THE AUTUMN MEME

It's that time of year again; Autumn.
Whether it's raking the leaves or running to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte,

the season is back upon us and it's time to enjoy it before winter comes.
 

Scenarios: 
Look at all the pretty colors - Maybe you just feel like strolling down the street and looking at all the leaves turning colors. Maybe you're shopping for something to fit in with the autumn theme. Or you could be setting up an easel to try to capture how the trees look like they're on fire. Just enjoy the turning shades.

I didn't agree to be in this movie -Yes, it's that time again, fog time. It can be creepy or beautiful or both and guess what? You're trapped in it. Are you alone? Are you at home looking out the windows, or stuck somewhere waiting for it to clear so you can drive? Maybe you're walking home late at night and the fog is as creepy as hell and was that the sound of someone sharpening an axe?

Something to warm the cockles - Coffee house prompt. You want your pumpkin spice latte and you want it now. Or maybe you want extra nutmeg. Or maybe someone made a pumpkin cheesecake and you want the line to move faster before someone gets the last piece. You're in a coffee house and there's coffee. Have fun with that.

I just raked that - Yes, it's lawncare time. You've been ordered to clean up your yard and make nice efficient piles. Or maybe you're strolling down the street and you happen to see a nice pile just begging you to jump in. Or push your friend. Or maybe someone's dog or cat is hiding in one and is ready to jump out and scare the crap out of you. Only one way to find out.

But it's only so many days until Halloween - Oh. You're one of those. The ones that love Halloween and start setting things up as soon as there's a slight briskness to the air. Well, time to go shopping. Or maybe you need to start setting up the decorations in the window. Or the yard. Or buying candy to appease the inevitable hordes. Halloween comes but once a year, so get ready for it while you can.

Wildcard - There are plenty of autumn activities to do. Make some up on your own, be it strolling with a friend or curling up with someone special and enjoying something sweet

As soon as she finishes her text conversation with Steve, Carol does as she promised and calls the bakery to put a hold on a cherry pie. Then she waffles over an outfit for a while, not sure what's a good look for "a talk." She defers the decision until after a shower, and then dresses in nice jeans, a pretty top, and a jacket to battle the fall chill in the air.

Once she picks up the pie, she flies over to his place and presses the door bell. She's early. Like fifteen minutes early. But in her defense, she's a bundle of nervous and excited energy.

[One of Yukimura's best/worst qualities was easily his inability to turn people away. Whenever he saw someone struggling, he would stop and think, "I want to, but I can't." He would love to help, he really would, but he had other obligations, obligations that surely his lord could never forgive him for neglecting...! But even though he logically knew that, his heart would never let him get away with it.

In other words, Yukimura totally got roped into helping someone rake these motherfuckin' leaves. He just couldn't say no, okay.

This sort of task is probably below the general of an army, but he doesn't mind it too much. He just couldn't stand the thought of letting a little old lady deal with all these leaves herself, you know? The yard is nowhere near finished, but he's already got a nice little piles of leaves going here. He pauses in the raking, looking down at his little pile of leaves proudly...

[ all day, it seems like the fog just keep crawling closer and closer. she keeps peeking out any windows that she passes, brow knit as though she expects the blanket of grey to bring something terrible with it. which is ridiculous, and she knows it. this is los angeles. blackwood pines is like, four entire worlds away. which is also a ridiculous exaggeration on its own, except it's the only thing that's keeping sam from skipping class and escaping to hide in her bedroom for the rest of the day, because that wouldn't do her any good either. just give her way more room to think about what's hiding in the fog.

(she still lives at home, on the basis that she didn't think a dorm roomie would appreciate her occasionally sleepless nights and tendency to wake up yelling in the small hours.)

the cycle home is conducted a damn sight faster than usual, enough that sam is awfully breathless when she gets back to her predictably empty home. her parents are gone for the weekend, and sam hates that she resents this a little; she's not a child, she shouldn't crave the comfort of having company in a large, hollow house. especially not when she knows there's no such thing as safety in numbers anyway. outside, darkness joins the fog; the ethereal glow of the lamplight that accompanied her home had only served to make her feel somewhat queasy. sam lingers with her back against the front door, staring at her darkened hallway for a long while before she drags her phone from her pocket.

she could have asked mike to give her a lift home. he probably would have said yes, even though it's not like they had biology together today. their schedules operate pretty differently outside of that, but she was just a little too proud in that moment. a little too determined to make it back on her own terms, to beat whatever fear is clawing at her, except it doesn't feel like she's won anything.

come over and watch a movie tonight? not rly feeling that party tbh.

sam only ventures forth into the bowels of her home once she's sent that. what a friday night, rejecting party invitations in favour of staying in with netflix. she doesn't care if mike says no, or at least, she doesn't think she'll care. it's completely legitimate if he has no interest in taking her offer over, you know, normal human socialisation, but she feels like she can ask him at least. it's better than a shaky 4am phone call, at least. ]
