I'm almost afraid of what might happen if the two of them get in the same room.

Yeah...really? Why's that? Think they're gonna unload on each other about us?

Probably. We're the problems for them. And they can commiserate about what a pain in the ass we are. Then they'll be bffs and we'll have to tie them up and throw them in closets. It'll be a thing.

[It's nice to have that settled now, more than they did before. Especially now that they're up the elevator and heading down the hall to her place.]

[ He laughs a little at that, nodding as he slurps on the last of his frappucino. ]

[The door is unlocked and she steps in ahead of him, going over to set her drink down and shrug out of her jacket.]

Good. He can do with a little shaking up. The whole world can, for that matter. Give them time to figure out you're more than just their pet.

[ He heads inside with her, quiet at that for a long moment as he sets the bags on her desk and pulls his gloves off. ]

You know- I don't really mind the missions Fury sends me on. I'm not out there fighting this big fight with Captain America anymore, but at least it's- I don't know. Something small I can still do. They still need me.

[She sighed, folding her arms over her chest as she looked at him.]

There's a lot of things you can do that doesn't come with the guilt they like to lace their little 'requests' with. You can do a lot, James. Whatever you want. But they twist things to make it seem like they're doing you a favor by letting you work off your guilt with them. That's how I read it.

Well maybe they're right about that. I could be rotting in a prison hole right now but instead I'm here, getting to live my life. Did you see how that guy looked at me today? He wasn't wrong.

[She came over and cupped his face, both hands holding him there as she looked into those baby blues.]

Ignorant shitheads like that don't know the facts. They don't know that you were brainwashed. That you were a puppet. They don't know that any more than they know what happened to me with Kilgrave. You wanted to do what they made you do as much as I wanted to let him touch me. Or kill someone with my bare hands. People like that have the luxury of never having their free will ripped from them. I almost want to have the people judging you, the assholes like that and the 'gracious' people that 'let you' go undergo the same treatment. I want them broken, used and then I want them to go back to their lives with people looking at them like they had a choice.

[ He shakes his head, looking down, even as she cups his face. ]

I don't want that.

When they treat you like that? I do.

[She was the more vicious of the two of them and they both knew it. She would see them all burn, just to get a little of the torment he lived with that they kept saying was his own fault. She was spiteful.

She leaned in and kissed him slowly.]

They don't deserve you.

[ He knows how she feels. He's always known, and maybe he needs to feel some of that too, but he can't bring himself to do so. But maybe he's lucky to have someone in his life who does.

He kisses her back, winding his arms tight around her to pull her in close.]

[She felt his arms around her, grinning at him as she kissed him again.]
