If I'd told Takao to go take one and bring it to me, it wouldn't have been an issue.

[ He shouldn't have left the house without a lucky item and this wouldn't have happened, obviously. He's well aware this doesn't happen to other people, but his personal luck seems to have become intricately entwined with Oha Asa to the point even some other people start to believe it specifically affects him, after all. Even so, he chose not to because he didn't want to keep Akashi waiting and thought it wouldn't be bad to spend some time at the festival with him. Besides, he kind of wanted one of he and Akashi, and he didn't want to risk Takao wanting to tag along with the two of them. He could spend time with Takao any time he wanted, he wanted time alone with Akashi today.

The one he now has of he and Akashi with Akashi jamming his glasses into his forehead somehow seems like what he deserves for this blunder. He's not even going to ask if Akashi wants a copy of it, but it'll get the job done as a lucky item and the opportunity to fix it is going now. ]

Yes, we should be able to proceed normally with the day now.

[ Not that Akashi dislikes Takao, but he's here in Tokyo to visit Midorima. Akashi is selfless majority of the time, but he wouldn't be able to spend quality time with Midorima had Takao come along. It was a good move on Midorima's part that he didn't invite Takao to tag along.

A few more sips later, and Akashi is finished with his tea. He sets the cup down and fiddles with his scarf to fix it before looking at Midorima, as if waiting for a signal. ]

Midorima, do you want to go to Kyoto some time? It's made me realise that I should show you around there, as well.

[ He seems to be savoring the tea for a little longer than Akashi, though he finishes it when he realizes that Akashi is done. Best not to keep him waiting. ]

I wouldn't mind being shown around.

[ They're a little warmer now, so they can get going. He doesn't quite want to leave the warmth of the tea stand, but they need to get moving. He starts heading the way to get them to the museum. ]

Great. Then all you need to do is tell me when. I'll be sure to have the perfect itinerary for you.

[ And if Midorima wants to sleep over, Akashi can arrange for it, too. ]

[ The bar is already pretty low as long as Akashi doesn't nearly turn them into popsicles really, but he expects it'll somehow be beyond anything he can expect, especially in comparison to his loose plans made to accommodate any changes Akashi might have wanted to make. ]

If we're planning in advance, perhaps we should make a weekend of it.

[ Kyoto is far, it'd be easier to not have to worry about getting back and forth right away. Plus, honestly, it would be nice to see Akashi for more than just a day and then they have to go back to their separate areas again for however many weeks. ]

I wouldn't mind. [ He lights up at the idea. That means he can go home, too, even just for a weekend, seeing as he's usually at the Rakuzan dorms. ] Perhaps during one of the upcoming holidays would be better.

[ Akashi, what happened to letting Midorima say when... oh well. It was just a suggestion anyway. ]

[ As if he could say no to a holiday when Akashi looks that excited about it? ]

That would work for me. Holidays are easier to schedule around.

They are. The trains should have less people, so travelling will be easier for you.

[ As for them once they're in Kyoto, Akashi can always use the car if Midorima doesn't want to walk around. ]

[ Midorima will always let someone else drive him around given the opportunity. ]

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

[ If Akashi doesn't voice that they can stay at his place, he's not going to assume. He doesn't know if he's at the dorms or what is going on. ]

I won't have you spending much while in Kyoto. [ His invitation, therefore, Midorima falls under his responsibility. Not like he doesn't feel any less responsible for Midorima now, though. ]

You'll stay at my home. It won't be an issue.

[ Which means Akashi has to let him pay for lunch and museum tickets and so on. ]

[ Akashi does want to argue because he didn't mean to make Midorima spend for the rest of the day, but he doesn't. It's only fair!!

Plus, he guesses Midorima will force himself to pay for everything today anyway. ]

Mm, thank you. I'll try not to be too much of a burden.

[ He can throw 50000 yen at a lucky item, he can survive paying for Akashi for one day. Let him. ]

I think being burdensome might be one task you'd have difficulty accomplishing, Akashi.

[ He knows him too well to think he could ever accidentally or intentionally put Midorima out. Midorim can sometimes be doting when it comes to Akashi and often does things he needs or for his sake without being asked first, it's one of many reasons why he made a good Vice Captain. It's usually a Cancerean behavior reserved for romantic partners, but he'll just put that aside in a mental box where no one better point it out to him ever because he is already aware, even if he's sure it'd be better if he wasn't. Midorima is glad that he's letting him have this one without argument. ]

The museum isn't too far.

[ Midorima might think otherwise, but Akashi cares too much about how others think of him that he believes that he can be a burden to some.

He might have no reason to lose friends anymore, but insecurities don't go away so quickly. He wouldn't even have told people to lower their heads or that he's absolute if he never cared about how others view him. Back then, people should view him as absolute.

In the back of his mind where his other self resides, he thinks that what Midorima said is not true. The thought permeates his consciousness but Akashi decides not to say anything about it. ]

Ever? [ He laughs a little. ] I'd like to believe we've all become a burden for each other at least once in our lives.

[ Midorima stays quiet for a moment, mulling over Akashi's words over before coming to a conclusion: their disagreement lies in semantics and the point of view Midorima holds of Akashi that Akashi apparently doesn't recognize. ]

You've relied on me before, but it was never a responsibility I considered troublesome or hard to bear.

[ Anything he would consider a burden regarding Akashi was his own sense of responsibility and a want to get his friend back- not something he would consider Akashi the burden itself over. ]

Well, thank you for saying so.

[ It's... validation, in a way, and it makes his heart swell just a tad to know that he doesn't have to be that conscious when it comes to certain things. ]

I'll continue to rely on you, too.

Shall I take it you've considered me a burden then?

[ He's actually not mad about that, and it's likely Akashi can read his tone to tell it's more a curiosity than anything. People have 0 problem telling him he's a pain to deal with. He likes to think he's less of one to Akashi than others, or at least he tries to be. ]

[ Akashi pauses to try and remember their times at Teikou. Midorima's always been the most disciplined one amongst the members, so he's never really become a burden.

He remembers something, though. ]

I recall receiving a complaint about a small statue of a giraffe. One of the members tripped and stubbed their toe, although I never really brought this up with you.

So no, not necessarily. Although I wasn't quite sure how to explain it to an upperclassman.

[ That's easy enough to explain. He's definitely okay with that being the worst burden he's ever been if that's true, though. ]

It wasn't a live animal, the upperclassman should be grateful.

[ >implying he has brought a live animal before, though even he recognizes that time was a bit of a problem even if the frog was surprisingly well behaved and stayed on the bench... ]

[ It looks like the museum is very near as Akashi can see people outside congregating near a building. Plus, he can hear some music!

He puts some rush in his step. ]

I hope we can still catch a performance.

[ Midorima falls behind a little as Akashi speeds up, but does pick it up a little- mostly to keep up with the other boy, rather than because of the museum. Not that he's not excited, he is, but he's not the type to get visibly worked up about things. Seeing Akashi so excited though, that's enough to make the cold of the ferris wheel feel like a distant memory. ]

It sounds like we'll make it.

[ If the music in the air is any indication, at least. He did say they were likely going to miss the geza demonstration, but that didn't mean there weren't other performances afterward. ]

[ Akashi isn't usually this cheerful, but it's a good occasion to have more pep than usual. He's hanging out with a friend he treasures a lot (despite what his other self may have said and done) and there's music involved! It's a good reminder of his mother when even though he was forced to learn music, it was something that his mother appreciated. ]

I'm glad. Although I hope the line moves quickly enough. I'd rather not miss anymore if I have to. We also have to go to the arcade before it closes.

The game center is open through midnight, we don't need to worry about missing that. How late are you planning on staying?

[ They could stay until museum close if Akashi wanted and still have time to get to the arcade. It really depends on when Akashi has to leave and how long he wants to stay. ]

[ At the question, Akashi checks his watch for the time. There's still a lot of time, but he had hoped to not be limited up to a certain time of day today, but he is. ]

I actually have to be back by 7, as much as I'd like to stay longer.

[ If he has to be back by 7, then they can probably take a good three hours in the museum. ]

Three hours here, an hour for a late lunch, and an hour for the arcade.

[ That should give him three hours to get home with a little time to spare. Midorima is going to set an alert on his phone in case they lose track of time. He goes up to purchase entry to the museum and get their pamphlets. ]
