The Witch's Curse


A fantasy AU meme where witches are real, and they are vengeful. Specify your character's role: the witch (or sorcerer), the subject of the curse, or the curse breaker. Tag around and pick or RNG a curse.

1: Change of Form: human turned animal, mythical beast turned human, human turned inanimate object, human made older/younger, the possibilities are endless

2: Obeisance: you are now cursed to follow the witch's every command and it's useless to resist, or perhaps you simply have to obey every command given you no matter who gives it

3: Curse of Sleep: like princesses before you, you are cursed to sleep for all eternity, or at least until your one true love finds you

4: Possession: be it a demon or any other kind of spirit, your body is no longer your own

5: Isolation: some witches use towers, others use forests of thorns, but either way the message is clear-- you are never seeing the outside world again

6: Resurrection: even death is not an escape from the witch's power, for some can raise the dead

7: Bad Luck: some curses are more minor, only causing you to stub your toe or drop your books, but they're still annoying

8: Defects: you weren't turned to an inhuman shape, but were somehow made hideous, clumsy, or repellent in some way-- maybe you smell terrible, or maybe people who get near you just feel uneasy and want to leave

9: Wounds: you have a wound that simply won't heal-- maybe it's slowly killing you, maybe it's just annoying, but it's not going away

10: Monster Magnet: wherever you go you're always being attacked by creatures, demons or monsters or ghosts, etc, that want to kill you

11: Never to Meet: you become an animal during the day while your true love is human, then you switch forms at night, so you can never both be human at the same time again

12: Death: your death is approaching and you need to find a way to avert it or remove the curse entirely

13: Objectification: you didn't avoid the death curse, and now your soul is bound to an inanimate object, perhaps to provide more power for the witch, to bind a spell to the object and give it power, or maybe just so you can't move on to your next life

14: Cursed Object: maybe it wasn't the witch themselves, but something that used to belong to a witch that put the curse on you, and now you must find a witch who can remove the curse

15: Cursed Ground: your house is built somewhere it really should not have been, and now you have to deal with ghosts or demons or the undead, which will really ruin your property value

16: Wildcard: choose your own adventure!

Natasha, you have to stop.

We shouldn't get out. And if you keep thinking that, she's going to know and then you're going to get punished for it.

I'm not afraid of being punished. I'm afraid of forgetting I don't belong here.

[He frowns.]

I don't -- know what you're talking about. We're a family. We have a happy home.

[And it makes him incredibly dizzy to say that.]

We don't have a home.

[Natasha doesn't. She never has.]

[elcapitan]

... I need to sit down.

[It's too confusing, and things feel like they've been extraordinarily intense for hours now. He staggers to the doorway, reaching out to lean on something.]

I don't think there's time, Steve.

[elcapitan]

No -- we need to. We'll talk about this together. We'll stay and we'll talk. We're a family. We can work through this.

[outstandingbalance]

Are we? [She's trying very hard to hold onto the understanding that what's happening here is wrong. This isn't what they're supposed to be doing.]

[elcapitan]

Of course we are. Now come on. We'll eat something and calm down, and then we'll go back to taking care of her. Nobody has to leave.

[outstandingbalance]

But you were thinking of leaving. That's why she punished you. [She has to keep that straight in her head.] If we go back she'll punish me too.

[elcapitan]

If you were thinking like that, maybe you need the punishment to help you learn.

[Isn't that what punishments are supposed to accomplish?]

[Natasha backs up two steps, taken off guard by his answer.]

That's not right, is it?

[elcapitan]

Look, I'm not saying it was pleasant. But... I feel so much better now. I can't even remember what I was so nervous about in the first place. It's not like we're trapped here.

[outstandingbalance]

But what if you were right to start with? What if it's only less confusing now because you stopped fighting?

[elcapitan]

If it was right, I wouldn't have had to go into time out.

[How can she argue with such flawless logic?]

[outstandingbalance]

Steve. [She sounds hurt, like she expected an ally in him. Maybe like she needed him to help clear her head too.] His isn't right. Please, just... we need to go.

[elcapitan]

Look. Maybe we just need to talk it out. You're upset, and it'll just bother her right now. Let's go talk around the garden?

[ they can go outside without leaving. It seems like a fair compromise. ]

[outstandingbalance]

[Natasha hesitates, but only briefly. It does seem like a fair compromise.]

I could use the air. I am confused.

[elcapitan]

[ He reaches out to take her hand in an intimate gesture. They're parents, aren't they? They should be able to interact with one another, right?

Are they married? He doesn't remember getting married. ]

[outstandingbalance]

[Natasha slides her hand into his. She cares for Steve, in some ways trusting his judgment more than her own. The touch is a comfort.

She doesn't force the conversation, letting the silence stretch while they head outside.]

[elcapitan]

[He'll walk her outdoors, where they can greet the fresh air and feel the sun on their faces. The thorny bushes seem taller and thicker now, more oppressive than they'd been before. Steve supposes that much is in his head.]
