It's been like this your entire life. Or perhaps it just seems that way, since it's been this way so long. Or it could hasn't been that long, and you remember what things were like before - worthless, fruitless, purposeless. Now, though, all is different. You've sworn your life to someone...or had your life sworn to them by someone else, back when you were young or powerless enough to not control your life. It doesn't matter if this swearing is an expected part of your society or an oddity in a modern age, here you are, and you know what you're here for. This isn't servitude, not in a fashion, as there's theoretically an honor here in your absolute loyalty. You are essentially on your "sworn duty's" level, you've just, well, chosen to dedicate your life to them. So if you're their best or brainwashed into being their right hand, all of it comes from a place of admiration!

Theoretically.

Your position, of course, means you're a tool to be used, and every job needs a different tool. What's your job? Were you raised from an infant be be a constant companion for the one you're sworn to, who you grew up with? Instead, you could be a bodyguard or a first line of defense. In some cultures, there's an expectation that people be good in bed for future spouses; you could be there to train the one you're sworn to in the art of lovemaking. Of course, how well you're able to do your job depends on how your relationship is with your most important person. Are they kind? Cruel? What if they don't want you? It will be incredibly awkward if neither of you want to be in this position.

One certainty is this, however: romance and sexuality, unless heavily controlled, is forbidden. After all, how can you effectively dedicate yourself to them if some part of you wants them to dedicate themself to you?

It's easier to understand metaphors when they're not metaphors. The human brain just prefers concrete information. Luckily for you, you live in a world where there's one less abstract; for as long as you can remember, you've known about the glow. The "glow" is exactly what it sounds like - it's a glowing in your chest, emanating from your heart, that you receive when you meet the one. Your soulmate. Your actual, indisputable soulmate.

The glow doesn't always automatically happen when you meet that person. Sometimes, there's a delay. Sometimes, you've known them for years before it kicks in. When it happens, though, you'll know. You can't simply ignore your ribcage lighting up.

Other than that, the glow isn't harmful, per se, at least not physically. Psychologically, it can be pretty taxing, because there's virtually no chance of escaping fate. You will end up with the person you glow for. It's a given. Sure, you can try to defy it. You won't explode or anything. You will, however, begin to feel a sense of incompleteness that comes from trying to stay away, and fighting the growing - and glowing - feelings of fondness and the desire to be with them and to protect them.

hate ♡ ...are you serious? They're your bully! Your rival! Your enemy! There has to be something wrong here.
forbidden ♡ You're glowing for somebody totally wrong, whether it's wrong by law - a relation or age difference - or some other manner.
distaste ♡ You view this whole process with a critical eye. Doesn't mean your exempt.
with someone else ♡ You thought you found the one and were just waiting for the glow to show, but then, you started up with another person.
inopportune time ♡ Nobody likes their big speech ruined by a glowing heart.
unfortunate implications ♡ These sorts of memes rarely explore how creepy the idea of soulmates intrinsically is. What if you end up with someone you are ultimately incompatible with? What if you're miserable?
doing something big ♡ They just saved you from certain death! Rescued you from captors! Loaned you five bucks! And how do you repay them except by starting off their glow.
fighting it ♡ Nope. Nope. Not going to happen. You won't give in. You'll be the first in history to shake it off.
giving in ♡ ...you were saying? Might as well get together.
first time ♡ The obligatory sex option. Sex is like sealing the deal, and some report their whole bodies lighting up.

When the two of you were young, you were inseparable. You played together, dreamed together, did absolutely everything together. A day without the other was unthinkable. Other people joked that you two were a pair of little lovebirds; what they didn't know is that they were absolutely right. Of course, it was the kind of innocent love that only children could have, but you were in love.

Then, life got in the way. Things changed and the two of you may have grown apart. Now, you've finally come back together and fortune's smiling as if it may be just like old times.

Life is about change, and more often then not confronting it can be a terrifying experience. It's always played up in fiction, moving to a new house becomes the world ending, losing a loved one becomes killing something or someone, never the less it's an important dramatic device. NEW change without any previous knowledge and no idea what's happening to you is terrifying. Simply put - this meme is about change, new change, and whatever might come of this change it's usually terrifying. Basically, you've changed and your friends/family/loved ones and yourself have to cope. Do you accept it? Or run from it? Do you fight it and panic, are you instantly outcasted?

You’re stranded it’s as simple as that. Maybe you were on your way to a nice relaxing holiday, a business trip or maybe you were just on your way home. Whatever the case, it doesn’t look like you’re going to be reaching your destination any time soon. You’re stuck and all you can do is to try and survive until help arrives. If help ever does arrive. Well, at least you’re not alone. No, there’s someone here stranded with you. Maybe you know them, maybe they’re a complete stranger or maybe they were stranded here long before you. Whoever they are you’re going to have to work together to get out of this mess.

 

What you do to survive and what happens to you is up to you. Do you search for food, do you try and find any signs of human life, do you have a run in with the locals or the local wildlife or do you just close your eyes and hope someone finds you. Whatever happens good luck.

There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life.

But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor?

They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?"

  • Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desire role.

  • Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

Everyone knows the feeling of when you see someone and you know you've seen them before. Isn't that a part of déjà vu? But what if the connection you have with that person goes beyond the superficial recognition of familiarity? Perhaps you were connected once...in the most intimate of ways. Some religions and philosophies believe in reincarnation of souls, and it's said that souls could be reincarnated together - once again to follow out the same path they did before.

Or maybe not. Maybe it could be a second chance for fixing things that went wrong before, like the a tragedy or circumstances keeping you apart. But can you take that chance? Do you even want to?

HOW TO PLAY
  • Comment with your character, stating preferences and pertinent information.
  • Tag around to others and roll the RNG to determine what your scenario will be.
    • The first roll determines the parameters of the "past life," the second the parameters of the "present life." The meme is intended to take place in the present, but there's nothing stopping you from playing out flashbacks to the "past."
  • Play out the scene!

 A. THE PAST
  1. Medieval: The two of you lived in the middle ages or an equal high fantasy setting. Kings, queens, knights, wizards, your doomed love was set among the sword and shield.
  2. Feudal Japan: During this time, honor reigned supreme and warriors lived and died by the sword. Perhaps the two of you lived here?
  3. War: World War I, World War II, World War...III? Whatever the tension was, the two of you weren't living in happy times.
  4. Not Human: You were gods, demons, monsters, angels - or at least one of you was.
  5. Sci-Fi: The two of you found love in a world of science and technology...maybe a base on the moon?
  6. Taboo: In a past life, the two of you were related, yet still somehow fell in love. Or perhaps there was a big age gap, or different social standings. Whatever it was, your affection was "wrong," somehow.
  7. Intended for Someone Else: One of you was engaged, intended, or taken by someone else.
  8. Not Allowed: For some reason, you couldn't have your love back then.
  9. Tragically Cut Short: Somehow, your love ended in tragedy and one of you died.
  10. Living Happily Ever After: The two of you grew old together, had a family, the whole shebang, and died of old age. As a reward, you get to be with your loved one again.

B. THE PRESENT
  1. (Not So) First Meeting: You could swear you've seen this person before...but where?
  2. Need to Be Near You: You don't know why, but you have to be close to this person, to protect them, to love them.
  3. Memories: You're having memories of your past life and it's freaking you out.
  4. The Reveal: Somehow, the truth is revealed to you about who you used to be and what you life was like with this person.
  5. But I'm Taken: Unfortunately, you've already moved on to someone else who doesn't fit into the picture of your past.
  6. You Have to Be With Me: You're determined to rejoin with your past lover...even if they're not interested.
  7. He Doesn't See Me: You're afraid your lover only sees the past "you" and not the you who exists now. Are they in love with a memory?
  8. Madness Ensues: It's getting hard for you to tell which life is the "real" one, the one you have now or the one in the past. Perhaps you only see one way of release: becoming reincarnated again.
  9. It All Worked Out: The battles are fought, the war is won. You've earned your happy ending in this life and the two of you can live together.
