice one of the characters made? The reason may, of course, color the reunion, and somebody may be pretty miffed, with good reason. Still, the theme is the same: intimacy after being apart.
  • This meme is mostly geared towards being a smut meme, but nobody will judge you for just doing so heavy fluff.

Everyone has a favorite kink or scene or prompt they love to play out - and even if you don't, there has to be something you've always wanted to try, right? A kink? A premise? A prompt? While memes these days are doing great at covering fetishes and coming up with great premises, you can't expect them to cover everything anyone could ever want. There are just too many unique ideas out there!

This meme tries to solve that problem by being a catch-all and hinging on a very simple premise: bring what YOU want to play and focus on that! It puts the power of choosing the direction of threads entirely in your hands. Find other people who will be totally down with playing what you want to play, and let them know just what you're interested in. Simple, right? It's just like a BYOB barbecue, only a lot sexier.

The further you are from that magical age, the more adulthood seems like a far-off, idyllic fantasy land. When you're an adult, no one can tell you what to do. You're on your own, you can do whatever you like, and there's absolutely nothing to answer for. At least, that's how it seems. But the grass is always greener on the other side, isn't it? As an adult, your eyes are opened. You're on your own, yes, but you cannot do whatever you'd like and there's everything to answer for. And you're alone in this world.

But perhaps you're not there yet. Perhaps you're caught up somewhere between adult and child. The existential crisis of age is beginning to dawn upon you, yet there's something in you that is still enchanted by adulthood. So it's natural that, as your sexual interests grow, you'll be interested in someone that can give you what your young peers cannot. As you've gotten older and wiser, you've learned you don't have all the answers, though you'll never admit that. Isn't it better to learn from the best and those more experienced? Yet there's still some brattiness left in you, and what could be better to stick it to authority than by being in control of somebody older than you, who should be in charge of you? You have them wrapped around your finger and that's intoxicating. Of course, letting someone else be in charge is all right; it may have to be, unless you want them to punish you.

What if you're not the younger one in this equation, though? You're the adult. How do you view your relationship with your youthful lover? It has to be just romantic...there's nothing parental about it, right? If there is or isn't, do you feel guilt? Perverse glee?

Don't become too worked up yet. This could all be a game, a kink between two of age lovers. Though society wouldn't look all too kindly on that, either...

Can you ever get a moment of peace?

You're never able to relax around people; instead, you're constantly on edge, with the very presence of others feeling somewhere between grating and unsettling. Or, at least, that's how it used to feel, like you were about to fall off that edge at any moment. But not any more. You've found the one person you enjoy spending time with and can be comfortable around. What are they to you? A lot. More than you can say. Still, you don't see the need for labels. Both of you are just enjoying being here together. It's that easy. It's that comfortable. They're one steady point in this crazy world, and you never have to put on airs around them.

Whether you need someone to comfort you, decompress or share hobbies with or simply offer a shoulder to lean on in silence, relax. They've got you covered, and, for once, you don't have to keep your walls up. Take the edge off.
