THE CRIMINAL AU MEME

Warning: This meme will contain violent content and possible triggers.



HOW TO PLAY:
1) Post a comment below, detailing your character and canon. For best results, DO NOT LEAVE THIS COMMENT BLANK; pick a role, or an AU, or write up a little on what you'd like to explore with your character.
2) Tag around and make magic happen.

THE ROLE.
1) Criminal. (The one who committed the act.)
2) Law enforcement. (Cop, FBI, prison guard.)
3) Witness. (What did you see?)
4) Victim. (Probably not applicable in the case of murder. … Probably.)
5) Lawyer, judge, or paralegal. (Participant in the legal system.)
6) Private security. (Unaffiliated, but with an interest in keeping your client safe. Or in getting your target caught.)
7) Other. (Let your imagination go wild.)

THE CRIME.
1) ROBBERY. The crime of stealing via force or threat or fear.
You need the money. You're desperate. You have the gun, the convenience store is right there, and everything will be better once you've finished the job.

Or maybe you've been hired. Provide a little intimidation, and someone else will take care of all your problems.

Or it's a thrill. Rolling across the country, robbing banks as you go. A Bonnie & Clyde crime spree, and it can only end one way.

2) BURGLARY. Illegal entry into a building for the purposes of committing theft.
Non-violence, for you; you're just going to break in, take this one thing. Maybe a television, to sell for the cash. Maybe some jewelry, a computer.

Or maybe you're a master thief, dangling from a wire into a museum. Sliding through the air ducts of a skyscraper in search of a particular little item.

3) GRAND THEFT AUTO. The criminal act of stealing a motor vehicle.
You know your cars. And you can steal one in under 60 seconds. Better hope you don't get tripped up with one of those newfangled security systems.

4) MURDER. The act of killing another.
He had to die. He had to, and the guilt of knowing where you buried the body, of knowing that the police are coming after you -- it's starting to wear down your sanity.

5) SERIAL MURDER. A crime involving the killing of three or more people over a period of more than a month.
You have a drive to kill. Again, and again. Nothing satisfies it, nothing stops it. Maybe you hate yourself. Maybe you hate the human scum who only exist to go under your knife.

Or maybe you're a professional hit man. You've killed dozens, you know how it goes. It's just business.

6) CONSPIRACY. An agreement between two or more persons to break the law at some time in the future.
Mafia, Yakuza, crime families who keep their operations quiet under pain of death, dishonor, betrayal of the family. You're part of one of these operations, whether as a patriarch or a peon.

7) FRAUD. Intentional deception made for personal gain.
Blackmail. Cover-ups. Insider trading -- the marks of corporate crime. Perhaps you're a CEO who thinks they can do whatever they want. Perhaps your business is on the rocks and you just need a little time to make your golden parachute before you ditch it.

Or maybe you meant to destroy it. Maybe you're a professional con man, and you're stepping away from your latest conquest with plenty of cash in hand.

8) KIDNAPPING. The false imprisonment of another person against their will.
Do you do it for the ransom? For the money? For revenge?

Or is it a hostage situation, with dozens of prisoners, for some sort of political gain?

9) TERRORISM. The systematic use of terror, especially as a means of coercion.
For a religion, for a philosophy. But -- are you a terrorist, or are you a freedom fighter? It might just be a matter of point of view.

10) WILD CARD. For any crime not mentioned above.

Viktoria | Thief - The Dark Project | OTA

Set in the mysterious, quasi-medieval steampunk citystate known only as the City, Viktoria operates in the city's seedy underbelly as a fence - taking in stolen items and merchandise to resell for profit. Often as not, fences in the City rip off thieves worse than the original victims though Viktoria seems to play reasonably fair. That being said, she is small time in comparison to the criminal organizations that plague the City with the Baron out of the picture (his attentions focused upon a war with a neighboring citystate, Blackbrook).

Though not nearly renowned as the City Wardens - the chief perpetrators of organized crime (enough so that the City itself is divided into sections (Wards) belonging to each "Warden") - she is reliable for payment and will occasionally seek out exceptionally talented thieves to offer up lucrative marks. With regard to the Wardens, Viktoria operates out of Raputo's Ward - encompassing the North Quarter, Shalebridge, Newmarket and New Quarter.

Outside of her business of turning hot items, she is linked to the Pagan cult (a loosely organized group of people that eschew technology and order in favor of worshipping a chaotic nature deity, a direct affront to the Hammerites that seek control over the inhabitants of the City), though her actual relationship with them is uncertain and any relevant information on her person remains elusive. She is also backed by a mysterious benefactor with exceedingly deep pockets and has more eyes in the city than perhaps anyone else.

Thieves looking for work or seeking to move stolen goods need only enter one of the buildings denoted by a red hand print upon the wall to engage in Viktoria's services. Just don't bring the Blues with you. ]

[ So they run away together. (Not quite run, more like saunter out the door and down the drive, but the sentiment's more or less the same.) India considers killing him more than once — a consideration she's fairly certain isn't mutual — but in the end she doesn't act on it. (She doesn't let him kill her mother either, a decision which nearly results in their first fight, but India is smart and adaptable and knows how to smile when she's so inclined. By now, she's figured out the main swell of her Uncle Charlie's crescendo — it isn't hard — and she has no qualms with playing it keenly, so long as it gets her what she wants.

They leave mother in the bedroom, bruise purpling her neck like an ugly necklace. India takes one of her blouses and steals the belt from her uncle's waist and tells him: this is mine. And that's that.)

Charlie's the one that stabs the sheriff though it's India who gets out of the car and follows him idly across the road. The sun is so warm she can hear the heat shimmer, like eggs frying on the stove. Somewhere behind her, Charlie exhales; he's closer than she thought. The flowers dance in the sight of her rifle.

A moment later, the crack of her rifle peels through the air. It seems to fill the world with sound, flushing the birds out of the nearby brush. (India manages to snipe one from the sky but the dull thud it makes when it falls back to earth isn't half as satisfying as the sheriff sprawled out in the tall grass.) She turns back to her uncle.

[I'd prefer to play Kariya in the criminal role. Most likely he's either an independent scam artist or, if you want to criminal-AU the whole of the orphanage he comes from in canon, part of a surprisingly adept ring of (possibly super-powered) child criminals. 1, 2, and 7 would probably be the most naturally workable crimes for him, but anything other than 5 could probably be stretched to fit.

I'm happy to play him off pretty much any other role.]

(OOC: Canon criminal get? Simon's crimes are never officially listed, but the charges are definitely on a 'federal' level and probably classified to most law enforcement. All that's really known is that he's considered dangerous and to be taken into custody alive...along with his adult sister.

On a non-federal level, he has been known to have a small hand in relatively pettier crimes such as theft, smuggling, etc. in order to 'finance his run from the law'.)

[ there's an unwritten rule when you dabble in this sort of business -- that if you want something done right, then you oversee every step of the process, no matter how dirty your hands might get in the end.

and perhaps they both have other people to do this for them. or at least one of them does. but the times are changing for the worse, you see, and sometimes it's good to make allies although the simple fact of the matter is that you can never trust anyone anyway.

but sometimes a bigger power comes along and forces their hands, makes them play nice; they have their own family members to take care of, after all. they're both aware this is the smartest option left to them... or at least he is -- because reishi's beginning to believe, after the galling couple of days spent making the other man's acquaintance, that suoh mikoto is simply a curious case.

suoh drove the car (who, exactly, taught you how to drive, might i ask? he might've commented idly from the passenger seat, when the vehicle screeched and swerved and the cigarette jostled out from between his fingers and nearly burned him), but he's the one who thinks to set it on fire several kilometers away from the base. far enough to make a trek, but close enough for them to smell the smoke.

it's how they get in through the back, how they're able to duck down into a now dark, and empty room inside without alerting the rest of the base. or a majority of it anyway. their first casualty is lying, half-alive and choking on his own blood on the floor. reishi simply crooks a brow, smiling a half-smile as he fishes for the handkerchief kept in his suit's breast pocket. ]

How frighteningly quick.

[ a moment later, he crouches, careful to avoid the dark pool steadily spanning out from underneath their victim's head. there's no hesitation, of course, it's mercy when he pinches the young man's nostrils shut through the cloth, when he speaks casually without once taking his eyes off of suoh. ]

6 - Slight AU

Nyota Uhura did not have to go after him. It certainly wasn't her job. In fact, her commander would probably go ballistic if he knew where she was at, right now. But she was only too human at times, and she couldn't detach herself from her emotions. It was a double-edged sword, a weakness, as well as strength. She didn't even know if she was capable of reaching the man any longer, not the man who was so dedicated, and whose mind was so totally focused on his one mission. Nothing else mattered to him, not after the crimes he blamed the Federation for committing. There were very few who would be able to put themselves in his shoes after what he had done, even those commanders and agents who had known him before all of this.

But Uhura thought they had been friends once, a very long time ago, when she'd been a young, bright, excited girl, so new to Starfleet and all the wonders it had to offer. That was before life had separated them, taking them in different directions, he becoming one of the top agents, who would go on to undergo those experiments. He was intelligent, and more powerful than her, this she knew, but she hoped for some remembrance of times long past. It was for these reasons that she approached him with her gun not drawn. She was not so naive to not have her weapon on her, however, secured at her waist, for now, anyway.
