[There's a merman swimming through the depths by a rocky outcropping on the beach, when a sweet sound reaches his ears. He looks around curiously, then underneath him and through his fins. Nope, totally alone.

Tilting his head, he realizes it's coming from the surface and he moves over to the shadow of one boulder, rising up enough to expose his eyes and skim the rocks for whatever's making that wonderful melody.]

[As it turns out, the sound is coming from a young lady sitting on the rocks at the shore, singing to herself as she observed the aquatic life in a tide pool. Her long, light pink hair was pulled back in a loose braid, and she wore a modest two-piece bathing suit that was slightly damp from the waves.

Thinking she was alone, she continued to sing another song, very carefully removing some trash from among the rocks and putting it in a bag she'd brought with her.]

[He blinked and moved around to get a better view, still staying down and out of sight as best he could. Her song was so... lovely, he had to hear it all.]

[Her voice, though soft, was clear and sweet, even as she continued picking up nearby trash around the area. Then, something must have happened in the tide pool she was watch, because she stopped for a moment to giggle.]

[Forgetting himself the longer he watched her, he pulled himself up a little and rested one arm across a flatter rock, resting his cheek on the other hand.

That giggle was as pretty as her singing.]

[Watching the creatures in the tide pool for a little longer, she gets up and is about to head off, still singing a little to herself.

But then she notices him and stops, gasping in surprise. Blushing, she ducks behind some of the taller rocks.]

[He blinks and sits up with a little surprised noise.]

H-hey, it's alright! [Wow, good job Chris, you spooked her. He sighed a little, resting both arms on the rock.]

I'm sorry I scared ya. I was just... swimmin' by and heard you singing. It's.

It's really pretty...

[She peers out slightly from behind the rock; even though it's just her eyes, it's easy to tell that she was still blushing.]

Th...Th-Thank you...

[There's a moment's pause before she looks out a little more, somewhat curiously.]

B-But I-I thought...this was off limits...I-Isn't it...too dangerous t-to...swim in this area...?

[beingthecreature]

Off limits? [He laughs nervously and draws back a bit; there's an odd shimmer in the water behind him, then it's gone.]

Oh, did I say swimming through... here? I meant uh- swimming over... there and came around the rocks, then hopped in so I wouldn't... uh. So I wouldn't um, spook... you...

...That's not much of a story, is it.

[strengthinkindness]

[She just stares at him curiously, still hiding a little behind the rocks.]

[beingthecreature]

[He sighs through his nose, clearly thinking.

Then he glances at her out of the corners of his eyes.]

...Can you keep a secret?

[strengthinkindness]

[She blinks, nodding slightly.]

[beingthecreature]

[He watched her face for a moment or two, then leaned forward a little, balancing his weight on his folded arms.

Behind him, the water shifts and parts as the fins come up out of it, his tail curling toward the shore.]

[She gasps, her eyes widening as she stares at the tail peaking out of water.]

Y-You're...You're a -

[beingthecreature]

Merman.

Yeah.

[strengthinkindness]

[Her eyes brighten, and suddenly a smile splits her face. She jumps down from the rocks to get closer to him, her body shaking with excitement.]

Oh my goodness, a real merman! That's incredible!

[beingthecreature]

[His smile brightened when she did, and he laughed softly.]

Yeah, that's me. My name's Chris.

[strengthinkindness]

[Oh right, introductions are a thing. Realizing that she was no longer hidden, she shrinks into herself a little, once again feeling rather timid.]

I-I'm...F-Fluttershy...

[beingthecreature]

Fluttershy. [He rests both hands on either side of his face.] That's a nice name.

[strengthinkindness]

[She blushes slightly, part of her hair falling in her face as she glances away.] Th-Thank you...

[beingthecreature]

Alright, Fluttershy. So, what were you doing out here all by your lonesome?

[strengthinkindness]

O-Oh I-I was just...p-picking up trash along the beach... [She holds up the trash bag in her hand.]

[beingthecreature]

[Well, THOSE were the magic words.]

Really? That's great!

[He snickered a little, leaning on one hand and waving the other vaguely.]

If only more people did that, or cared about their trash in the first place. It'd be better down here, that's for sure.

Oh I know...I always get so worried about the poor ocean creatures, so I like trying to pick up as much trash as I can.
