Film Noir AU meme

- You know what to do next, honey. Do hurry up, the night's not getting any younger.

Possible settings:

1. Crime Scene: Dead body? Burglary? Whatever the crime, the area's been sectioned off for officers to investigate this nefarious deed, and you're getting front row seat.

2. Bar: There's always some hole-in-the-wall frequented by all sorts. The bartender keeps an eye out for trouble, and other things. Of course he keeps an ear to the ground, but it'll cost ya. Perhaps a cop or two will show up demanding answers, but no one ever takes that seriously.

3. Docks at Night: The breeze caressing your face, the sound of the water, the boats passing by...maybe you were called here, or maybe you just like the peace it brings.

4. Alleyway: There's only one way in and out of this little corridor, and what happens in it is up to you and the other character. Just watch for the shadows, if you can see through the fog.

5. Detective's Office: Not too clean, not too messy. Just perfect for the person that's needed to get this mystery cleared up.

6. Rooftop: The wind dramatically blowing about, it's the perfect place to get that person to come and meet you so you can tell them what you want. Or if you're evil, why not kill them up here? It'll be hard to escape you.

7. Dressing Room: For some reason, you're backstage after a performance, and you've gotten into one of these. The mirrors, the costumes, the flowers from fans and the various personal affects...all are present and will be your silent witnesses to whatever occurs.

8. Hideout: You've gotten to the antagonist's spot of choice. Is this a glitzy nightclub with a private room, or is this an abandoned warehouse where they-or you-carry out their plot? The choice is yours.

9. Nightclub: Someone's showcasing their talent tonight, and you may or may not care about it. But it's classic, dimly lit, and it's easy to hide in here.

10. Free choice

Possible relationships:

1. Friends: Maybe you're an unstoppable team, or perhaps your relationship is getting strained. But whatever the situation, you know this person, and you'd be there for them.

2. Coworkers/teammates/classmates: You might not be friends, but you know this person well enough to remember their name. And right now you're being thrown together for a reason.

3. Lovers: This is the one you wanted to stay with for now. Married, dating, or maybe an affair, but you two care about each other enough.

4. Enemies: Utter hatred flows through your veins when you hear this person's name. This is the one you want to take down, and you just might stop at nothing to achieve your goal.

5. Family: Perhaps it's a sibling you're meeting. Or your parent, or some form of relative. Remember that phrase "blood is thicker than water"? It just might apply here.

6. Mysterious Stranger: Someone's been eyeing you from across the room, or you've been eyeing them. Will you two speak, or shall they float out of your life? Do they hold information you seek, or do they want something from you?

7. Femme Fatale: You are or have encountered a mysterious and seductive woman, whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. Watch out, you might just get yourself into a real mess of trouble, hot stuff.

[OOC: Torunn actually had a Noir-verse in which Loki killed off Thor to take control of the family. He then bedded Thor's wife, making her his queen while raising Thor's daughter as his own. You know, the usual.]

[OOC: Default Noir!verse stance is that her father had her locked away some odd years ago in a move to separate her and Pietro -- and because he saw Wanda as a liability. But with Erik now dead, Pietro has taken over the family and sprung his sister, making her his queen.]

(oh god, dreams are made of Dragon Age noir. I'm open to all of these possibilities.)

[Carol knows she's being followed. The girl's younger than her and less experienced, and honestly, Carol's just hard to get a drop on these days. She knows she's being followed, but she doesn't do a damn thing to stop it. She keeps walking, heels clicking on the sidewalk, dark coat hiding her colorful uniform, until she reaches a building she knows has roof access.

She could get up there by flying. But she doesn't want to lose her pursuer. Not until she has a chance to talk to the girl.

It's not until she makes it to the roof that she stops, looking out at the city, and says: ]

So you're her, then. The one they're calling my replacement.

[There wasn't a reason Kamala had started to follow the ... Well, okay, so hero worship counted as a reason, but she had never intended to continue it on so much. When she spoke, she froze for a moment]

I... never replacement. No one could replace you.

I know that. [Carol turns around, a bit of a smirk on her face. She's not exactly slighted--she gave up her title all on her own, and the kid doesn't mean any harm.

Doesn't mean she can't push the kid's buttons.]

But you're still using my name. You know how people talk.

[ooc: I can never resist this. Please, anyone, tag in with anything and we can run with it. I can also switch to action tags if you prefer. Have a 5. Feel free to be a client, a friend, an ex, an enemy, the police, or her secretary bringing her more coffee.]

It was a slow night in a slow week, which was a problem for two reasons. First, Hawke was bored. Most people thought the life of a private detective meant action and danger and excitement, and it did--but only for ten minute increments. Most of the time it was dull, tedious work. Or worse, no work at all and waiting around for someone to knock on the door and give her a damn job.

The second problem was money. She was running low, and that was bad. Waiting around the office meant she'd run through all the coffee, and most of the biscuits as well.

Hawke leaned against one hand and rapped a tattoo on her desk with the other. Someone would show up needing something, sooner or later. This town wasn't kind to anyone, and there were any number of problems the police just couldn't solve. Or couldn't solve discreetly, or quickly, or thoroughly. She just had to wait. Something would happen.

Taking one last drag from her cigarette, Morrigan paused just outside the office. Her chin almost disappeared within the crisp black lines of her coat, and she looked impatiently around, smoke unfurling from her mouth and reaching for the night sky. She had done all she could to make sure she wasn't under surveillance when she left and didn't see anything suspicious upon getting out of the car, but her mother was never in the dark about things for long.

She tossed her cigarette to the ground, crushed it underfoot, and knocked on the door.

Hawke corrected her posture at once. She didn't put a huge amount of effort into looking professional--she was known for getting results, and that was how she liked it--but there was no point in advertising hi, I haven't had a job in weeks and am bored out of my skull, please tell me you'll pay me to solve some dangerous problem and I can get out of this blighted office. Just to make things look a bit better, she grabbed a piece of paper and pretended to have been looking at it. "Come on in, it's unlocked."

[ooc: Dorian would be a bartender who knows all the secrets of the criminal underground and is a great source of information for any cops or private eyes. He gets all this information because his family is one of the ruling crime families. He's trying to leave that life behind and be one of the good guys.]

[For her, this will largely be a darker version of canon.]

[Princess of one of the city's lesser crime families, 100% femme fatale and out for blood after her favorite uncle's murder.]

He knew she was trouble the moment she walked in the bar, all dolled up in pink and hair in perfect curls. She was as out of place as anyone could be in a dive like this, and there was no way Adachi could take his eyes off her, carrying herself like she had every right to be there. His were not the only eyes watching her, and he finished off his drink before getting up, walking over to her like he was expecting her.

"Hey there, doll. Been waitin' for you."

Maribelle, of course, had known from the instant that she'd walked in that this place was trouble. Even so, she'd merely ensured her skirt was straight, and she met the approach of a perfect stranger with nothing more than a raised eyebrow and a slight frown. "Oh?" she responded, her tone coolly polite as she gave him a once-over.

Adachi smirked slightly, his eyes flicking around as the casual lookers turned away, seeing a taken woman and suddenly not interested. Only the users were still looking; the kind that saw prey no matter who was next to it. He smoothly slipped to her side, wrapping an arm loosely around her shoulders, guiding her away from those hungry eyes.

"'Course. Sorry a dame like you had to come out to a place like this though."

Maribelle, catching the mood, allowed the stranger to guide her - for now - but kept a rather firm grip on her parasol with one hand in case he attempted anything inappropriate. But she needed help, and she had been told that here was the place to find it. Her father was in trouble, and the caliber of help she was used to getting wouldn't dare to touch her case with the way the other blue-bloods were breathing down their necks about it. Something was wrong.

But one man, a Dojima, had mentioned a "partner" who might be able to help her - and so here she was, in search of him. She may be able to handle herself, but she had no idea what she was getting into. She glanced over at the man, her eyebrow still raised. "As am I."

Adachi waited until they were out of sight of the wolves, before he glanced again at the lovely lady. She was one hell of a fox, and he couldn't help but appreciate the look of her up close.

"This isn't the kind of place for a lady," he said softly.

Not only did Maribelle tend to spend a not-inconsiderable amount of time on her appearance, but she possessed a natural beauty. Of course, she was quite proud of that, and so was able to tell why the man was staring at her. "So I gathered," she said, glancing back at the dive but refusing to allow her nervousness to show. She looked over at the strange man again. "And it hardly seems the sort of place for a gentleman."

[The fog rolled in over the city, settling down every alleyway and corner, turning them all mysterious and moody. The sky overhead was cloudy and threatened to rain at any second. The color was leeched away until everything was in tones of black, white, and grey. It was a perfect noir setting. A little too perfect.

The source of this change was the creature currently wearing a dark trenchcoat and a fedora which had holes cut out for his horns. Discord leaned up against a lamppost, paw and talons shoved down deep into his pockets. All the inhabitants of this city were now caught up in his little game. It would be interesting to see how they would play their parts.]

[Prince of New York City in her campaign. That can either be ported back to a noir setting, or she can be a human crime boss.]

((The junior detective of the Rainbow Line Agency, Right's the rare optimist in these dark times. His friendly demeanor and childish behaviors helps people open up to him when they would otherwise remain close-lipped to his partner Hikari, the famous Kendama Detective. Some foes are foolish enough to think of Right as a naive fool that only cares about friends and food. They learn really quick not to underestimate him when he gets serious. And God help you if you mess with his friends - or his food.))

[~~Late to the party, augh.~~ Detective Spiral used to be a high-ranking assassin in the Mojo family until the family patriarch died, and since being freed from that life she's tried to go straight, picking up a young girl as a ward and starting her own private investigation business.

Alternatively, she's a mob doctor who either deals in plastic surgery or enhancements, depending on how noir you want to be.]
