[She had been able to milk five days of her three weeks of built up vacation out of Cat Grant. She had bought herself a swimsuit, found a nice cave, stocked it up, and had told Steve with plenty of notice for the two of them to make sure they had days off at the same time. Her last call to him had been a little quick. 'I'm ready to come get you. Are you ready?'

And when he'd said yes? That was why there was someone knocking on his door. Someone who had hidden a cape under a sundress. (She had to have the cape. Aerodynamics.) That someone was nearly bouncing with excitement, but still, she at least seemed patient when she knocked.]

[With each subsequent message, he felt that odd sense of anticipation, of actually looking forward to something. The others had noticed the change and had questioned him about it. He'd had to endure five hours in a room with Romanoff sitting backwards on a chair, just staring at him and waiting for him to crack. For now, he was keeping this little moment to himself. Maybe later, maybe when he knew just where they stood, he'd share. As of now, they'd have to make do with knowing that Steve was going 'somewhere' at 'some point' with 'someone' for 'an undetermined amount of time' and it was 'none of their busi-- Romanoff, stop trying to put a tracker in my shield'.

Because he wasn't taking his shield with him. He wasn't taking anything that reminded him of Captain America. He'd packed shorts, t-shirts, sweats, a pair of swim trunks, and other than basic toiletries, not much else. Well, there was the box with pies in it. And maybe some cupcakes he'd gotten from the bakery that morning. Maybe.

Opening the door, he grinned when he saw her, gesturing for her to come in.]

Hey. Good timing. The pies have cooled enough that they won't sweat the container up when it's closed. Come in.

[Kara was grinning happily when she came in, obviously unladen - except for the not-so-well-hidden cape. She'd already flown everything out, to make this part of the trip as easy as possible.]

Hi. You'll have to excuse me if I start figuratively bouncing off the walls. I've been looking forward to this so much.

[So much so that she bounced forward and hugged him, arms around his shoulders impulsively. People had wondered about her, too. She'd not taken vacation before. She'd not acted like this before. She'd not kept a secret from--

Okay, honestly, everyone. She was terrible at keeping secrets, but even Alex didn't know. Although she had told her that she was going to go on a vacation and someone else was coming, but no, she wasn't going to tell her who. It was still driving her sister crazy.]

[He'd stepped aside to let her come in, then he was engulfed in sunshine. No, wait, that was a hug. He chuckled and hugged her back, closing the door behind her and gesturing to the space ahead of them.]

Ah, this is me. Not much, but I don't need much. I've got a small carrysack for my things, and a box for... treats. I'd suggest doing the speed thing to get us out of here. Pretty sure someone somewhere's watching. A team full of spies really hates secrets.

I did have to take out a listening device as I came in.

[A tiny little bug that might as well have said Stark all over it. It wasn't exactly Kryptonian-proof, though. As for people watching... Well, she'd looked generally normal coming into the building. Even if she was lacking her glasses (for now). Maybe they'd notice when she and Steve 'didn't come out.'

Kara nodded and--]

Okay, the speed thing might be a little awkward, at least at first. So... Do you object too much to the bridal carry? It's the easiest way to get us out of here and out of sight. We can stop somewhere so you can be more comfortable for the real flight.

I suppose you mean you carrying me.

[Ha ha. Look. He'd tried a joke. *splat*]

I think I'm secure in myself enough to handle someone who's clearly stronger than me carrying me to get us out of here faster.

[It was the whole 'being close to a woman' thing that was going to have him feeling funny.]

[A nod, and she started picking up the boxes and bag he'd shown her to hand to him.]

Okay. You carry these, I'll carry you, and then we'll be out of here before your friends can go 'what was that'. Just - don't forget to hide your eyes like before.

[No one could say Kara didn't learn from her mistakes.]
