trust ONLY you Intimacy is wonderful, no doubt...but you just can't. For you, you can't let someone in like that, can't let your guard down, or just don't want to. ( scott offers a grin. he does miss cassie something awful; wishes he could apologise to the pyms for how poorly he'd acted when he told them he had to save the world. but he's sure there'll be time for that at some point. or at least, he likes to have faith. )

'course, I didn't expect things to turn out like this, but it really isn't the worst that's happened to me. ( having finished his cleaning, scott sets to work getting the machinery itself put together. ) This time I got to tell my little girl goodbye before leaving to be a hero.

[ According to Steve, Zemo had killed the other Super Soldiers. The whole thing was one big twisted game of vengeance and retribution. It made him queasy. Zemo's not the first they have hurt. ]

I'm glad, too. ( scott smiles a bit, ducking his head to find sam's gaze where it's averted. his head cants to the side gently. ) I don't regret anything, sir.

[ Sam absorbs that quietly. ]

I-- ( there's something there scott should be latching onto, but he's still a little too dense to figure it out. )

Shit. Sam? Really? ( here comes the face-splitting grin. ) You have no idea how hard it is for me to keep my voice at an acceptable volume right now.

Well, you haven't started squeaking yet, so I'll give it a pass.

[ Sam grins. Scott's enthusiasm was infectious. ] Just don't wear yourself out. And then we'll work you up to saying Steve's name.

I like how you think I need training for this kinda stuff.

Because... it's true. You can't see it, but I'm crying a little inside. ( he laughs, ducking his head to get back to work on the pack that might've started it all--and maybe to hide the small smile tugging at his lips, too. ) I mean... having you for a friend just made this whole fugitive thing a lot easier to deal with.

And I know, I know--that's sappy. Gross. Who says shit like that?

But it doesn't make it any less true.

[ Sam softens a little. In a way, he didn't have a lot of friends either. Sure, he was easy going. Personable. He certainly never made anyone feel like an outsider, but there were times he preferred it that way.

But times were changing. He had changed without realizing it. ]

Got some room in your life left? I'm asking 'cause I latch pretty damn good when it comes to making pals, and even when we're back home you're probably gonna have to deal with me every once in a while. ( screwdriver between his teeth, scott bends and squints to make sure he'd put the wires in correctly. ) No worries, though--I mean, I'm ant-sized, so y'won't need much room to begin with.
