Make a Move
![]() Here's the thing: this person is completely, totally, absolutely into you. You're into them, admit it or not. And the icing on the cake? This, right now, is the moment. Whether there's romance in the air on a perfect date or it's an uncomfortably inappropriate time and place, you know there will never be an opportunity like this again. There's sparks. There's a connection. They're giving you A Look that melts your heart. All you have to do is make a move. You can do that, right? ...right? You're not too stubborn or too shy to do so, are you? This is your shot! But - wait. Oh no. Are you the kind of idiot who can't take a hint even if there are blaring neon arrows pointing you in the right direction? Hopefully, fingers crossed, you aren't. Because, like we said, you have to seize this once in a lifetime opportunity. No one likes to have to kick themselves down the road for not taking a chance, after all.

A brush and a comb. Some hair ties. My good-smelling body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Toothbrush, toothpaste, a bag of clothes... Or maybe I'll just steal some of yours.
[...Actually, that sounded pretty good. Maybe she'd just bring underwear and steal his clothes.]

[But he agreed with her. It did sound good. Very good. Like the start of something pretty damn special.]

She'd probably have to keep a PO box in town, though. Just for the sake of CatCo having a place to reach her besides her phone. ...Or maybe she'd --
Hmm, maybe Alex could take over her lease...
Everything seemed to be falling into place so well.]
I'll need to introduce you to a few people.

[For all that Steve was a big boy, there were certain people in his life that felt they needed to keep an eye on him. For his own good. And then there were just the nosy ones.]
no subject
[J'onn J'onzz - but that secret was up to him to give out.]
Winn and James. Barry. You already met Lucy.
It occurs to me that Kal is slacking off. I've not met his girlfriend.

[Steve Rogers: the star spangled man with a healthy respectful fear of mothers.]
It's up to you, remember? Whoever you're comfortable with knowing about us. And I'll introduce you as whoever you want to be known to be with me. Just as long as one side of you doesn't mind being seen in public with me.

Captain America is a very public figure. It'll be safer for me to be Kara Zor-El when I'm with you. If the public knows who I am... Me, or Kal. It's dangerous enough with us as we are. Thor comes and goes. Kal and I don't have anywhere else to go. We need at least some identity where nobody can point us out as aliens and tell us to leave.

[Then he got that gleam in his eye.]
Or maybe... Super Rogers?
no subject
[She already knew just how it'd go.]
My father's name goes, my family name moves up one, and then your name gets added on.
no subject
[Not that he was entirely concerned what someone else thought about how he felt -- how they felt together. But he was family, and family counted.
Heck, he'd probably wind up being his family. Interesting thought.]

[Her hands came to his shoulders again, but this time with a careful massage. This wasn't something to worry about.]
He'll want to make sure you're a good person, which you are, and that you'll treat me well, which you will. And then I'll remind him that I'm technically older than him and I should be vetting his girlfriend, not the other way around. And he'll turn pink and look chastised and I'll feel bad and hug him, and then everything will be fine.
no subject
[He moves his head a little, enjoying that rub and smiling down at her.]
Any Kryptonian... things I need to learn? Or keep an eye out for?
no subject
Not with Kal. He was raised here on Earth. When Krypton was destroyed, he was just a baby, so he doesn't really remember any of it. I tell him Krypton stories when we get the chance to hang out together.

[Wow, okay, that was... She'd misunderstood, but it wasn't as terrible as it could've been.
Hmm. Good question.]
I don't think so. I wasn't to dating age when I left Krypton, so Mom didn't really explain a lot of that to me. Dating, I mean. Holidays... I've generally adopted Earth holidays, but there are two Kryptonian holidays that I... kind of celebrate? I've not told Kal much about them.
One is the Day of Remembrance, which is kind of like American Memorial Day, except it's just for family, and there's the Day of Truth, where we remember an ancient Kryptonian who spoke the truth against a race that had invaded Krypton and broke us free from slavery. That day, we speak nothing but the truth all day, even if it's not the most pleasant thing to hear.

I'm happy to share my holidays with you. I'm happy to share my culture with you. Even if most of my culture has ended up merging with modern American culture.

[Every time he said something like that. Every time he proved how good a person he was, she couldn't help but swoon a little inside.]
no subject
[His hand lifted to trace her jaw.]
I'm really glad I waited, because I sure as hell found her.
no subject
[But that seemed kind of incidental. They had called and texted and talked from the day they met. They'd been interested starting from then. They'd found they had similar experiences, similar losses. Similar wants. They knew enough about each other to know that this was something they wanted to work to keep.
Maybe this really was a sort of cosmic thing. Like Dharma and Greg, without the hippies and the lawyers. They were already talking moving in and last names. Was it too fast? Maybe. But it didn't feel that way. It felt like something that had been waiting to happen.]
I'm okay with that, though. I feel like I've been waiting for you since I woke up on Earth.
no subject
[He kissed the tip of her nose.]
As for the dating...? I'd like to. I mean, I think I've been pretty obvious that I'd like this to go beyond this weekend. Beyond next. I want a lot. Of you. I know we both have other obligations, and I don't expect you to not be who you are, just like I hope you'll be okay with me doing what I do. But outside of that, I want you.

[Lettuce. Not bread. She'd been watching that particular argument for a while, and she agreed.]
Not to mention eating an incredible amount of food. Buffets will cringe to see us coming. I...
[Kara looked into his eyes, loving his honesty, his sincerity, and all of the rest of him.]
I can't imagine anyone else would understand what it's like. Not just the food, but having to interrupt things to go... help somewhere, or just having to deal with a rather spoiled, determined, opinionated person who doesn't realise that the rest of the world might have different viewpoints.
[For him, Tony Stark. For her, Cat Grant.]
no subject
[And he'd found that incredibly amusing. And well worth the mild bellyache. Doing it with her would just be that much more fun.]
I'll always understand, Kara. Unless you're flying off to go meet your other boyfriend. Then I'll probably have to have a tell-all with the tabloids. Let them know how much you snore.
[Yep. It was teasing time.]

[Playful, she poked his side, eyes gleaming.]

Sorry about the late start. Crashed out early and had a busy day.
No problem at all. I baked, and burned my hand. Oops.
Ooh, no. Bad baking.
At least I didn't lose a fingerprint this time.
You criminal in the making, you.
I'm practicing for my pinky-only bank robbery, don'cha know.
They'll never see it coming. They have no defense. The pinky rules.
I'll be forever known as the Littlefinger Bandit.
Until GRRM's lawyers send you a cease and desist, and you have to change it to WeeFinger
Bah, I'd argue for fair use.
Guilty....
