THE SICK DAY MEME

► They are now, for some odd reason, sick (headache, fever, runny nose, cough, whatever you want).
► Another character replies and is struck with the sudden urge to take care of them (bringing them soup, extra blankets, Sudafed, sexual healing, what have you).

He gives Ludwig a look that all but screams 'Are you fucking kidding me?' before finally replying, "Nope. No needles. I'd rather die." Huff! Can't you get his blood without needles? He's absolutely terrified! Surely this is bad for his health! Gil crosses his arms stubbornly, moving away from the nurse, and also Ludwig.

Ludwig sighed. He hoped not to do this. Prepare yourself brother. He moves so that he's between Gilbert and the door and approaches his brother, ready to lunge and grab him if he continues to try to flee.

The nurse is just getting out of the way when Gilbert bolts for the door and is, predictably, caught by his brother. "Let go of me! Let go!" The struggling is epic, and perhaps if he weren't weak from being ill, would actually succeed in freeing him. Unfortunately for Gilbert, he is rather weakened. "You can't do this! I have rights!"

He realizes his older brother is pretty much a baby. He makes sure to hold him tight and carries him to the exam table where he sits with his legs locked around Gilbert's to prevent him from kicking the nurse and his arms holding his brother.

Even as weak as Gilbert was from illness, its remarkable how strong he still is and is difficult to hold onto. He's reciting the parts of a VW Beetle in a soothing voice.

"Let go! I swear to God you'll regret this! I'll throw you out a second-story window! I'll change the locks while you're at work! I'll get a restraining order! Now let me go! You can't make me have anything done without my permission! It's illegal! Nuuuurse tell him you're not allowed 'cause it's illegal!" The entire time he's yelling and complaining, he's still trying to fight his way free, even if he's tiring quickly and looks like he might throw up at any second.

The nurse is, understandably, very nervous. On the one hand, she is pretty certain she can't stick Gilbert if he says no. On the other hand... Ludwig is a terrifyingly large and strong Alpha, and her first instinct is to do as he says. And the doctor did order the bloodwork to be done quickly, so it must be very important... "I... I'll be done before you know it, Mr Beilschmidt. It won't hurt. I promise."

"Gilbert, shh... you're scaring the other patients and not being very awesome," he said. There was something that should catch Gilbert's attention. "Also, that kind of law is in place for surgery and procedures like that, not for routine tests such as blood work."

So, yes, the nurse could draw the blood, since it was required to find out what was wrong with Gilbert. He is not looking forward to the IV that he knows will come when they realize just how dehydrated his brother is.

"You can't do this to me! I don't care, let me go!" No matter how non-threatening the nurse seemed before, so long as Ludwig is this complicit in her attacking him with that needle, he is going to growl and snarl at her. Perhaps even snap with his teeth if she gets anywhere near close enough. Of course, if she does stay back, he is going to try to twist around to bite his brother instead. Some protector Ludwig turned out to be if he's helping these bastards! (Never mind Gilbert gets blood drawn fairly regularly at the endocrinologists. That's different. He knows when that's coming, for one, and can usually take a sedative beforehand.)

Failure, trying to get his brother to recognize how much of a baby he's being didn't work. He turns to the nurse, "He's severely dehydrated, too, and unable to keep liquids down. Why don't you consult with the doctor for a moment and we can hope he calms down enough in the meantime."

He hopes the nurse chooses to do so, as his plans to calm his brother down involve showing affection of the non-brotherly sort, and while she is confident that they're mates and not brothers. He'd fill better if they aren't discussed around the water cooler.

The nurse nods, mentioning something about how she'll see if maybe they can't administer a mild sedative, and all but bolts from the room. Can you blame her? She's used to tiny babies, not adults!

Gilbert calms down some as soon as the nurse leaves, but he is still a tightly wound springcoil of tension restrained in Ludwig's arms. He huffs, glaring after the nurse's retreating back. "She is not sticking me, now or ever! And you're a liar because it is too against the law! We call it assault where I'm from; but I guess going after someone with a sharp object is perfectly legal in stupid knothead land?!"

"Gilbert, shh~ she's not trying to hurt you. No one is. The faster they get the blood they need for testing, the faster you'll get better. I want you well so you can live up to those threats of yours," he speaks in a concerned sounding voice and nuzzles his brother's ear.

"Oh no you don't. I'll castrate you. Now let go." Grrrr. Why are you nuzzling him, Luddy? He is pissed off and wants to cut your balls off. Maybe he isn't the one who needs medical attention here.

He kisses the side of Gilbert's face. "Please calm down, love, you're going to get sicker." He never uses terms of endearment, other than Brother, but he's trying to prove to Gilbert that he does love him and only wants what is best for him.

"Touch me again and I won't wait til we get home, brother." This is a hospital. Surely he can find a blade here somewhere. Sorry Ludwig, your mate is less than pleased with you at the moment. "If you go away when she's done, I'll let her stick me."

"Are you sure you want me to go away?" he asks. He's just concerned, but he'll take all of his brother's venom.

[garantundkraft]

"I have never been more sure of anything in my life," he growls. Ugh. And he was willing to get pregnant for you, bro. Yeah, he's not feeling even half so generous any more. (Little does he know it's a bit late for that regret.)

[vereinigt]

"If you're sure, I'll wait in the hall once you've had your blood work done," he's not going to argue. He knows his brother will cool down eventually and forgive him.

[garantundkraft]

"Question me again and I'm going back on the old suppressant!" There is no forgiveness. Only Zuul. There is, however, an overwhelming feeling of betrayal and fear, because he thought Ludwig would listen to him and protect him, not restrain him so he couldn't even protect himself.

He's more certain that his initial hypothesis was correct since mood swings were always a mentioned side effect of pregnancy. He was and was not looking forward to his brother wanting peanut butter and pickles at three o'clock in the morning.

"If I release you will you lay down?" he's really concerned that Gilbert is just going to pass out.

Good thing he does not mention this aloud, because Gilbert would verbally bite his head off about how this is not a damn mood swing, and let's find out how Ludwig likes being forcibly restrained so someone can attack him with something he fears.

But since all he's aware of is what his brother actually says, all he responds with is a growled out, "Sure. Whatever. Fuck off."

He slowly releases Gilbert, ready to grab him again if he doesn't keep his end of the bargain. He knows his brother isn't feeling well, he's trying to be not only a good Alpha, but a good brother, it was just difficult.

Gilbert just pushes away so he can lay on the bed heavily, rolling so his back is to his brother. He hates this. He doesn't want or need anyone to play Alpha to him. He can handle himself just fine! He just needs to stop freaking out over being sick. That's all.

He moves to stand near his brother, ready to restrain him if needed, but hoping he won't have to. "I love you, brother, you're the most amazing person in the world to me."

He hates sounding sappy, but he wants his brother to know he was only doing this because he loved him.

He doesn't care how petty or petulant he sounds, but the only response he has to that is a quiet, "I hate you."

Soon enough the nurse returns, apologetic because they can't administer a sedative if he's as badly dehydrated as Ludwig suggests. Gilbert doesn't even twitch at that news.

He'll let his brother be petulant if he needs to. He's not going to stop loving him for all the world.

He nods to the nurse and moves closer to Gilbert petting his head. He fishes around for a conversation topic. "Is there a movie coming out you want to see, Gilbert?"

Gilbert rolls onto his back so the nurse can draw his blood easier. The sooner she finishes, the sooner Ludwig leaves. Though it annoys him that his brother is petting him, so he tries to bat his hand away while keeping his other arm still as the nurse swabs it clean. In response to the question? The absolute rudest hand gesture Gil knows. Of course.
