The Witch's Curse


A fantasy AU meme where witches are real, and they are vengeful. Specify your character's role: the witch (or sorcerer), the subject of the curse, or the curse breaker. Tag around and pick or RNG a curse.

1: Change of Form: human turned animal, mythical beast turned human, human turned inanimate object, human made older/younger, the possibilities are endless

2: Obeisance: you are now cursed to follow the witch's every command and it's useless to resist, or perhaps you simply have to obey every command given you no matter who gives it

3: Curse of Sleep: like princesses before you, you are cursed to sleep for all eternity, or at least until your one true love finds you

4: Possession: be it a demon or any other kind of spirit, your body is no longer your own

5: Isolation: some witches use towers, others use forests of thorns, but either way the message is clear-- you are never seeing the outside world again

6: Resurrection: even death is not an escape from the witch's power, for some can raise the dead

7: Bad Luck: some curses are more minor, only causing you to stub your toe or drop your books, but they're still annoying

8: Defects: you weren't turned to an inhuman shape, but were somehow made hideous, clumsy, or repellent in some way-- maybe you smell terrible, or maybe people who get near you just feel uneasy and want to leave

9: Wounds: you have a wound that simply won't heal-- maybe it's slowly killing you, maybe it's just annoying, but it's not going away

10: Monster Magnet: wherever you go you're always being attacked by creatures, demons or monsters or ghosts, etc, that want to kill you

11: Never to Meet: you become an animal during the day while your true love is human, then you switch forms at night, so you can never both be human at the same time again

12: Death: your death is approaching and you need to find a way to avert it or remove the curse entirely

13: Objectification: you didn't avoid the death curse, and now your soul is bound to an inanimate object, perhaps to provide more power for the witch, to bind a spell to the object and give it power, or maybe just so you can't move on to your next life

14: Cursed Object: maybe it wasn't the witch themselves, but something that used to belong to a witch that put the curse on you, and now you must find a witch who can remove the curse

15: Cursed Ground: your house is built somewhere it really should not have been, and now you have to deal with ghosts or demons or the undead, which will really ruin your property value

16: Wildcard: choose your own adventure!

I should have know that. Sorry, sweetie. Still tired...

[She gets up and heads for the time out room. Steve should know better than to get in trouble like this.]

[She'll find Steve in a dark, ominous room. The only light is provided by dozens of candles melted down to the halfway point or lower. He's standing in the center of a tight circle, blankly watching a pair of lights dance around his head. He's mumbling something that never finds voice, the magical equivalent of being forced to stand in a corner.]

Steve....?

[Getting away from the girl helps, but only a little. Natasha can find some shock and horror in herself for this, even if it's muted.]

Jeez, what did you do?

[elcapitan]

[When she asks, he'll raise his voice just enough to be heard.]

I thought I remembered something from before we were a family but it was wrong I was wrong it was a mistake. Our daughter is perfect. We're lucky to be a family.

[She touches his shoulder, more concerned.]

We are lucky, but it's okay to remember things. You should remember thins. Shouldn't we?

Remembering is wrong. [He recites it immediately, unblinking.] We don't need to know what happened before we were here. We live here now.

No. We're leaving after—[What's the girl's name? After her birthday. But Natasha doesn't know her name. She's their daughter, but that's impossible. They don't have a daughter, not the two of them. They only just got here.]

Steve, we need to go.

[elcapitan]

We can't leave when there's a party to plan.

[And also, there's the time out issue. They probably shouldn't even be talking to one another.]

[She takes Steve's hand, tugging it. They need to leave before the girl gets here, before she can stop them.]

There's not going to be a party.

[elcapitan]

[When she tugs him, he's jerked forward and out of the circle holding him in place. He groans groggily, rubbing the back of his neck.]

....Natasha...? What are you doing here? Who's watching her?

No one. She's taking a nap. [Her initial answer is so pedestrian, she almost falls back into the role of mother, but she fights it. She's many things, but not that.]

We should go before she wakes up. We need to go.

[elcapitan]

[He softens, lapsing into a smile.]

She's so cute when she's sleeping. I don't know how you could pull yourself away. Let's go watch her.

[outstandingbalance]

Steve... Steve, she said she was punishing you for wanting to leave. Do you remember that?

[elcapitan]

[He snorts at the idea of it.]

How would I do that? You know leaving's not allowed. [It's a different narrative than his earlier one.]

[outstandingbalance]

That's part of why we have to go. This is wrong. I can't always put my figure on it, but—she's not our daughter.

[elcapitan]

[His eyes go wide.]

Shhhh. You can't say that. She'll hear you. Why would you break a little girl's heart like that??

[outstandingbalance]

Because it's true. And you know it is.

[elcapitan]

She's our daughter. Our family is so happy together -- don't just ruin that.

[outstandingbalance]

Steve, look at me. Do you look like your wife? [She tries coming at this from a different angle.]

[elcapitan]

[He looks at her, but shrinks back immediately after.]

Natasha, you have to stop.

[outstandingbalance]

If I stop now, Steve, I don't think we'll get out.

[elcapitan]

We shouldn't get out. And if you keep thinking that, she's going to know and then you're going to get punished for it.

[outstandingbalance]

I'm not afraid of being punished. I'm afraid of forgetting I don't belong here.

[elcapitan]

[He frowns.]

What do you mean you don't belong here? If course you belong here!
