trust ONLY you Intimacy is wonderful, no doubt...but you just can't. For you, you can't let someone in like that, can't let your guard down, or just don't want to. There's also the possibility that you actually cannot be close and candid like that, unless you want to risk their safety and yours. It could, however, be a much more normal case: you were burned in the past by someone, and you don't want that to happen again, or no matter how much of an open book you are in all other aspects of your life, sexuality makes you clam up and retreat. You just can't be with someone - at least not just anyone. Until the right person comes along, then everything changes. Their strength, their kindness, or their trust in you makes you trust them; finally, there's someone you can be honest with and be comfortable enough with to explore a side of you that's had to be locked up. Whenever you have an urge, you can turn to a partner who can give you relief. Whether your tastes be a kink you've always secretly had or just a vanilla, consensual connection, don't be hesitant to let go. You trying to tell me I'm an Avenger now?

[wingmans]

More like a Secret Avenger. I guess we all are right now, but yeah. You made the cut.

[tictacs]

I, uh-- ( scott's floored, and maybe it shows in the way his eyes get wide and his grip on the table tightens a bit and he mouths the word to himself: avenger? ) Holy... shit.

I'm gonna help you guys protect the world!?

[wingmans]

[ Sam's bemused, but he tries his best not to let it show. ]

Well you survived your superhero throw down.

[tictacs]

Y-Yeah, but I can't save the--

Aliens came from space, Sam!

[wingmans]

Yeah, Scott, that's usually where aliens come from.

[tictacs]

I can't fight dudes from space.

[wingmans]

Why not? I hear you punch them and they still go down.

[tictacs]

I think everyone forgets how small in scale my world is compared to all of yours, no ant pun intended.

I'm just a thief, man.

[wingmans]

[ Sam feels a brief frisson of irritation. ]

Will you stop saying that?

[tictacs]

( a cringe. ) Sorry. ( his hands carefully spread over the table, nails lightly scritching over the surface. )

I'm just--scared, all right?

[wingmans]

[ At that response, his hackles go down and he feels less recalcitrant ]

Yeah. Look, no one's saying you have to jump in and fight aliens, okay?

[tictacs]

I don't mind stealing from them, for what it's worth. Or getting intel.

It just feels like a lot to process on my end. Like, being part of the Avengers is amazing--but also completely unexpected.

( a small laugh. ) Ant-Man was supposed to stay a myth, y'know?

[wingmans]

Why?

[ A myth seems like a stretch to be in this day and age. ]

[tictacs]

Because Ant-Man was supposed to be buried when the Cold War ended.

I mean, it doesn't just make me tiny, but it makes me strong, too. Like a human bullet. If people knew the Ant-Man was real they'd want that technology for themselves--I know for a fact HYDRA almost got it just last year.

Which is why I had to steal that thing from you. ( scott still sounds apologetic for that, admittedly. ) To stop them.

I dunno--my mentor always told me the less people know about it, the better. Apparently HYDRA's not the only one who's been trying to steal his shit for ages.

[wingmans]

[ Sam absorbs this carefully. ]

Yeah, that makes sense. So what do you want to do about it now?

[tictacs]

I was thinking "beg the Avengers to help me keep my secret", since "destroy all possible threats" doesn't exactly sound logical or easy.

Y'know, keep my jobs on the down low, for the most part. If possible.

[wingmans]

It's your call.

[ Sam leans against the wall. ] No one can make it for you.

[tictacs]

That another hero thing I gotta remember?

[wingmans]

[ Oh my god. ]

No, Scott. That is a normal person thing. Literally the most normal thing ever.

[tictacs]

You know that saying, like, "if I had a dime for every stupid thing I've said"...

( he nods, though. he gets it. teeth gritting slightly, he lifts his head and exhales through them. )

[ Scott is definitely . . . different. And Sam isn't sure if it's because the kind of company Sam spends time with is always armed and dangerous. ]
