You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.

And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.

Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.

Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?

How to Play
1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference.
2. Comment to others.
3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you.

[Okay, now was the time for courage, Ryou. Just walk towards it, pick out the most... plain-looking book and then go to stationary. Just get this over with and they could get out of here. She swallowed. Might as well tell Suzaku if Lelouch hadn't. He deserved to know just as much as everyone else. And it wasn't fair to him to be guarding her uninformed as to why she was acting so oddly.]

...It was important. It still is, in a way.

[She takes a few steps towards the section, almost holding her breath.]

This... might seem like an odd question... but do you remember the ball about two months ago? A-and Lelouch and I had gone off somewhere together? [Who knows, maybe Suzaku remembered more of it than she did, since she didn't remember getting drunk that night, just the waking up with a hangover and in a stranger's bed with Lelouch.]

I remember it, yes. When I offered to come with the two of you, he ordered me to stay with his sister.

[Deliberately doesn't name her, in case there are prying ears. Lelouch might not be a common name, although it was becoming more popular since he had ascended the throne, but it was around enough that no one would know who they were talking about at first. Names of Kings tended to be like that.]

He was escorting you back to your room as far as I know. Did something happen?

[Of course, being in public reminded her that neither of them should be mentioning the names of the royals in such casual conversation, especially as if they personally knew them. It was probably dangerous to call Suzaku by his last name, since the name Kururugi was certainly well known with him being the Knight of Zero. Suzaku seemed like a more common name, Kururugi was not. Yet it felt a little bit off to be calling him by his first name, since she didn't know that much about him personally.]

...Something did happen that night. [She turned to looking at the floor, not wanting to meet his eyes. Steps closer to the section, people passing by briefly glancing at them but not paying much attention. Just a couple of crazy kids in love and on a date, perhaps?]

Neither of us are quite sure what happened though. I just remember... waking up in a stranger's bed with him, all of our clothes gone. [A pause.]

A-and a few weeks ago, I was... ill for a while, enough to warrant a doctor's visit. [And she's finally arrived. Oh how much she wants to just keep walking.]

It was the... diagnosis that had me so upset that day and wanting to see Lelouch...

[Suzaku's eyes widen as she beginnings her story only to narrow as she mentions that they woke up in a strangers bed together.]

I see. He has not mentioned anything about that to me.

[Although that might explain why Lelouch hadn't been in his rooms when he went to wake him the next day. Lelouch had told him that he had woken up early and Suzaku hadn't questioned it. Perhaps he should have.

At Ryou's next words, he pauses, glancing from her to the books she was standing in front of. It takes him a few minutes of glancing between her and the books before it finally sinks in what she was telling him.]

You're pregnant.

[She freezes at the word. It still makes her uneasy, hearing it acknowledged from someone else, as if she still can't believe it. Still, she's not falling apart like before when the subject is brought up, so she's a bit more comfortable with the idea. Somewhat, at least.]

W-we had hoped that nothing had happened and that we could forget that it had even happened. That it would just be a bad dream and wouldn't think much about it again. ...And it turns out we were wrong, apparently.

[She turns back to look back at the floor, not trying to meet his eyes again.]

I'm sorry, if this all seems so sudden. It's not exactly news I want to be shouting about, given the circumstances. You're actually the second person I've told about this, after Lelouch. I don't know if he's told... his sister about this yet, but, if he hasn't, I'll tell her the next time I see her.

Don't be. It explains a lot actually.

[And it does. Especially as to why Lelouch insisted that he go with her today on her outing. Lelouch was right, the palace was fortified and he had Kallen still hanging around, plus Gino, Jeremiah and the other Knights. Suzaku oversaw the Knights himself these days, so he knew exactly how well trained they were.

At the mention of Nunnally, he frowned.]

If she does, she hasn't let one that she does. I would ask him first, just to make sure. News like that, she'd want to hear it from the both of you, I would think.

[The more she thought about it, the more she realized that he was right. It might be better to tell Nunnally something this important with Lelouch rather than on their own. After that, she didn't really know who else to tell. In a few weeks time, if even that much, she wouldn't even have to tell people, they could just see for themselves. The people closest to Lelouch deserved the truth, at least.]

O-okay. I'll wait on telling her then...

[Giving the section one more quick glance, she picks out the most plain-looking book out of the bunch, one that wouldn't look too suspicious if she carried it around in the palace. But, just to be on the safe side, she headed towards the stationary section to find a cover for it. Can never be too careful with things like this.]

...I-if I'm boring you, you're more than welcome to say something...

She's rather perceptive, Ryou. He won't be able to hide it from her much longer if he is.

[He watches her for a long moment. At least she didn't chose What to Expect When You're Expecting, since that probably would have been a dead giveaway. Although...]

Have you checked his personal library? He might have some books in there left over from... before.

[Before meaning Charles. The man had had something 100+ consorts and how many children, surely there was a book lying around somewhere.]

Believe me, there is a hell of lot more things that I could be doing that are much more boring then this.

[Thinking about it now, there might have been at least one book like that in, now, Lelouch's library. The previous Emperor did have practically a small army of consorts and who knows how many children outside of Lelouch and Nunnally.]

[Though, the main reason that she has avoided the library was also the possibility of discovering personal notes from Charles, some that might either pertain to the Items, or just things that she was not meant to see. That was something she left for Lelouch to do on his own. She didn't know what the Spirit would do if he found those notes about the Items, if they were even in there.]

I... just never thought to ask him about it. [It was sort of the truth. Maybe. Kinda sorta.]

...What is that you do? If it's okay to talk about something like that. [A day in the life of the Knight of Zero, personal bodyguard to the Emperor. His life is probably a lot more exciting than hers.]

It couldn't hurt.

[There's a tilt of his head. There were many things that he couldn't speak of, in public at any rate.

But Ryou had every right to be curious, especially since Suzaku was already making plans to add her to the Knight's rotations. Lelouch had all but asked him, with that gesture this morning. Because of her current condition, she had been moved significantly up on the priority list, right after Nunnally.

Perhaps he would have to have a world with Kallen when he returned. Anya was mostly with Nunnally these days anyway and he knew that Kallen was already familiar with Ryou. Far better then he was at any rate.]

Keep him alive and from doing stupid things, mostly.

[It's said a bit jestingly, but it is the truth. As Lelouch's right hand man, he was the Emperor's sword, while C.C. was his shield. Both would give their all to protect the man who had become one of the most important people in the world.

... it was rather sobering to think about, that the fate of the world rested with a bunch of teenagers and an immortal witch.]

[It was more to make small talk than any curiosity. Whenever she saw him, he always seemed so serious about everything. She wasn't exactly a social butterfly either or anything, but she did wonder what Suzaku was like when he wasn't on duty, when he didn't have to have to wear such a serious face. Or maybe that's just how he always was. She certainly didn't know.]

Certainly sounds like the regular duties of a best friend. [She did know that Lelouch and Suzaku were best friends from childhood, so it was partially the truth with a slight twist of humor. The people around them certainly didn't know how deeply the meaning of his words ran.]

[And, finally, she found the stationary section; something that she was much more comfortable in and at ease. She didn't have to hide what she was looking at here. It did have its themes and such, but it wasn't exclusive to motherhood and babies, something she took comfort in. Now to choose what kind of cover she wants for her book...]

Oh, you have no idea. I started doing it when we were kids at the shrine.

[Because Lelouch had been so pathetic then. Pathetic... but proud. And Suzaku couldn't deny that Lelouch and Nunnally were probably the only kids who hadn't been frightened of him.

And he couldn't deny that in some weird, strange, twisted way that was purely Lelouch, the other had been trying to protect him, even as Zero. Even if he was forever stuck with that damned 'live on' geass.]

What exactly are you looking for?

[Oh, he grew up in a shrine? That actually sounds kind of cool. See, she's learning things about him.]

[And, of course, Lelouch never seemed to be athletically inclined, so she figured that had at least stemmed from childhood. It was a wonder he never outgrew that. Who knew.]

The two of you must be really close then. [It made her kind of envious, since she really didn't have any close friends, especially to the level of bond that Lelouch, Nunnally, and Suzaku seemed to share. The closest thing she had was her little sister, Amane. She was her best friend, until an accident early on in the war. But that was a sad time, and she wasn't here to be sad about things in the past.]

I'm looking for a cover, maybe something with a nice solid color, or even a small, simple pattern. [She's not overly girly, but she likes some girly-ness in her things.]

[He shrugs with a shoulder. It's not something he wants to go into - considering how much they had used and betrayed each other. Lelouch with Euphemia and Suzaku by selling him out to the Emperor in order to become a Knight of the Round.

It was complicated between them, to be honest.]

Ah. So no one finds out what you're reading.

[He leans back for a moment, watching her.]

You do realize that there is going to come a point when neither of you will be able to hide it.

[She knows. Boy, does she know it. It was hard enough to hide it with being sick in the morning and having so many food and smell aversions right now, it was a wonder no one asked her why she could only want bland crackers and toast most of the time.]

...I know. But, right now, I'd prefer if only certain people know. I don't even know what I'm going to say if a random person asks me who the father is. [She just can't come out and say it's the child of the Emperor of Britannia. And she certainly didn't want to say that they didn't have a father. She wouldn't be able to handle that reaction too well.]

Of course.

[He bows his head slightly, the closest he can get to any sort of formal bow while incognito and in public.]

That is something else that you're going to have to talk to him about, Ryou. Because it's going to become a lot more obvious in the future. Especially around home.

[And he's not talking about the stomach, he's talking about the amount of protection she's going to be receiving. THAT is going to be even more noticeable, especially when people start to realize it would be the Knights of the Round.]

[As with her being part Japanese, she understood a bit about the language of bows and nods of the head. So, him doing that towards her caused a slight blush, since no one had been so formal like that towards her. She's not used to that kind of special treatment.]

[Of course, she thinks that he means that, since she is somewhat close to Lelouch, people would start to get a little suspicious once the pregnancy becomes more noticeable. The protection thing never really crossed her mind, even though she is carrying the child of the Emperor. Since she was more used to the brutal style of the Spirit's 'protection,' the thought of 'normal' protection would probably surprise her.]

Of course it's going to be obvious. That's how these things usually go, right? [As if she knew much about pregnancy and how it worked anyway. Just don't call her fat. She might start crying about it.]

[Speaking of the protection, she didn't know how much Suzaku knew about her and why Lelouch has kept her around for so long. Surely he's at least curious about that. Did he even know she had the Ring? She clutched her bag a bit tighter in response. She has taken to not wearing while she still has the baby within her. She knows that her body changes slightly when he takes over, so she didn't want to risk the baby being harmed. Didn't mean that she didn't keep it close by.]

Well, yes, but...

[He lets his voice trail off as he tries to find some way to explain it to her.]

Let's just say that if I had a list of priorities, you've just jumped several spots.

[No, that was one thing that Lelouch had kept to himself. Suzaku, himself, really had no idea why Ryou was still around, but he knew that if she was, there was a reason for it. Lelouch hardly did anything without thinking about twenty steps ahead and Suzaku had come, in time, to trust his friend on things like this.

And tease him, when the situation called for it, of course.]

[O-oh, so that's what he meant. Carrying the Emperor's child would, of course, make her more of a target, she figured. As if she wasn't one already with being the Ring's host. Her position now would inevitably make her a target for higher ups now, not just the thugs or nut jobs that wanted the Ring.]

O-oh, I see.

[Did Suzaku even know about the Items? She debated on telling him, to let him know that, sometimes, she was dangerous to be around. She certainly didn't want him to get hurt because of her. But it's also certainly something she doesn't want to discuss in a public place like this, where someone was bound to overhear. She will tell him, eventually, just not here. She didn't even know if the palace was a safe place to discuss it either, since no one really knew she had it there, only Lelouch. It was the only one she knew of, at least.]

[Picking up a cover with a small print on it, she moved toward the notebooks, looking at the ones with large numbers of pages and with a sturdy backing. She writes in journals everyday, and since she never went anywhere without them, she needed something that will last her a while.]

Just one more thing, and then we can go back. [Such a small and boring shopping trip, Ryou. Clearly, you're not using Suzaku to his full potential here.]

[He's glad that she understands without him having to explain. He doesn't want to scare her when she suddenly notices a guard accompanying her every single times she steps outside.]

This is the only place you wanted to go today?

[Clearly, he thought women were much more into shopping then this. He had expected that he was going to spend the whole day accompanying her all over the place.]

[Who do you think she is, Milly?]

My interests are a little... simple. So long as I have something to write in, I'm happy. Milly's usually the one dragging me to clothing boutiques and such. Something along the lines of 'You're around a lot of important people now, so you should dress to impress.' [Yeah, that went over really well.]

B-besides, I kind of like quieter places and outings like this. The boutiques always seem so loud and crowded and always rushing about. I don't really like it when so many people are staring at me. [And you're a dude, Suzaku, in case you hadn't noticed. She doesn't need another guy seeing her naked. It'd probably make her head explode with embarrassment or something.]

[Well, his experience with girls was limited to his cousin, Nunnally, Euphie, Cecile and the student council. And now Ryou.]

That sounds like something she would say. And when she gets an idea in her head, she's rather bull headed about it.

[Which explains how Lelouch had ended up in that dress.]

I don't blame you for that, honestly. It's rather nice to be able to get out and not be noticed.

[Not that he wasn't doing his job, of course, but still...]

[Of course he was doing his job. She felt that he was doing a great job, even though this was the first time she's been out with a bodyguard. She didn't really know what to expect him to do, per se. But he was doing a good job, as far as she knew. Good job, Suzaku. Thumbs up.]

She wants me to take me on a shopping trip within the next few days. Just a heads up. [So, if you have any plans to send out bodyguards with her, now you have time to choose one for her.]

She want to find clothes that I'll be more... comfortable in in the coming months. [AKA, you better get out of that while you still can. She doesn't want to subject you that kind of torture. She can't get out of it, of course, but she's trying to drag as few people down with this as possible.]

Not being noticed is something I usually strive for whenever I go out on my own. [Speaking of not being noticed, there were some unsavory looking gentlemen outside that seem to recognize the white-haired girl as the one that had been responsible for the death of a few of their numbers. Burned one from the inside out, the rest in comas. They weren't going to let her get away with that, clearly. Just going to wait until she comes out and then jump her. She wouldn't even know what hit her.]

[It takes him a moment to process what she's telling him, before he looks at her.]

I'll take that as a warning, then.

[He would if he could, believe him. But she got herself in deep with Emperor Overprotective, so the most he could possibly do is find a Knight that Ryou would be comfortable with, if it didn't up being himself.

Yeah, he really needed to have that conversation with Lelouch and Kallen.

Suzaku nods in agreement, while casting his eyes once more around them. Everyone in the shop itself seem so to be minding their own business, but that's not what draws his attention. It's the group that's loitering around outside, casting a glance in their direction every so often. Trying not to alarm Ryou, he reaches out with a hand and touches her wrist, waiting for her to turn to him before he can lean down and lower his voice so only she can hear.]

Don't look, but we've seem to have caught someone's attention.

[She was closely examining a journal with a sturdy looking cover when she felt that touch on her wrist. She looked up to see what he wanted, but then saw his face incredibly close to hers. Her first instinct was to move away, not wanting someone that close in her personal space. His words, however, made her pause. They had gotten someone's attention? And here she thought being quiet and minding their own business wouldn't get them noticed. She goes back to looking at her book, pretending to be interested in looking through it, but her voice lowers as well.]

...Is there a way we can sneak past them, or is there another way out of here? [She didn't want trouble today, from either thugs or the Spirit. Clearly, that wasn't going to happen now.]
