He first moves the pillows as requested and then hands over the envelope. Afterwards he unzips the backpack, there are clothes in there along with a bag of toiletries and a familiar glasses case which is removed and handed to Gilbert. Yes, he thought of everything, even made and printed a checklist.

Good brother, best mate. He didn't even think of most of those items, but they are very welcome. He'd kiss Ludwig, but that's a lot of motion. Instead he just pushes the button to raise the head of the bed into a sitting position, puts on his glasses, and opens the folder. The documents inside all look rather official, and there are several print-outs that appear to be some sort of regulations.

"In here is everything I need to fill out for you to have rights to your kid without me saying anything that will get you arrested and me sent to psychological counseling." Gilbert sifts through the papers until he finds the one that summarises the law in question. That one he hands over. "Technically that law was never intended for a situation where the Omega deliberately intended to sign over parental rights, but the law doesn't specifically prohibit it. I'd need to talk to a lawyer to know how to phrase things to make the process as quick as possible, but..." The only question is, would Ludwig even agree to the idea? Gilbert genuinely would rather, if only one of them can have parental rights, it be Ludwig. If their positions were reversed, for instance, Gil would have only thought to bring exactly what he was told. (Of course, Ludwig likely would have provided a complete list, but that's another point to why his brother would be the better parent!)

He reads through the page summarizing the law in question. He wasn't a lawyer by any stretch of the imagination, but it did seem to be solid. "Are you sure? If you do this, you will officially have no rights. Not, that I wouldn't value your input in caring for and raising him or her."

He blushes because he wants Gilbert involved.

"Lutz. You're the one who's always wanted a kid. Not me. Besides, I'd be the worst father. Get a call from school saying, 'Uh, Mr Beilschmidt, your son has a beer in his lunch' and I'd go, 'Oh shit! I gave him my lunch!' or... I dunno, kid would end up in the hospital and I'd be standing there clueless when they ask me questions." Gilbert laughs, the consonants of it echoing a little in the rather spartan room. "I mean, I like kids, but. I'm happier knowing someone responsible is in charge."

Not that he can't learn to be responsible with children if he tried, but such a thing is so low on his list of priorities even with a baby growing inside him as he speaks, he has no desire to be. Not when he knows Ludwig is more than responsible enough for the both of them.

"You're more responsible than you give yourself credit for, but I will accept the responsibility."

He's going to be a dad. He's going to be a dad! HE'S GOING TO BE A DAD!!!!

Nothing could stop him from being excited by the prospect. He gives Gilbert a tender and happy look before moving on to the next subject.

He coughed lightly in his hand, growing more embarrassed as he looked at the door to make sure no nurse was looking in on them. Once he was certain they did have privacy he dropped his voice. "There's something, I wanted to ask you..." and he's having trouble actually coming out and say it. Yep, he's blushing more than he did after their first time together.

Ah, that happy look is so worth it! He will lock the memory of that away tight somewhere so he can think fondly on it later when he's experiencing firsthand how much pregnancy sucks. As his brother blushes and looks towards the door, Gil puts his folder back in proper order and sets it aside, making a mental note to tell Ludwig to take it home when he leaves.

When his mate speaks, Gil looks over at him. The blush is adorable, but his tone is so low and serious. If it's something he doesn't want overheard... Well. Lutz has his undivided attention. "Yeah, Lutz? What is it?"

He might as well be asking Gilbert to marry him for all the stuttering that occurs as he tries to ask the question.

"Would you... would you...would, er, you please..." in the space of three minutes he manages to finally move on to the third word of the question. "Please, please, er, please moveintomyroomwithme?"

Once the word please is out the rest of the question comes as a single breath. He's not even sure if Gilbert understood it.

He blinks and stares at Ludwig as he tries to process that question. Finally, he gives the most eloquent response he can, given the circumstances. "Huh?!"

He blushes again and takes several deep breathes. Because he said it once the words come easier and less stuttery or rushed. "Will you move into my room with me?"

"I... Uh... But what about my nest?" The idea sounds appealing, really it does, but his instincts are telling him that he can't possibly move his nest now. Besides, his room is the darkest in the upstairs part of the house, which was why he chose it. It's perfect to set up a nest and then maybe a crib once the baby is big enough to be away from him at ni-

...Okay, right. "I mean, that's a great idea. You c-can start moving my things in..."

"I'll be sure to make the best nest," he said. He could tell, there were secret maternal instincts showing through, but don't worry, he won't force you to acknowledge them.

"No you won't! You don't know how! I mean, you put the big pillow on the side closest the door, and that's all wrong! Where do you even put the base of the nest, huh? Tell me!" He doesn't even know where all this is coming from, or how he knows that it's wrong to put the bulkiest stuff near the entrance. He just does. No one explains this shit in health class or anything, either! Maybe kids with Omega parents are told, but their parents were an Alpha and a Beta...

He gives his brother a bewildered look before pulling a notepad and pin from the backpack... seriously did he somehow fit the entire house in there? And wrote down, "Bulky stuff away from the door." For an Omega that protested being called a Mother, his brother certainly had a enlarged nesting instinct. And yes, he's going to take down notes on the subject.

He's male. Men are fathers and husbands, not mothers and wives, and he loves women, really, but don't insinuate that he is one, damnit. The notebook and pen get a withering glare, as though he could set them on fire with his mind. That isn't an answer to his question! "Seriously? You're gonna take notes on this? I..." Gilbert almost launches into trying to explain how the nest should be based on the mental image that comes to mind of an ideal, cozy nest, but he stops. Frowns. "I'm sure you can find a book on it. It's not important, though. If you just figure out which room you want for the nursery and all it's not like we need one."

He would cross his arms stubbornly but for the IV he has in one elbow, but accept the sulkish look as a facial interpretation of that body language. It's stupid to get worked up over a nest! They don't need one. Plenty of babies do just fine with cribs and nurseries and such, so it's not like they need to have a perfect nest, or even one at all. Maybe if he were some stupid, emotional breeder, but he's a man of logic. Why waste time and energy on a nest?

He sees through his brother's tsuning. He knows Gilbert wants to nest, and he finds the idea of being in a nest with his pregnant mate to be comforting. So, he's going to build the best nest. "I will get more pillows. Would an airbed be better than the matress?"

He'll also draw up plans for a nursery, even if he has to give up his office for it.

"I don't know! Whatever you want. It's stupid to build a nest! We're only gonna take it apart when the kid needs a room anyways, since we won't be using it again." He huffs, running his hand through his hair. This is exactly why he'd planned on getting pregnant later, so he had time to ready himself. Instead, he feels like his own brain is against him, because underneath everything that doesn't care and is genuinely disgusted with the whole thing, there is a tiny -but loud!- part that is screaming at him to build a proper nest and what are you doing letting an Alpha have free reign you idiot.

Gilbert could fix the nest if it doesn't meet his expectations. But he will build the best nest possible because he's super enthusiastic about this.

"I'm going to need to call your doctor, anything you want me to let them know?" Because with Gilbert in the hospital, he won't make the appointment in the morning.

Groan. Why does he get the impression that everything he says that doesn't line up with Ludwig's expectations of fatherhood and being a good mate are going to go in one ear and out the other. He hides his face with one hand. "That I really wish she'd talked me out of this stupid idea? I dunno..." He makes a frustrated noise. "I don't feel like myself. Ask if they can fix that." How is he going to explain this at work? Again, he'd anticipated having time.

"Are you gonna leave now?"

One thing at a time, he wants to make sure his brother is healthy and safe first before he deals with other things. "I think you're more yourself than you usually are, you're just showing a part of yourself that you rarely do."

"Is there a window in this room." He knows the answer is yes. He just wants to remind Ludwig of that fact. Really. Why does his brother keep insisting that all this stupid Omega bullshit is him. It's so obviously not that he can't even laugh; just feel sick to his stomach despite the medicine. "Hand me that little empty tub there, will you." It was actually left by the nurse for him to throw up into, so...

He picks up the bucket and brings it to Gil all the while speaking.

"I'm not saying that's all you are. I'm well aware that you're not a stereotypical Omega. I'm just saying, that it is a part of you and you can let it show from time to time."

"But I don't want it to be a part of me! I hate it! It makes me sick!" ...Stupid anti-nausea medication. He really would have liked to be able to punctuate that point with a bit of vomit. "You know that!" In defeat, he just fidgets with the tub. Fine. No dramatic retching. Stupid traitorous stomach.

"Do you want me to rub your stomach?" he asks. It was supposed to help with nausea. And he does want to touch his mate's stomach, because OhMyGod baby!

...The only, and he means only, reason why that tub isn't hurtling through the air towards Ludwig's face is because he doesn't need anyone thinking he's just having mood swings. "Did you even hear a word I said other than sick?!"

"Yes I heard you, I also read that it helps against nausea," he blushes.
