[Had they really expected anything else? They'd come to a tropical island, each of them knowing they were interested in the other. It would've been silly for them not to expect something like this. Enough so that she didn't even try to hide the look in her eye that said 'definitely maybe.' She didn't intend to say no. Maybe 'not yet', but not no. She liked him. She liked him a lot, and she could easily imagine being wrapped around him, kissing him, feeling him against her, but... this was kind of their second date. Was it okay for that to happen on a second date?

More likely she was thinking too hard and should just go with her instinct. The same instinct that had her brushing her nose against his, arms draping around his shoulders. Because this was how she fit.]

Okay.

[Old fashioned ideals mixed with male frustration. He'd waited so long for anything, there was just too much of him that wanted it all. Wanted her. And it was her he wanted, not another blonde, not some different girl in a bikini (or less) wrapping her arms around him and giving him a smile that made the coolness of the water seem a little sharper. Dates and times and 'should bes' were for people that had normal lives. With how they lived, he'd learned firsthand that sometimes... sometimes you had to just enjoy what you had while you had it, because bad things happened and he didn't want to go another lifetime thinking about what he could have had.

She fit perfectly against him and he stretched out his leg to keep them balanced on the sea floor, one hand lifting to push back a few wet strands of hair. She was giving him a look that was making that tingling coil in the pit of his stomach start to writhe, and maybe a little of that heat showed in the way he looked back at her.]

Okay...

[She had a feeling that it would be very easy to be in love with him. She was even pretty sure that she'd already started to tip over that line. At least into infatuation. Definitely into lust. And if she was waiting for someone special, how much more special could it get? They even had some of the same experiences. Being in stasis, adjusting to a whole new world, suddenly finding themselves so much physically stronger than they were just moments before.

But more than that, Steve was Steve. Just as shy and awkward as she was, but with a little more experience to fall back on. She liked him. And she knew.

With a little nod, she whispered to him.]

I want my first time to be with you.

[His eyes closed as he let out an almost pained sounding groan, leaning in to rest his forehead against hers.]

You are... killing me. I want very much to be a gentleman with you, Kara. You deserve it. And it's not... it's not your fault.

[Steve would cut out his own tongue before he ever blamed any woman for the responses of a man finding her attractive. He dared anyone to say 'she was asking for it wearing that _____' to his face.]

You are just very good at... at pushing all those buttons I didn't know I had. It's very difficult not to-- not to want you. And I do. I'd like to be your first, and for you to be mine. I'd hope that it wouldn't stop at just the first...

[He was rambling a little, embarrassed and not a little distracted by thoughts of her. Naked. Touching him. Letting him touch her. Maybe he needed to not hold her so tightly...]

Let me assure you - you are a gentleman, Steve.

[Still tight against him, she kissed his jaw as she spoke, let her fingers stroke through his hair. He was so sweet and every word he said nudged her more toward swooning over him.]

And when we do decide it's time - if it's now or later or days from now or weeks from now - I'm sure it won't be the last. I want something real. Something that lasts and endures. Something that might just become permanent, and I can imagine that with you. And I really, really hope that doesn't scare you. But I even daydream about silly things like cooking dinner with you, or watching movies together before we fall asleep on the couch.

[He liked her lips. A lot. He liked them on his, and he seemed to like them pretty much anywhere she put them. The hand at her face slid around to the back of her head as he turned his to look down at her.]

I'd like that. The whole thing. I don't want to rush it, but-- we don't really live timetable lives. I just want it to be something we both want. Now or later, it doesn't matter to me.

[And he meant it. Even if he'd learn the hard way what blueballs did to a super soldier, he wouldn't push her. Or nag her. Or try to convince her to be ready before she was. Heck, for all he knew, he'd be the one balking when and if it ever happened.]

But I like that other part, too. The dinner and the movies part. I like that a lot.

You might be the only person in the world that I'm not related to who can match me pancake for pancake.

[A touch of levity. Of warmth. She looked into his eyes and smiled, fingers caressing his cheek. And it struck her then that she really wanted to wake up to him. To see what he looked like when he woke up in the morning. She was either sappy or creepy and she couldn't figure out which just then. She only knew that she needed to kiss him, and she did, soft and gentle.]

I kind of like the idea of taking you out for one of those monster meals that no one finishes, just to see the look on their face...

[He was grinning when she kissed him, a pleased hum leaving him to vibrate against her lips as his mind started wandering along the same path as hers. All those mundane couple things that people did, he wanted. He'd seen what someone like him could have with Barton's little impromptu family visit, and it had made him envious of the archer. He wanted that. A family. Someone to come home to. And with Kara, he wasn't painting a target on her back. She wasn't at risk from his enemies, and he'd gladly help her with hers if she asked. It could be an actual partnership, and he wanted that more than he realized.]

[Maybe this little cooldown would help in the long run. At least they could wait 'til they got back to the cave. Because she knew what he'd said was right. Lust was easy, and they both (Rao help them) had that in spades. What they would need for things to last would be a good foundation. Lust would help, and... Mm. But could they give in to lust now and still build that foundation?

Hm.

She caught a sip of air between kisses, then had to stop just to look at him again.]

...It just hit me that... what CatCo published after we met? We're making it true.

[It was his turn to move to pressing kisses over her face, working them down along her jaw to her neck.]

Mm? You'll have to explain. I don't think I got around to reading about it.

[Mostly because he hadn't been interested in whatever drivel the papers were 'supposing' about him and someone he'd fought with. The Avengers got it enough, Romanoff the worst of it. Though, he did remember Stark making some comment about keeping Thor away from him if he happened to like flying blondes in capes so much...]

There were-- Mm.

[So distracting, those kisses, but they felt so nice. She couldn't help but tip her head back to show just how much and to offer more room for more kisses.]

After the fight, when I offered to fly you. They got me with my hand out to you, and... There's where the rumours started, Rao, Steve, I can't think when you do that...

[There wasn't any way he was going to stop when she was making little sounds like that -- not unless she asked. His lips dragged down over where he could feel her pulse, fast and strong and he had an urge to taste it. To taste her. That's the only explanation he had for why he let his tongue come out to flick over that spot, teeth giving a gentle bite after that he soothed with another kiss.

While Steve himself might not have much in the way of experience under his belt, he'd found that the internet had a wealth of information for just what women seemed to like. Just there, for anyone to look at. Very helpful.]

Do you really care what anyone thinks about us?

No.

[It was true. She didn't care. It had just struck her that it had gone from rumour to truth in the span of... Well, not very long at all. It was kind of nice to think about, honestly - when she could think.

The kisses Steve was giving her were distracting, though, and most of what she could do was sigh happily as he kissed her skin, at the light touches of his teeth and...

And cooling down wasn't working very well. And she was finding that she didn't care.]

Do you want to take this to the air mattress?

[He finally drew back from the tantalizing allure of continuing to kiss a trail all along her, looking at her with blue eyes that had their pupils blown wide, and a sort of glazed yet heated look in them.]

Do you?

[Hell of a question to answer. But the answer was...

A little obvious, all told. She slid her hand down from his shoulder, over his chest, around his side to his back, savoring every inch.]

Yes.

[He felt her touch like a brand, her skin a stark temperature contrast to the water around them. And that look on her face... God help him. He was a goner.]

Okay.

[His shirt and her dress were left behind in favour of getting to the cave. This amount of flying she could do - especially over treetops instead of between them. Especially not at speed. But it was still enough to blow a little of the water off their skin by the time she placed them beside their goal. Green, big enough for two, and fabric covered. It was high quality, but even Kara had blushingly wondered if, if anything happened, it would stand up to them.]

[Probably not, but they could easily bunk down on top of whatever shattered remains were left.

They were partially dry by now, and he lifted a hand to finger her hair, lifting one brow at her.]

Guess you could save a ton on drying products...

[That hand moved to her face, finger trailing down her jaw to her chin.]

I really hope you're aware of how beautiful you are.

I-- I'm not anything spectacular. But you make me feel beautiful.

[The way he looked at her had given her not just pause but had shaken her a little from time to time - like she was the only woman in the world. And it wasn't the 'wow, Supergirl' look. That was enough to have her blushing all by itself.]

Yes, Kara. You are.

[He meant it. She was pretty much female perfection in the same way that her cousin was on the top tier of males. Everything went together perfectly, and it all just lit up when she smiled. Or blushed.]

I think I'm going to have to keep telling you that until you believe it.

Steve...

[His name was a quiet, helpless syllable as she stepped up to him, hands against his chest, and then up to his shoulders, arms around him. She wasn't sure what to say. Years of self-control were hard to undo, especially in just a span of days. But the way he made her feel was breathtaking.]

You are the sweetest, kindest, most wonderful, and most handsome man I've ever known. I could look into your eyes forever. And I wouldn't want you to let me go.

[He could feel that heat warm his cheeks a bit, but it faded when she touched him, when she looked up at him like that. His hand moved to stroke over her hair, the other sliding over her hip before settling on her back.]

I'm not feeling too inclined to have you go anywhere else right now.

[His voice may have dropped an octave, eyes flicking down to her lips before he moved in and stole a kiss. He could kiss her for hours and never get tired of it.]

[Kara's eyes closed and she met him halfway. She could be so feminine with him, and it felt good. Felt like happiness, honestly, and... And she sighed contentedly as she kissed him, head tipped just so, her belly against his and what a feeling that was. Skin to skin - especially skin she didn't bare very often at all. It was like every nerve in her skin was coming alive, and she was already so sensitive--

Oh. Oh, wow, she could feel his heartbeat everywhere they touched. Ohh wow.]

[She moved that little bit closer and he felt warm skin on his. It was different than a hand touching a hand, more intimate in how it felt, and he made a little sound, something that might have been a groan or a sigh as he tipped his head and let his lips part just a little. Just enough to let his tongue come out and see what she tasted like. To see if she tasted as good when he kissed her as her neck had.]

[She'd had a few boyfriends. None serious, but enough that, out of curiosity more than anything else, she'd learned the basics of kissing. When she felt Steve's lips part, when she felt his tongue against her lips, she opened them. Welcomed him. Her fingertips pressed against his shoulders and...

For once, she didn't float up. She let him be taller than her, let herself be smaller and slighter. But she was bold enough to touch her tongue to his and hopefully let him see that that was more than fine.]
