1. Royalty You are the prince or princess of a faraway kingdom. Are you a kind and generous ruler or are a royal pain? Maybe it's that time for you to think about the future and start looking for a husband or bride. Have you ever been outside the castle walls? Do you have any interest in stepping outside your cozy world at all? 2. Runaway Prince/Princess Whatever the reason, you couldn't take living in the castle anymore! You packed up a few belongings (or maybe a few too many) and now, you are on the run! How long you've been on the run is up to you. Be careful that no one finds out who you are or they might send you back to the castle and you wouldn't want that! 3. Knight in Shining Armor Are you in the kingdom to fight in a tournament? Maybe you are being sent away to slay the evil dragon? Whatever your purpose is, you are a noble and loyal knight sworn to serve. . . whether you like it or not. 4. Magician You are the greatest magician in all the land! . . . Or are you? You can be a few things with this: The court magician, an evil wizard, or maybe magic is forbidden in your kingdom and you're keeping your powers a secret. And what is your power? Can you cure an illness, make love potions, blow things up, or are you dabbling in the dark arts and a master of curses? 5. Enchanted creature Your character can be any fantastic creature-- dragon, unicorn, mermaid, Tinker Bell, or perhaps you were once a human but some horrible spell has turned you into what you are now. Beware! There are some who might want to harm you for one reason or another. . . or maybe the humans are the one who should be aware of you. 6. Questionable occupation Gotta eat to live and you gotta steal to eat. Whatever your place in society is right now, it's not a good one. You don't have a problem breaking the law to accomplish whatever it is you want (or need) to do. You might be the pirate king that terrorizes the coastal kingdoms or a common thief stealing just to get a meal. Once the officials get their hands on you, it's to the dungeons with you! 7. Commoner Who are you? No one special. .. or are you? Maybe you're the servant and close friend of someone at the castle. But then again, you might be someone on the outside that daydreams of what it's like in the castle. [Building an adventure party was harder than it seemed. Especially if you were a magician, of sorts. Not a particularly effective mage, Jane sometimes had trouble finding those willing to accompany her in her search for important magical artifacts.

The simple fact was, magicians couldn't afford to travel alone. Not when they were so small and easily damaged.]

[In a temperate land, in the midst of a beautiful forest and beside a fine lake, there is a tower.]

[Nothing abnormal about that description; in such lands there are likely to be many towers, the homes of soldiers taking care of their country as commanded to by their monarch. But this tower is very unusual, because it is made entirely of ice. From a distance it looks like a sculpture of pure crystal.]

[Legend has it that some great treasure awaits within, but nobody can say what that treasure is because anyone who gets within a certain distance of it will hear a song. The song makes most souls drowsy, and though many fight not a single soul has yet managed to get to the tower before they fall asleep.]

[Some of those who fall asleep are never heard from again. Others awake far away from the tower, not knowing how they were moved.]

[If one were to reach the tower, they would find that the entrance is sealed over entirely. There is definitely a staircase in there, but it is hidden behind thick ice. Inside, right at the top, there is a set of stone rooms. If anyone could get there, they would not, in fact, find any treasure.]

[In truth he was once a prince, but that was a long time ago. He has grown up here with only vague memories of a rich childhood still present in his mind, the only company he gets that of a shadowy figure who comes occasionally to question him. Once the young man, named Mitsuhide, would try to ask questions of his own, but had long ago given up doing so. They got him nowhere; the hooded man merely laughed at him, and shook his head.]

[But there is always food, and there are books too, the only gifts the shadow is willing to give. It is through these that Mitsuhide has gained knowledge of the world, and through the stories within that he has gained hope. Many days are spent gazing out of one of his windows, waiting for someone who can bypass the magic and set him free.]

[It seemed that nobody in the kingdom could agree on just who Kirino Ranmaru was.

Most nobles would tell you that he was the fair son of a viscount, meant to become an adviser to the prince, who died several years ago. The rest of the nobles would claim that Kirino Ranmaru wasn't male at all.

Some believe that he's a guardian spirit who helps the helpless, then disappears in the blink of an eye. Some say he is a miracle-worker, healing thought-to-be-incurable illnesses.

Others would tell you that Kirino Ranmaru is the protector of the forest, offering protection to animals, trees, and those in need of help, but punishing those who hunt for sport. Enemies of the kingdom would say that he is a powerful sorcerer, cursing anyone who would dare attack the kingdom.

In reality, Kirino Ranmaru is a fourteen-year-old boy with a knack for magic, a kind heart, and a hut in the woods that he built himself. He's said to see into the hearts of others; some say he helps or harms on a whim; some say he's an expert at dispelling curses... but you won't know that until you meet him face to face, now will you?]

A beautiful horse appears before a lone traveler. It is friendly, gracious even, and it comes to the hand like a well-behaved gelding instead of the free stallion that it is. Nothing is what it appears to be however.

It may simply be a curious animal, but it may also be one of the folk. The fae can be tempted to grant wishes if cajoled and pleased. They can also be relentlessly vicious at the smallest feeling of caprice.

Is the sight of it welcomed? Fearful? Expected? Is it what he was seeking? Or the last thing he had wanted to see?]

She couldn't stay in one place for long, only to rest her horse and her bones, feed them both and take off again. Find a place far enough where they won't recognize the wayward daughter with hair redder than her sisters', even redder than the queen's strawberry-blonde locks. She would make a new life for herself here, learn the ways of the commoners. The palace was not her place - it never was.

Riding at a slow trot, she breathed in the fresh air, extending a hand to brush over the leaves of the trees. This was much better. )
