The Criminal AU Meme
Warning: This meme will contain violent content and possible triggers.

HOW TO PLAY:
1) Post a comment below, detailing your character and canon. For best results, DO NOT LEAVE THIS COMMENT BLANK; pick a role, or an AU, or write up a little on what you'd like to explore with your character.
2) Tag around and make magic happen.
3) If you get stuck, use RNG to select from the options below.
THE ROLE.
1) Criminal. (The one who committed the act.)
2) Law enforcement. (Cop, FBI, prison guard.)
3) Witness. (What did you see?)
4) Victim. (Probably not applicable in the case of murder. … Probably.)
5) Lawyer, judge, or paralegal. (Participant in the legal system.)
6) Private security. (Unaffiliated, but with an interest in keeping your client safe. Or in getting your target caught.)
7) Other. (Let your imagination go wild.)
THE CRIME.
1) ROBBERY. The crime of stealing via force or threat or fear.
You need the money. You're desperate. You have the gun, the convenience store is right there, and everything will be better once you've finished the job.
Or maybe you've been hired. Provide a little intimidation, and someone else will take care of all your problems.
Or it's a thrill. Rolling across the country, robbing banks as you go. A Bonnie & Clyde crime spree, and it can only end one way.
2) BURGLARY. Illegal entry into a building for the purposes of committing theft.
Non-violence, for you; you're just going to break in, take this one thing. Maybe a television, to sell for the cash. Maybe some jewelry, a computer.
Or maybe you're a master thief, dangling from a wire into a museum. Sliding through the air ducts of a skyscraper in search of a particular little item.
3) GRAND THEFT AUTO. The criminal act of stealing a motor vehicle.
You know your cars. And you can steal one in under 60 seconds. Better hope you don't get tripped up with one of those newfangled security systems.
4) MURDER. The act of killing another.
He had to die. He had to, and the guilt of knowing where you buried the body, of knowing that the police are coming after you -- it's starting to wear down your sanity.
5) SERIAL MURDER. A crime involving the killing of three or more people over a period of more than a month.
You have a drive to kill. Again, and again. Nothing satisfies it, nothing stops it. Maybe you hate yourself. Maybe you hate the human scum who only exist to go under your knife.
Or maybe you're a professional hit man. You've killed dozens, you know how it goes. It's just business.
6) CONSPIRACY. An agreement between two or more persons to break the law at some time in the future.
Mafia, Yakuza, crime families who keep their operations quiet under pain of death, dishonor, betrayal of the family. You're part of one of these operations, whether as a patriarch or a peon.
7) FRAUD. Intentional deception made for personal gain.
Blackmail. Cover-ups. Insider trading -- the marks of corporate crime. Perhaps you're a CEO who thinks they can do whatever they want. Perhaps your business is on the rocks and you just need a little time to make your golden parachute before you ditch it.
Or maybe you meant to destroy it. Maybe you're a professional con man, and you're stepping away from your latest conquest with plenty of cash in hand.
8) KIDNAPPING. The false imprisonment of another person against their will.
Do you do it for the ransom? For the money? For revenge?
Or is it a hostage situation, with dozens of prisoners, for some sort of political gain?
9) TERRORISM. The systematic use of terror, especially as a means of coercion.
For a religion, for a philosophy. But -- are you a terrorist, or are you a freedom fighter? It might just be a matter of point of view.
10) WILD CARD. For any crime not mentioned above.

It has been a very long time, and it's obvious how much he has changed.
Raising her hands defensively, to show she is unarmed, she raises her brow. "To talk, John," she returns, also using his first name. It makes the air seem almost deceptively comfortable, but they are not too old friends coming together to catch up on old times. She knows this.
"No one knows I'm here," she says, in an even, fairly neutral tone.
no subject
He knows that she won't, but he wants to hear her answer. Though he's sworn off earth, he's still susceptible to some of his normal suspicions. She may be younger, but she is skilled, as he is. If the experiment had not been scrapped, she would have likely been asked to be a candidate.
"You're not just here to talk."
Is she actually hear to understand? he wants to laugh in derision. It was never that simple.
no subject
She is skilled, but she doesn't know now if she would have volunteered for the experiments then. Her linguistic skills have served her Starfleet position well. She is not overly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, something she could have had much more of. As it is, she is no match for him, but she's not come to fight.
"Talking is a good start," she replied. Yes, she wanted to understand, but no, that wasn't all of it. Maybe with understanding, with talking like civilized humans, she can figure out some common ground, a way for no more lives to be lost.
no subject
It's true he wouldn't allow her in here if he thought she would, a brief scan reveals she's honest.
Though he's not sure if he's going to let her out again unless he is sure she is on his side.
"Have a seat."
On the wall, are screens - several of them.
One scrolls through data, the other contains documented evidence from Starfleet, treaties for the Klingons. Documents for the Genesis project, documents for the augments.
Security for several Starfleet buildings on Earth. Security for his own. His pod is in a nearby hanger along with a transport pad.
"Shall we begin, then - or shall I just answer your questions?"
no subject
The screens catch Uhura's eye, and she recognizes foreign languages - Klingon. She narrows her eyes slightly, but looks back to John when he speaks again.
"Perhaps you could first explain how Starfleet has wronged you," she countered quietly. "It was the augment program, wasn't it?" Yes, she knew, she remembered.

Federation High Command
Order no. 23415931 Level 9 Security Clearance Priority Two
The project known as BOTANY BAY is hereby declared null and void. The experiment has yielded previously undermined consequences.
SUBJECT ONE did not survive stasis.
SUBJECT TWO displayed signs of violence towards fellows, and was forcibly terminated.
SUBJECT THREE developed a disorder which caused the cranial lobe to disintegrate within a matter of one year after removal from stasis.
It is hereby ordered:
SUBJECT FOUR located within Section 50
SUBJECT FIVE located within Section 31
SUBJECT SIX also located within Section 31
All have displayed signs of aggression and resistance to authority.
All other Subjects currently in stasis within the project BOTANY BAY, hereafter referred to as "augments" are declared enemies of Starfleet, the Federation and it's allies, and are to be terminated on site. Attempts to resist will be met with fierce opposition by the United Federation of Planets.
So signed,
STARFLEET HIGH COMMAND
ADMIRAL MARCUS, et al.
"Your commanders have committed a crime I cannot forgive," he states, with quiet resonance when he senses her finishing the document.
The Klingon document reveals an agreement to follow such orders.
no subject
"Have you tried talking to them?" she asks, raising her brow. "If not you, John, someone on your behalf - a group, allies. If they won't listen to you, an ally, maybe."
"This won't end well."
no subject
Uhura herself probably doesn't know completely. "The Federation has much to gain from waging a war with the Klingons, more firepower, more advanced weaponry, despite their hypocritical policy to "never interfere". I'm with Section 31, Nyota, and I can assure you, we always interfere. It's part of the work. As for talking with Starfleet, you see the order. Talking to them gets us killed. The rest of the augments are no longer located within the ship. Still frozen in a secure location. I can't tell you for obvious reasons, but do you really think," he smiles - mirthlessly, "Starfleet will bother to listen to an augment they've already declared as a threat? You know they won't, I'd be petitioning something that is not worth the time to print. It's better to take some of them down first, and at least try to possibly prevent them from wiping out the Klingons while they are at it. A corporation that controls the entire universe. It's not non-inference at all."
