Fantasy AU Meme

1. Royalty

You are the prince or princess of a faraway kingdom. Are you a kind and generous ruler or are a royal pain? Maybe it's that time for you to think about the future and start looking for a husband or bride. Have you ever been outside the castle walls? Do you have any interest in stepping outside your cozy world at all?

2. Runaway Prince/Princess

Whatever the reason, you couldn't take living in the castle anymore! You packed up a few belongings (or maybe a few too many) and now, you are on the run! How long you've been on the run is up to you. Be careful that no one finds out who you are or they might send you back to the castle and you wouldn't want that!

3. Knight in Shining Armor

Are you in the kingdom to fight in a tournament? Maybe you are being sent away to slay the evil dragon? Whatever your purpose is, you are a noble and loyal knight sworn to serve. . . whether you like it or not.

4. Magician

You are the greatest magician in all the land! . . . Or are you? You can be a few things with this: The court magician, an evil wizard, or maybe magic is forbidden in your kingdom and you're keeping your powers a secret. And what is your power? Can you cure an illness, make love potions, blow things up, or are you dabbling in the dark arts and a master of curses?

5. Enchanted creature

Your character can be any fantastic creature-- dragon, unicorn, mermaid, Tinker Bell, or perhaps you were once a human but some horrible spell has turned you into what you are now. Beware! There are some who might want to harm you for one reason or another. . . or maybe the humans are the one who should be aware of you.

6. Questionable occupation

Gotta eat to live and you gotta steal to eat. Whatever your place in society is right now, it's not a good one. You don't have a problem breaking the law to accomplish whatever it is you want (or need) to do. You might be the pirate king that terrorizes the coastal kingdoms or a common thief stealing just to get a meal. Once the officials get their hands on you, it's to the dungeons with you!

7. Commoner

Who are you? No one special. .. or are you? Maybe you're the servant and close friend of someone at the castle. But then again, you might be someone on the outside that daydreams of what it's like in the castle. You are just a commoner and that will never change. . . or maybe destiny has something bigger in store for you.

"It's not your fault."

Great. He was trying to express that he was admiring something, and now Grayson was apologizing to him. This was just... hopeless.

"Is there any reason they mentioned to stay close longer?" Focus on what was to be done. It was what mattered, after all, wasn't it?

"I'm sure you could learn to do it too," he said encouragingly, despite all evidence to the contrary. Dick just had an unfailing belief in his little brother, that Damian could do anything and everything he might want to do, if only he put his mind to it. No matter what it might be, Dick would probably support him in it.

"I'm not sure, there might be some unrest, a situation to keep an eye on before we decide where to go..." he replied thoughtfully, glancing around the room to try and work out who might give them the best answer.

"Don't get your hopes up." Damian didn't snap, though. It was simply a quiet statement of fact.

Not all right. But a fact.

Deep breath, eyes looking up from under his brows. After a moment, he nods. "Do you usually work out of here, when there is something like that?"

"There's a few places I spread my time between, it depends on the situation. I'll base myself wherever's the safest, if nowhere's safe then I'll keep moving, or camp out. We should probably move as far out as we can, to be on the safe side, as soon as we work out how far that is," he explained "it depends what's happening, whether it's something to avoid or get involved in..."

He was leaning towards avoid, no matter what it was, since he had Damian with him. He didn't want to throw the kid directly into the deep end of this life.

Damian thought over that for a bit, then nodded. "You know you can go on as usual and I wan shadow you when you're on the move and hole up nearby when you need to stop? I won't be getting in your way."

If there was something big, something important that Grayson might be needed for...

He wanted to help. But what were the chances that he'd do more than sow chaos, anyway?

"I didn't invite you along with me just to drop you at the first sign of trouble, little cub, I don't think you'll get in my way very much at all,"

Despite not wanting to drop Damian right into something big and dramatic, he didn't want the younger boy to feel unwanted, and he did genuinely think that Damian would be a great help to anything he had planned, the problem was that he didn't always know what he would have to plan.

"We'll work out a strategy as soon as we know more information."

"Oh."

It was pretty much a whisper, and the blue eyes widened, for a moment vulnerable as that (not-looked-for) reassurance sank in. He would have made do with spending time on his own while his brother needed to do things his way.

But, little as he wanted it or stayed aware of it, the fact that Grayson had left was still raw, so this was... soothing.

He busied himself with what remained of his breakfast.

"When... we're on our way, I'll try to think of a good way to disguise myself, then."

If they were staying near, he would need it. An adult sinking in the depth of his cowl was one thing. A child even having one good enough for that was... suspicious.

"Yes... it's a pity you're too small for us to put a beard on you," he chuckled. Damian would probably look quite ridiculous in a false beard - while his expression and his gaze were often years older than his actual age, he still looked like a child, and he hadn't yet grown tall enough to pass for a man.

"Can your magic do anything to alter your appearance?" he wasn't sure the extent of Damian's skill, or what it took out of him when he used it, but it was worth asking in case it was an option, it would certainly be the easiest way.

... yep. That laughter got an indignant glare out of the boy. Much as he lov-- much as he had missed his older brother, he did not like being laughed at. At all.

"I was thinking of dyeing my hair blond. Or, at least, brown. Less conspicuous." Black hair and blue eyes. Not unheard of, but if Father did really try to look for him, two black-hair-and-blue-eyed young ... well, one young man and one boy would be standing out a lot.

Then he looked down. "I may be able to maintain an illusion, for short periods of time. If I don't have to concentrate on something else." His inheritance did not render itself easily to this kind of use.
