Arranged Marriage Turned More


To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them.
Much less love them...

Still, things can change.

You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you,
they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least,
an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection.

Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love.

Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste?

the BLACKOUT meme

having the power go out can be anything from an inconvenience to a disaster. you can explore that spectrum here. is it cozy? is it deadly? is your character most concerned about the wifi being down?

reasons.
1. natural. storms or earthquakes or your neighbor's kid driving into the power pole.
2. unnatural. aliens have invaded, monsters have overrun, or the avengers have knocked out the power grid again.
3. setting. in post-apocolyptic conditions or off the grid setups, questionable utilities are a given.
4. you. somehow you have caused this mess. fix it or pass the blame.

what to do.
1. wait it out. light up a candle and hunker down.
2. fix it. for those who invested in the handiness skill: fuel up a generator, flip a breaker, replace a fuse.
3. leave. there's a reason the power is out, and maybe that reason has you on the move.
4. this is my life now. enjoy the simple lifestyle, because the power's gone for good.

Touches. Glances. Sides brushing, so close to each other. The moment is, most likely, quite, subdued, and calm. Or it could be loud and full of life, right in the middle of a vivacious party. Yet, no matter the case, your blood is pumping - no, nearly boiling with the passion bubbling between you and your companion.

Unfortunately, this sexual tension is completely and absolutely out of line. Whether it be the place, the time, your relationship with the person (be that literal relation or power difference, age difference, experience difference, and so on), your own lack of knowledge, or personal convictions, you should not act on any building desires.

But here's the thing about tension: it builds. It builds, and it builds, until...

Well, even subtlety can come to an inappropriate head.
