[He blinked, then laughed gently.] Even though the "alluring song" thing generally goes in the other direction.

[She giggled softly.] I did wonder about that...

So does that mean you sing? May I hear?

[It was his turn to flush, and he chuckled a little, nervous.]

N-no, that's alright. I'm not very... It's just the girls that-... I... ...Maybe later?

O-Oh, I'm sorry...I didn't mean to embarrass you...

[She really did want to hear him sing. But she wouldn't push it.]

For humans, maybe. [Not that he has much of a yardstick to go off of.] For merpeople, nnnnotsomuch.

Really? So are all merpeople supposed to sing really well?

In general, yeah. The whole "luring ships to their death" thing is a myth, at least for those of us with any decent morals, but most merpeople can at least carry a tune. Call it a species trait.

If we can't sing there's no big deal, since only a select few make it a profession, but. [He chuckled and shrugged.] I'd still like to be able to, someday.

I'm sure you will someday. You can always learn, right?

Yeah, there's always that. [Being able to sit still long enough to learn however, that could be an issue.]

You should ask someone to teach you. Sometimes it's easier to learn that way.

Well, I'd have to find a willing teacher, first...

[There's the spark of an idea, and then he leeeeaaannnnsss on his hand, giving her a knowing grin.]

[She blinks, for a moment not quite understanding.

She gets it eventually, though she has some trouble believing it.]

[Then his smile turns a little unsure.] But if you've got... obligations or other things you'd rather be doing, I understand...

How would you know unless you gave it a shot?
