Mmhmm. Well, you'll have some downtime. Maybe you'll watch some shows. There's a lot of kinky shit out there masquerading as entertainment. Who knows?

[She set the basket on the counter and smiled at the cashier as she started to scan the items in and package them up in wrapping paper and discreet bags.]

Gonna watch with me?

[He smiles at the cashier as well- a little hesitantly, but he reminds himself that this is not her first time, just his. And then- the man who had been eying them earlier finally approaches full on, pointing at Bucky.]

You're the Winter Soldier, aren't you. I wasn't sure at first- but- You're the one who killed all those people.

[In a sex shop. The last place Bucky ever thought he'd be confronted at would be a sex shop, and so he just stands there frozen for a moment, jaw tightening.]

I'm not.

Yes you are, I can see it in your eyes.

[The guy insists, his hands curling into fists like he's about ready to fight.]

[The mood went from lighthearted and fun to antagonistic in a heartbeat, and Jess turned from where she'd been watching the bags get filled to the man who'd been eying them.

It was that name that had her hackles going right up. It was a past that didn't belong to him anymore, and anger instantly filled her entire body. She stepped past Bucky and pointed a finger, jabbing it, hard, at the douchebag throwing out accusations.]

Keep your goddamn bigoted bullshit away from my fucking husband, dickstain. And maybe educate yourself on the shit that comes out of your mouth before someone else comes along and crams it back down there, along with your teeth. You can't see shit when your head is clearly so far up your goddamn ass.

[She poked again, hard enough to send the guy back a few feet.]

Trust me when I say that out of the two of us, the one with whom you do not want to be fucking with is me. So unless you want to find that out in the most painful way I can possibly imagine, go sit in the corner over there while we finish up here. What a dumbshit place to pick a fight. Do you know how many things in here I can use to make you regret you didn't leak down your mom's leg?

[ The guy is ready to open his mouth again to hurl some more insults, but he soon realizes that this might be a worse situation he got himself into than he imagined, when he gets shoved back by just a single finger.

He looks between the two of them with a snarl. ]

Freaks!

[He yells, tossing up a middle finger before he heads out the door, not looking to take on both of them, apparently. Which is good, because now Bucky's got his hand curled into a fist as well, ready to take the guy out if he had taken a step back toward Jess.]

[Yelled after him as she had to curl her own hands into fists to keep from going after him. It was stuff like that, behavior like that that got under her skin. The fact that it was directed at Bucky just made her want to draw blood. He didn't deserve that, and now she was worried he was going to be in his head about it. Couldn't even go to a goddamn sex store without some asshole bringing up a past that wasn't his, no matter what he said. Fucking HYDRA. She was more pissed at them than Fury, but Fury was easier for her to focus on because he kept sending Bucky out.

God help whatever HYDRA agent she ever got her hands on...

She turned back to him, reaching for his left hand with her right, fingers skimming over the back of it.]

We're good. It's all good. We're good, right?

[That last was said to the cashier, who had been watching the exchange with wide eyes, but who, after a moment, just blinked and nodded, then continued to package their things.]

He didn't come in and buy anything and he harassed our clientele. I'll pull up security and get a shot of him to ban him from the store. He started it. And for what it's worth... Thank you for your service.

[The last was said to Bucky with a somewhat determined look on her face as she ran Jessica's card through the reader, then held it out along with the bags.]

[ Bucky's heart is beating hard in his chest, but when Jessica's hand skims along his left, that's where his attention is drawn. He almost pulls away, just out of instinct, but instead he curls his hand around hers and nods, pulling her in closer. ]

Yeah, we're good.

[He says in a tone that isn't really good, but he doesn't want to do this here. He avoids looking at the cashier completely, until she tells them what she's going to do about the guy... then thanks him. At first he thinks she's thanking then for their purchase, but the look in her eyes says otherwise and he gives her a small, tight smile and a nod, taking the bags from her when they're handed out to them.]

[Jess lets him take the bags; it gives him something to focus on and that's good for now. Then she slips her credit card away, gives the girl a tight smile and a nod, then heads for the door. She goes first, because if dickshit is still out there, she planned on taking him for a high ride and leaving him to think about his life choices.]

Let's go for a walk. Get something to eat and take a minute before we go home.

[ Lucky for the dickshit he's not out there once they're outside. Bucky nods at her suggestion, then stops walking and tugs her in against him, wrapping his arms around her. ]

Hey- thanks for that. I didn't even know what to say, and-- You were truly incredible.

[She's surprised when he stops her, when he pulls her in, but there's a smile there, and she slides her arm around him in return, leaning in to kiss him.]

You haven't seen me when I really go all out. But don't thank me for that. I love you. I will always step between you and someone like that.

[ He kisses her back, then rests his forehead against hers. ]

I love you too- and I wanna thank you anyway because I really appreciate it, and I'm really lucky to have you.

Okay.

[She couldn't say more about that without getting into self depreciation territory, and she knew he wasn't up for that right then. She let her fingers skim over his face, feeling the rasp of his stubble against them.]

So, want coffee? Or something we can grab and munch on along the way?

[ He feels incredibly lucky- and for the first time in a long time he feels less alone. Of course he's felt less alone being with Jess all this time- but this is in a different kind of way.

He leans into her touch, kissing her again before he pulls back so they can keep walking. ]

Sure. We can grab a coffee.

[He doesn't think he can eat right now. He just needs a little time to get his head back in the right place again.]

Iced coffee. It's too hot to pretend otherwise.

[Her arm is hooked in his, and she glances up at the sky. It's a hot day, a great day, and she wasn't going to let one asshole ruin it for them.]

[He holds her arm tight against him as they walk- maybe tighter than usual. He's not gonna let one asshole ruin their day either, but it's hard not to let that shit get into his head.]

[She had a feeling that the mood they'd been in before could be brought back, but she'd have to be shocking again.]

So, what do you want to do first when we get home? Paint each other? Use the little dick sleeves? Or play with the vibe toys?

[ He glances at her, a small smile on his face. ]

Maybe the vibe toys. And the massage oil? That might be nice.

[They were walking past a place that didn't have a line, but she knew had both iced and hot coffee, and she gestured for him to go ahead of her.]

To start with.

[He is James Bucky Barnes. He is no longer the Winter Soldier, and he has a life with his beautiful wife, Jessica Jones. He's very much reminded of that when she gestures for him to go ahead and makes a comment about his butt. He smiles a little more at that, shaking his head as he goes in ahead of her, maybe with a little more swish to his hips to show his ass off for her.]

[The fact that he played along had her laughing, and she followed him in, coming in close to give his ass a playful squeeze.]

[ It's hard not to smile when she laughs, and it clears some of the cloudiness in his head. Moving an arm back around her, he squeezes her. ]

Glad you think so. Are you gonna get one of the super sweet frilly coffees?

Nope. Just a vanilla iced frappuccino. I'm a simple girl with simple tastes.

[Him being happy was where she wanted him, so she could relax her hold on jadedness and play nice.]

[He teases, but when he gets to the counter he orders two of them, cause hey why not. He might as well try a frappuccino too.]

[She snagged her drink when it came, slurping it at him and making a pleased sound. Because it was delicious, James.]

[He laughs, snagging his coffee as well, tasting it.]

[She watches him sip his, glad that he liked something as simple as a mixed iced coffee.]
