[ If anyone ever asks, he'll totally deny that he kinda likes the little guy. As far as he's concerned, it doesn't matter how long it's been, it's just temporary. They can't keep a friggin' dragon (except for the fact that they totally are.)

They keep it, though, and soon enough Dean gives up the threats of getting rid of it, and sticks with the tried and true ones about skinning him.

As much as the dragon likes him, it's clear that Cas is the one he likes the most. Boots will abandon almost anything he's doing when the ex-angel comes in and this time is no different. ]

Dude, he was getting into everything.

[ Dean glances back, wrapping up the work on the car, wiping his hands off as he comes over to help Cas with the groceries. ]

Think he's getting all cabin-fever being locked up in here. He tried to drink motor oil.

Motor oil?

[Even for a dragon, that's bound to be unhealthy and possibly even fatal. Boots has been happy enough with the meat they've been giving him, though sometimes they mix in some potatoes or other greens. They've managed to determine that dragons are omnivores, interestingly enough.

Castiel makes a small motion with his hand that indicates Boots should stay put, and then heads through the garage so that they can set everything down in the kitchen inside. Boots, despite being a little terror at times, is actually rather intelligent when he wants to be.

Castiel glances from Dean to Sam as he starts to put everything away.]

... We should take him out to a place where he has space to move around, but I'm not sure where would be safe. [A large open field? A canyon? But wherever they go, there's the threat of being seen.]

Yeah, he thought it was a blast.

[ Dean rolls his eyes and wraps up work on the car, wiping oil onto a towel as he follows all of them out into the kitchen while they start putting things away. ]

I dunno where that'd be - if he runs off, there's no telling if we can catch him.

[ And he doesn't think that a leash will go over very well with the dragon, honestly. ]

We can see about like...a dogpark at night? Those are fenced in.

I don't know that his wings are large enough to fly him all that far yet.

[Which means that so long as they're in a somewhat enclosed space, it should be fine. But if the little one does end up growing larger, Castiel realizes that it'll eventually become impossible for them to accommodate him.

And what then? It's not as if they can just send him out into the world, even if he is domesticated. Opening the door to Purgatory and tossing Boots in would be both dangerous and cruel.

It's something Castiel's going to need to think on in the next few weeks, because they might not have much more time to figure out a solution.]

A dog park could work. [He turns to Dean as he finishes putting the groceries away, grabbing for a package of ground beef that he got for Boots.] Breaking and entering shouldn't be overly difficult for you, either.

Probably not, yeah.

[ Dean eyes the bag of lettuce and spinach that Sam and Cas purchased, and then eyes Sam in an equally displeased way, because come on now. They seriously don't need a whole bag of this rabbit food.

There are, however, little mini pies from the bakery and he could kiss whoever got those, honestly.

Holding the pies in one hand, he brushes past Castiel, one hand placed against his hip to keep him from bumping back into him while he's got his arms stacked and then he makes it to the pantry, stuffing the minis in there. ]

Should be fine. [ AND EXCUSE U!!! Dean turns with raised eyebrows as Sam stifles a laugh. ] Wow, buddy, you got somethin' you wanna say about my life choices?

[If he wants to kiss the one responsible for the pies, then that would require tonguing with a certain ex-angel. (Are you really ready for that, Dean?)

It's not as if Castiel's only resorted to eating healthy food. It's something he tries to be aware of, but he has his vices. He's got another bag of coffee grounds and filters, along with a packet of ground beef that's meant for some homemade burgers rather than being Boots' dinner.

When Dean's hand sets against his hip, particularly the one where he's tattooed, Castiel straightens for a moment and glances over his shoulder. He and Dean have never been shy about physical contact, but usually it's a gripping hand on the shoulder or a brief but tight hug. This is something else and while it isn't worth commenting on, that doesn't stop Castiel from quietly taking note of it.]

... Not at all. It's working to our advantage. [He shrugs casually.] There's no need to be defensive.

[ No, because boys are gross. Dean starts divvying up everything that's in one arm and putting it away, barely having noticed the touch. It wasn't a big deal in his mind - he was making sure that Cas didn't back up into him and there wasn't room to -

No, it was intentional, if not slightly subconscious. This place is making him soft, he's treating it like how when he was with Lisa and that's dangerous. That turned out like shit last time and there's no way to fix it.

Still. It's easier to focus on this - the faint amusement at Castiel, the way Dean's lips twitch up as he teases. ]

Seeing how you and Sam subsist off of credit card fraud, it's hardly inaccurate.

[Castiel doesn't see why this is such an issue in the first place. Dean and Sam have been breaking law after law after since he met them, and Castiel's never questioned it. It's part of being a hunter, from what he understands.

It's not as if Castiel hasn't done the same in the past, although now that he's human that's changed considerably. He mainly lets Dean and Sam worry about the finances, but he's slowly becoming more aware of just how important currency is for humans.

With everything put away, Castiel turns his attention to Boots, who races over to him and practically slobbers all over his hand. It's difficult to decide if the dragon resembles a cat or a dog more.

He glances over his shoulder at Dean.] When should we take him?

Yeah, and remind me we get to teach you that, too.

[ Truthfully, he's a little concerned about the fact that Cas might end up without them at some point. The last thing he wants is him to end up with a bunch of hobos under a bridge or something because he doesn't know how to be human.

Snagging one of the pies, he closes the drawer and unwraps it. It's one of the little hand-held ones, practically a pie sandwich situation and Dean takes a bite with a little hum of satisfaction. Sam looks less enthused about the pie, but he's got his stupid salads so he can suck it up. ]

Sometime after dark. I know he ain't exactly gonna be thrilled, but we may wanna look into a leash.

[Teach him? Castiel can barely wrap his head around the basic concept of what they do. Getting into the paperwork and logistics of it does not sound like his idea of a good time, and he doesn't exactly hide that either, with the face that he pulls.

He realizes that Dean's trying to look out for him, but if it comes to that, he would rather get himself a job and earn some money the traditional way. That seems far more reasonable than running a scam. Doing that requires being smooth and Castiel has come to accept that he isn't.

Oddly enough, even though Boots is scaled, he likes to be pet, and so Castiel's bending down to do just that when a leash is mentioned.]

You're right. He won't like it, but we can give it a try. If we go that route, we'll need to get a very strong leash. [Boots is bound to just tear through most of them. Or he might try to burn them off, so they'll need to keep an eye out for that too.]

[ Hey, there's no pity to be had for you here, buddy. It doesn't sound like a good time to him either, mostly because of the reasons Cas has. He's too honest - he wouldn't be able to do the lying and the faking that it'd take to run those scams, not right away.

A terrible part of him points out that Cas was able to lie to him and Sam for ages, though, and that still stings so he doesn't think too hard about it. ]

We can try something metal. Leather collar, but metal leash. Get him wearing the collar or like one of those dog harnesses 'round the house and then we attach it. Won't even notice it's there.

[ Unless he tries to fly off. ]

If we can get him used to it here in a space he's comfortable with, that may work. [Domesticating a dragon is hardly the smartest idea they've ever had, but it's something that's just happened without Castiel meaning for it.

Still, it's gone well enough so far. Sometimes Boots makes a mess and things are hardly perfect, but he hasn't scorched anything important and he's even learned how to ride around in Dean's car.]

We'll need to go searching for one. Or maybe this would be better to find on... the internet.

[Even now, the internet is a rather strange place for Castiel. He's learned the basics of searching and using Google, but beyond that it still seems like a very mysterious place. Nonetheless, he can't deny the usefulness of online shopping.]

[ Domesticating a dragon is seriously not the best idea they've ever had but it's what they've got. Dean's still fixed on the mantra of not keeping him not keeping him not keeping him but by this point he's pretty sure everyone knows he's full of shit anyway.

Besides, adjusting to the little monster hasn't been that bad, he supposes. It's weird waking up to a big lump on his chest when he's trying to crash on the couch, but not altogether bad. ]

I actually think there's one off Roy Rogers road.

[ Dean turns to glance at Sam when he points that out, considering. Yeah, he saw a fenced in area but hadn't given it too much thought. ]

Yeah. We can scope it out.

[So they even have a place in mind for where they could take Boots, and from the way that Sam and Dean are speaking, it doesn't sound as if it's that far away either.

It's frustrating that he has to consider things like distance now, but it's become a necessary evil in his life. Transportation is still something he's not very fond of, but he's slowly gotten used to it.

Boots still has his wings, but unless he grows bigger, they won't do him all that much good. Castiel's hand moves from the dragon's back down to a wing, brushing lightly over it.]

We could go now, if you have the energy for it.

[Boots might not like it if Castiel leaves again, but so long as Sam stays behind it should be fine.]

Dude, be a little less excited, okay.

[ He keeps the teasing tone, lips twitching up just a little bit at the way Cas is so eager to take him out, get him some time outside of the bunker. He can't blame him, but at the same time, it's kind of ridiculous how he's so into this.

(Because Dean's not. He's totally not, nope. Not one bit.) ]

Yeah, we can. It's...actually probably dark enough we could bring Boots along, get him -

[ At hearing his name, the dragon lifts his head and chirps curiously, waddling over and placing clawed paws on Dean's knee, butting his head up against his hand in a clear motion to make him pet him. ]

Yeah, talkin' about you, buddy, not at you, get your claws off my legs.

[ He steps back gingerly, jerking his chin to the door. ]

You wanna go? Sammy can you hold down the fort?

[Is he conveying excitement? It could be the fact that he's eager to get out and find a place for Boots, but it's not as if they had any other plans for the day, beyond Dean making them lunch and then sitting back to watch a few movies.

At first, it had bothered him. He'd wondered how the Winchesters couldn't spend every waking moment looking for another job or researching. But since becoming human, Castiel's slowly learned to appreciate some of the finer things.

Like having a pet dragon, apparently.

Boots has definitely taken a liking to Dean, and Castiel manages a small smile as he watches the dragon move over to try and get Dean's attention.]

We can go. But are you sure it's okay to take him without a leash?

[perkynipples]

We can make something pretty fast. The garage has a ton of stuff.

[ Dean gives the little monster one pat on the head, jerking his chin to the door leading to the garage. He's seen a few various things that'd work - chains at the very least, and he's pretty sure he can fashion something up with what's laying around in the garage. It'd be easier if the damn thing spoke english, but that's probably asking a little too much.

Sam helps him out before he can do anything, though, vanishing down the hall with a just a sec and coming back with something held in his hands that Boots waddles across the ground to see, tail lashing back and forth. ]

I found a bunch of these, actually- supposed to go in the dungeon, I think.

[ It's a collar - metal, with etchings on it, and room for a chain to hook into the front. ]

If you wrap it in cloth or something, it shouldn't irritate his scales.

[Sam and Dean are nothing if not innovative, and so the fact that the two of them putting their heads together for a few minutes leads to a homemade leash isn't all that surprising to Castiel.

Still, he's pleased by it despite that because even if he's human himself, he has enough distance from them that he can still admire them. He may be human, yes, but it wasn't by choice and there will always be a difference. He'll never quite fit in.

He doesn't know if that's good or bad. At least that's one thing he shares with Boots, though.]

That should work. [He nods to Sam and then crouches down to look Boots in the eye.] Are you going to throw a fit if we fasten something around your neck?

[Boots chirps and tilts his head at him.]

That's dragon for yes.

[ Dean leans over Cas from behind, pointing a finger at the dragon threateningly. Boots looks at it like he wants to consider chewing it, and Dean rolls his eyes.

They get the dragon harnessed fairly easily, honestly. Dean was expecting a lot more bitching, but he and Cas get settled in the car and Boots curls up obediently with his head on Dean's knee while he's driving, his body curled between Cas' legs so he's not visible while they drive.

The drive is easy enough, and the dog park is just as easy to get into - Dean pops the lock and ushers the two of them in, letting Boots bolt across the fenced in area, chains rattling. ]

...Someone's happy.

[Everything goes off without a hitch, which Castiel's similarly surprised by. It seems that months spent with human contact means that Boots is a bit more cooperative than he might have been otherwise.

Still, it's clear that he's been eager for this. The bunker is large and accommodating and offers Boots plenty of places to sniff around and search through (sometimes to their chagrin), but it's nothing compared to fresh air and open skies.

He starts bounding through the grass and Castiel takes a quick look around, to make sure they're well and truly alone. If someone gets footage of Boots and posts it up somewhere, it could cause a lot of trouble.

On the other hand, most people would assume it was a hoax. Every now and then, humans and their ability to turn a blind eye to things comes in handy.

Castiel steps up next to Dean, standing shoulder-to-shoulder as he watches Boots play.] He's going to want to roughhouse. [That's just inevitable.]

[ Dean keeps a careful eye on everything going on around them. It won't do to end up with some teenagers videotaping them with a dragon and a guy who's supposed to be dead legally. Yeah, that's not something he wants to deal with. So he watches their surroundings, keeping half an eye on the dragon running around, wings flapping furiously with no real way to get off the ground yet. ]

He's trying.

[ Dean can't help the amused tilt to his lips, glancing over when Cas' shoulders press against his side, one long line of warmth that he's a little grateful for it with how cold it is.

The idea of roughhousing isn't exactly what he's expecting to be brought up, but yeah, that's...probably true. He's gotten a touch bigger, and while Dean isn't directly involved with him all the time, it's still like having a dog. ]

[Even if Boots can't quite get himself off the ground yet, his wings are hardly harmless. They're far enough away that it doesn't make a different at the moment, but a strong flap with those wings could easily knock one of them over.

Not that Boots would ever intentionally hurt them. Ever since that incident with Castiel's hand getting burned (and he still has a nasty scar from that, covering his palm), Boots has been as gentle as possible. Sometimes he still doesn't know his own strength, though.

Honestly, Castiel's comfortable where he's standing next to Dean, as it is cold out and body warmth is helping to keep him from shivering.

But then Boots starts bounding back toward them, wings flapping and looking even more excitable than usual. Castiel shoots Dean a weary look before stepping forward and crouching down to brace for Boots' tackle.]

Hey, don't you dare gimme that woe is me look.

[ You're the one who picked the little guy up, not the other way around. It's your problem that they've got a dragon that wants to get let out and run around like some kinda weirdo scaly dog. Dean rolls his eyes and steps back. Like hell he's gonna get trampled by a lizard.

Cas braces for it and Boots chirps happily, slamming into him and crawling all over him. He's careful with his claws, thankfully - they're sharp but he keeps them back and just paws at him, squirming up and into Cas' lap even if he's not sitting and Dean crouches down to help with a little snort. He braces Cas with one hand at his forearm and leans in to help him up and the dragon promptly decides it'd rather have him on the ground.

Dean's not quite sure how the hell it happens - he's friggin' hunter, not a five year old learning how to walk, but he ends up tipping and gropes for something to hold onto while the dragon wiggles between them and ends up braced with one knee between Cas' thighs, one hand braced on his shoulder, the dragon smooshed between them. ]

[It's not as if this sort of thing hasn't happened before. Boots has a tendency to jump at them or walk between their legs and his bulk is enough, combined with his wings, to easily trip them up and knock them over. It's a hazard that comes with owning a dragon, and at least they're falling on grass.

So when Dean ends up next to him, awkward position and all, with Boots wedged between them? Castiel isn't necessarily surprised.

But Dean is practically in his lap, and while Castiel doesn't have much consideration for personal space, they've never been quite this close before.]

-- Sorry. [He tries to maneuver away, but Boots just pounces at him again, causing him to fall flat on his back. Castiel suppresses a laugh and shakes his head. He should have known this would happen.]

Uh. Shit, sorry-

[ Dean shifts, tries to squirm back and get away to give the other man some space and just winds up tangled in the dragon's tail and Cas' legs, huffing out an embarrassed little laugh. God, okay, he can do this, get your shit together Winchester, you're not a girl. ]

Normally I'd buy you dinner first.

[ He gives Cas an apologetic look, half-grimace, and shifts off, and just rolls onto his back on the grass, the dragon clambering over Cas to get to him, perching himself right on Dean's stomach with an oof, shit from the man. ]

Dude, what are you feeding him, he's like sixty pounds.
