[He's got bags and a drink in his hands, put he still tries to put an arm around her.]

[She gave him a suspicious sideways glance, but it was hard to keep it up, what with him being so earnest and all.]

You know, I'm noticing that a word has been suspiciously missing in this conversation...

[ He does raise his eyebrows a little at that, tilting his haed to look at her. ]

What haven't you called me yet?

[Not that she thought he objected to it, but he was the one that was more stuck in his past than she was.]

[ Well shit. Now his eyebrows are as high as they where when she told him she was gonna paint smiley faces on his balls. ]

[She kept her arm looped with his, smiling a little as they continued up the street, her building coming up soon.]

[He looks a little scandalized- at himself! That he hasn't said it before.]

Well, from now on that's all I'm gonna call you. My beautiful wife, do you want eggs for breakfast? My amazing wife, should we go do laundry together? My incredible wife, will you peg me harder?

[She had to laugh, head back as she shook it and nudged him before walking up to the door to open it to the building.]

I don't need that any more than you need me to call you my husband all the time. It's nice once in a while, though. And I'll peg you gently.

It is nice. I'll call you my wife every once in a while.

[He leans in to kiss her temple as they head inside, over to the elevators.]

I'm also gonna tell Sam. Like officially. And maybe he can come and be a witness when we get our official papers, if they need something like that. Maybe your friend Malcom, too.

I'm almost afraid of what might happen if the two of them get in the same room.

Yeah...really? Why's that? Think they're gonna unload on each other about us?

Probably. We're the problems for them. And they can commiserate about what a pain in the ass we are. Then they'll be bffs and we'll have to tie them up and throw them in closets. It'll be a thing.

...I guess maybe that wouldn't be so bad, right?

Depends on how you feel about them teaming up against us. Because they would definitely team up against us.

Or maybe they'd be really happy for us- and themselves because we're each other's problems now, not theirs?

Malcolm would be ecstatic. Not just because I'm someone else's problem, but he's weirdly worried about my romantic life.

[Probably still felt some kind of way about sleeping with Trish. That was on his plate, not hers.]

Well... no more worries, huh? Now you can even show him the ring.

[assholic]

I can. He's going to lose his mind. I don't know how your Sam will take it, but I think both of them would make good witnesses. Then we can go and do something for it. A little pub party or something. I don't really want or need a big thing, and I don't have a lot of people I'd want to come. Just you.

That's how I'd like it too. A little pub party- I think that would be great. Sam would probably love to come to something like that.

[It's nice to have that settled now, more than they did before. Especially now that they're up the elevator and heading down the hall to her place.]

He's gonna lose his mind seeing the ring too, I just know it.

You'd better show it to Fury, too. That way, he can't play surprised or baffled why I kick his ass if you come home bruised up.

[ He laughs a little at that, nodding as he slurps on the last of his frappucino. ]

Oh, I will. He'll probably be the most surprised outta anyone.

[The door is unlocked and she steps in ahead of him, going over to set her drink down and shrug out of her jacket.]

Good. He can do with a little shaking up. The whole world can, for that matter. Give them time to figure out you're more than just their pet.

[ He heads inside with her, quiet at that for a long moment as he sets the bags on her desk and pulls his gloves off. ]

You know- I don't really mind the missions Fury sends me on. I'm not out there fighting this big fight with Captain America anymore, but at least it's- I don't know. Something small I can still do. They still need me.

[assholic]

[She sighed, folding her arms over her chest as she looked at him.]

There's a lot of things you can do that doesn't come with the guilt they like to lace their little 'requests' with. You can do a lot, James. Whatever you want. But they twist things to make it seem like they're doing you a favor by letting you work off your guilt with them. That's how I read it.
