The Witch's Curse


A fantasy AU meme where witches are real, and they are vengeful. Specify your character's role: the witch (or sorcerer), the subject of the curse, or the curse breaker. Tag around and pick or RNG a curse.

1: Change of Form: human turned animal, mythical beast turned human, human turned inanimate object, human made older/younger, the possibilities are endless

2: Obeisance: you are now cursed to follow the witch's every command and it's useless to resist, or perhaps you simply have to obey every command given you no matter who gives it

3: Curse of Sleep: like princesses before you, you are cursed to sleep for all eternity, or at least until your one true love finds you

4: Possession: be it a demon or any other kind of spirit, your body is no longer your own

5: Isolation: some witches use towers, others use forests of thorns, but either way the message is clear-- you are never seeing the outside world again

6: Resurrection: even death is not an escape from the witch's power, for some can raise the dead

7: Bad Luck: some curses are more minor, only causing you to stub your toe or drop your books, but they're still annoying

8: Defects: you weren't turned to an inhuman shape, but were somehow made hideous, clumsy, or repellent in some way-- maybe you smell terrible, or maybe people who get near you just feel uneasy and want to leave

9: Wounds: you have a wound that simply won't heal-- maybe it's slowly killing you, maybe it's just annoying, but it's not going away

10: Monster Magnet: wherever you go you're always being attacked by creatures, demons or monsters or ghosts, etc, that want to kill you

11: Never to Meet: you become an animal during the day while your true love is human, then you switch forms at night, so you can never both be human at the same time again

12: Death: your death is approaching and you need to find a way to avert it or remove the curse entirely

13: Objectification: you didn't avoid the death curse, and now your soul is bound to an inanimate object, perhaps to provide more power for the witch, to bind a spell to the object and give it power, or maybe just so you can't move on to your next life

14: Cursed Object: maybe it wasn't the witch themselves, but something that used to belong to a witch that put the curse on you, and now you must find a witch who can remove the curse

15: Cursed Ground: your house is built somewhere it really should not have been, and now you have to deal with ghosts or demons or the undead, which will really ruin your property value

16: Wildcard: choose your own adventure!

Yeah, of course... [ That seems reasonable ] It just slipped my mind before. We'll have to get it all down from the high shelf. Didn't want to set a bad example.

[She doesn't ask what he worries he'd set a bad example of, or what danger a child might get in with his comm.]

[elcapitan]

[ He nods, but falls silent as he returns to rollirolling things around in his head. ]

It can't have been that long.

I lost my phone in the forest, or I'd let you check on that.

[Her voice is serious, though, firm. She's not backing down on this one.]

It's August third today, as I count it. We lost you in June.

[elcapitan]

[ he stops moving then, staggering. ]

But it's April. April 23rd. Her birthday is tomorrow.

That's not possible...

[Neither timeline allows for it to be April. If it really is, then she's been lost here months and months as well. Either that, or some kind of time travel has happened. They're out of their own timeline entirely.

But time had passed while Steve was gone.]

We need to get out of here, Steve. We need to radio out, and then we need to leave.

[elcapitan]

[There's also the possibility that Steve's peception of dates is as muddy as most of what he's said already.]

We can't leave without her. She'll be all by herself. I'm the only person she's got.

[outstandingbalance]

[None of these possibilities are okay. None of them. But Natasha retreats, going back to the last plan. Radio, then face the witch.]

All right, all right. But I still want to meet her.

[As they come across a clearing, they'll find a modest cottage. There's a girl standing in the doorway, a hand gripping the frame. Her eyes narrow at Natasha's presence.]

I didn't think we were expecting visitors.

well i'm not surprised

I would have called ahead, but I couldn't get through.

[Cautiously, glancing from Steve to the girl. The threat coming off of her is palpable to Natasha at least.]

A friend of mine went missing. I had to check it out.

[Steve visibly relaxes in her presence, arms dropping limply at his sides. The girl keeps her focus riveted on Natasha, dark doe eyes boring into her.]

We're all lost here. That's why we have to be a family.

[outstandingbalance]

[It's unsettling. Natasha shakes her head. She's been lost a long time. She's not looking for that kind of family, and she doesn't like what she sees in Steve.]

Some of us have people waiting outside. We need to get back to them.

[projecthydra]

[Her little mouth turns downward in a frown.]

Oh. That sounds nice.

[outstandingbalance]

It is. [Natasha thinks so, anyway.] So you understand why we have to go.

[She shrinks back into the dark home, looking small and fragile.]

Everyone leaves. Don't see why Steve would be different.

[His eyes widen, and he bursts away from Natasha, suddenly desperate to console her. He'll kneel down to her level and draw her into a hug, stroking her hair.]

No, Sweetie. It's not like that at all. I'm not going anywhere, just like I promised.

[outstandingbalance]

Steve, we can't stay here. We can't. You know that.

[projecthydra]

[She'll curl up in Steve's arms, but shoot Natasha a dark glare.]

She wants to take you away from me. Why does she hate me so much?? I didn't do anything wrong.

[outstandingbalance]

I don't hate you. But I can't let you kidnap a superhero.

[His voice is firm.]

She's just a little girl.

A little girl who has the power to keep you here for months without realizing it. You haven't even been in contact.

[elcapitan]

And we still haven't. Things come up.

[He rubs her back to soothe her.]

Scaring her isn't going to change any of it.

[outstandingbalance]

I haven't done anything to scare her, Rogers. I've just laid it out there. We need to leave. I'm not going anywhere without you.

So then... You're gonna stay with us too?

[Because nobody's leaving. Nobody.]
