Fantasy AU Meme 1. Comment with your character. You can leave your comment blank or type up a prompt if you know what you want already. 2. 1. Royalty You are the prince or princess of a faraway kingdom. Are you a kind and generous ruler or are a royal pain? Maybe it's that time for you to think about the future and start looking for a husband or bride. Have you ever been outside the castle walls? Do you have any interest in stepping outside your cozy world at all? 2. Runaway Prince/Princess Whatever the reason, you couldn't take living in the castle anymore! You packed up a few belongings (or maybe a few too many) and now, you are on the run! How long you've been on the run is up to you. Be careful that no one finds out who you are or they might send you back to the castle and you wouldn't want that! 3. Knight in Shining Armor Are you in the kingdom to fight in a tournament? Maybe you are being sent away to slay the evil dragon? Whatever your purpose is, you are a noble and loyal knight sworn to serve. . . whether you like it or not. 4. Magician You are the greatest magician in all the land! . . . Or are you? You can be a few things with this: The court magician, an evil wizard, or maybe magic is forbidden in your kingdom and you're keeping your powers a secret. And what is your power? Can you cure an illness, make love potions, blow things up, or are you dabbling in the dark arts and a master of curses? 5. Enchanted creature Your character can be any fantastic creature-- dragon, unicorn, mermaid, Tinker Bell, or perhaps you were once a human but some horrible spell has turned you into what you are now. Beware! There are some who might want to harm you for one reason or another. . . or maybe the humans are the one who should be aware of you. 6. Questionable occupation Gotta eat to live and you gotta steal to eat. Whatever your place in society is right now, it's not a good one. You don't have a problem breaking the law to accomplish whatever it is you want (or need) to do. You might be the pirate king that terrorizes the coastal kingdoms or a common thief stealing just to get a meal. Once the officials get their hands on you, it's to the dungeons with you! 7. Commoner Who are you? No one special. .. or are you? Maybe you're the servant and close friend of someone at the castle. But then again, you might be someone on the outside that daydreams of what it's like in the castle. [Eliot glances briefly at the door, then looks back to Parker. He nods slowly.]

I'm going with you.

[rappelling]

Good. You might want to dress warmly, I'll be waiting just outside the door.

[and then she's moving to the door and stepping through it, before she closes it, she adds:] Bring the sword.

[Because apparently she didn't think that would be obvious. She'll wait by the door like she said, casually checking the nearby sleeping guards to see if they're carrying anything interesting (they aren't)]

[Eliot throws on his warmest tunic and buckles on his swordbelt. He pulls on his boots and opens his door.]

I'm ready.

[rappelling]

[Parker nods, pulling the hood of her cloak up over her head; she doesn't really need to hide her face, but she likes the dramatic effect]

If you stay close, no one will be able to see you and you won't have explain why you're leaving in the middle of the night.

[She's moving without waiting for a response, just assuming that he'll do as she says and stay beside her as she makes her way through the castle, down to the kitchens and out through a back door that's only meant for the staff.]

[Eliot follows Parker as closely as he can without tripping over her. He would ask how she knows her way around the palace but she's keeping anyone from seeing him, not from hearing him.]

[rappelling]

[Once they're outside, she drops the illusion of invisibility; there's a limit to how much she can use her powers. They've gone a litle way before she remembers that she should inform him of that (she's not used to working with someone)]

We're visible now, stick to the shadows. [it's clear they're making their way towards the forest and Parker is mostly focused on working out what they're going to do if they find the missing kids] Your advisors, do they have children?

[retrieverchef]

[Eliot nods, keeping to the shadows of the buildings in town. He worries just as much as Parker about what to do if they found the children. He's not sure if he hopes they find the children with whoever took them or alone.]

Some of them, yes. I know most of my uncles do. Does it matter?

[rappelling]

It might, they could've made a deal. You know, "don't eat my kids and I'll help you get other ones", sort of thing?

[Parker don't... say... "eat"...]

[retrieverchef]

Eat?! There's someone or something out there eating kids?!

[rappelling]

Oops. [She shoots him a look in the dark, her expression sheepish] I wasn't going to mention that bit unless I had to. But... yeah, there could be. This is why I wanted you to bring the sword.

[retrieverchef]

But... How? Why? And why doesn't anyone else know about this?

[rappelling]

They don't want to know. It's mostly poor kids - or orphans - who disappear. No one cares about them, so no one goes looking, so they're easy pickings.

[And that's the real reason why she's doing this. Parker doesn't let herself care about a lot of things, but she can't help feeling protective of the kids no one else cares about]

[retrieverchef]

[Eliot scowls darkly.]

If they knew, if they had any way of knowing, I'm going to find a way to dismiss them. We're talking about children! It's their job to know!

[rappelling]

[She says her next piece while still flitting through the streets, as if she's just commenting on the weather:]

I can make them disappear. If you'd like.

[Parker doesn't hurt people, that doesn't mean she can't make their lives miserable]

[retrieverchef]

[He knows he should say no but the idea of seeing his advisors fuming over supposedly missing colleagues is extremely enticing. He finds himself grinning.]

If I find out they knew anything about this, I might just take you up on that offer.

[rappelling]

[Parker is a helper]

I was hoping you'd say that.

[It's not much longer before they're at the edge of the forest and Parker stops, eyes searching the darkness]

A few days ago I found an old cabin in the forest, it was empty, but not abandoned and it felt... weird. That's where we'll start.

[retrieverchef]

Felt weird? Like the wood didn't feel like wood or it felt like... Like magic?

[rappelling]

Like magic. Like someone was breathing on the back of my neck. [the way her face scrunches up should indicate that she didn't find that very pleasant] I didn't stick around for long, but then I found out about the kids going missing...

[and she put two and two together and decided to recruit some help]

[retrieverchef]

[He shivers slightly at the thought. It sounds... distinctly creepy and forboding.]

Could they have been invisible? Like we were in the palace? And what would someone be doing that would make a place feel like magic?

[rappelling]

No, I'd be able to tell if someone else was invisible.

[she worries her bottom lip with her teeth as she considers his last question] All magic leaves traces, but that felt... strong, and unnatural. Someone, or something, is using a lot of magic and they're not being nice.

[retrieverchef]

And it has something to do with the missing children. Has to. How far is this cabin?

[rappelling]

Forty minutes. Thirty if we move quickly. I'll make sure nothing can see us, but you make sure you're not too noisy.

[she lets out a breath slowly, focusing, and then they're invisible again] Ready?

[retrieverchef]

Yeah. And I'll do my best about the noise.

[rappelling]

You've been alright so far.

[For her part, Parker is almost completely silent, despite the rough terrain. She never snaps a twig underfoot or rustles leaves when she brushes past a shrub; it's not magic, she's just good at what she does.

She also doesn't seem worried by the other things out in the forest, though at one point she has them stand still for a minute as a spectre drifts through the forest around them. She starts moving as soon as it's gone, not stopping again until they're at the edge of a small clearing, the cabin visible in the distance.] There.

[Eliot isn't quite as quiet as Parker. He steps on the occasional dry leaf. But he's been hunting and before. He knows how to avoid spooking any game near him. And he knows how to disguise any sounds he makes as another animal in the woods.

The brisk night air invigorates him. It feels like no time at all before they're standing at the edge of a clearing. He looks where Parker points. The cabin looks so normal, like a hunter's cabin. Not that this forest is a safe place for such a thing.]

It looks so normal. If it weren't here, of all places, I'd think it was just some hunter.
