Meet cute  
It's amazing how many beginnings, in stories and in life, are based on chance. A serendipitous encounter, a chance meeting, a happy accident -- life would be dull if it weren't for the curveballs flung by a playful universe. Just when you think you've got your life figured out -- splat! -- everything changes.

You may have just had a meet-cute, in which two potential romantic leads are thrown together in a contrived and atypical, oftentimes, but not always, over-the-top manner.

In short, the meet-cute is a solution to a perennial screenwriter's problem: "We have a love story between two main characters who will presumably bicker for 90 minutes and then fall in love in the last 10. If they're so dissimilar, how do we get them together in the first place?" If the meeting itself is kind of a joke (a chance collision, a mistaken identity, a hookup with a stranger who turns out to be your ex's lawyer the next day), it's a meet-cute.

We've had plenty of memes that deal with being in a relationship and even some that look at the ends of them, but here's one about the what-comes-before: the meeting!

HOW TO PLAY
  • Comment with your character and preferences.
  • Tag around.
  • Use the RNG to determine your prompt or just go with it.

PROMPTS
  1. No Good Bad Day: Everything is going wrong. You've spilled coffee all over yourself, missed you bus, and things aren't looking up. And to add insult to injury, you've run into somebody! Shouldn't they look where they're going?
  2. Is This Seat Taken?: The last seat on the bus/plane/carriage/dragon is next to a mysterious (or not so mysterious) stranger.
  3. Table for Two: All the other tables are filled, so you're placed with someone else when you thought you'd be dining alone.
  4. Love Hurts: You've accidentally fallen off of something, driven your car into a snowbank, or any other number of calamitous things. You're not badly hurt - though you may be dinged up - but you definitely need help. You need a good Samaritan.
  5. Hope That Didn't Belong to Someone: You've accidentally ruined an item, and you have to meet the owner. Hope they won't be too mad...it wasn't really your fault!
  6. Wait, Them?: You met someone earlier, didn't get on, only to learn later that the two of you will be working together in a close capacity. What can you do? Maybe you can ask for another partner...
  7. No Rest and Relaxation: You're staying at a hotel or a cabin, only to realize that your room has been double booked. Well, you're not leaving. The other person will just have to!
  8. They're After Me: You were having such a peaceful day before that asshole came running by, being chased by the [insert authority figures here]. Why'd they have to pull you into it?
  9. Saved: ...or the shoe's on the other foot, and they've saved you from danger. Doesn't mean you have to like them, though.
  10. Thought You Were Someone Else: You never forget a face- except when you do. Or think the face is someone else's. Maybe someone you cared for...
  11. Arranged Marriage: You've never met this person, but you hope you like them, for the good of your...oh, DAMN IT. You hate their guts.
  12. Ooops, I Did It Again: You totally didn't mean to run over that guy or hit her over the head with a frying pan. You're not heartless enough to not nurse them back to health, right?
  13. I Have a Proposition: You're not keen on each other, but you're working together for your own purposes. But at least feelings won't get in the way...nope.

Per Wikipedia:

usually burdensome, characteristic. The help may take the form of providing and evaluating relevant information, relating personal

And now you know. And knowing's half the battle.

Take My Hand!


Take My Hand moments happen whenever a character is about to fall off a cliff, into a Lava Pit, or out of a speeding car and another one tries to catch their hand.

First, it's not granted that their hands will reach at all.

Second, even if they do grasp hands the audience is kept wondering for several seconds if the rescuer will be able to pull the falling character up or if their hand will slip.

The whole act is typically accompanied by phrases like "Don't give up!" and "I'm not going to let you fall!", and occasionally a slow-motion shot of slipping fingers.



How to Play

  1. Choose your role: catcher or faller? (Do you even want to be caught?)

  2. State your preference: gen, shipping, whatever. Set a scene if you like!

  3. Tag around!

Maybe you've always had a child with this person, and you've been doing your best to be a good and competent parent. Oooor, the two of you have ended up with a "daughter" somehow, perhaps out of thin air or a liaison from the past or anything, really. If all that's not hard enough, there's more! For some reason, you have to enter her into America's new favorite pastime: glitz beauty pageants!

In case you haven't seen the Emmy award winning program Toddlers and Tiaras (you're really missing out), a glitz beauty pageant is:

A type of pageant that allows makeup on young children and babies as well as clothing covered in rhinestones. These pageants focus specifically on beauty. The opposite of a glitz pageant would be a natural/ scholarship pageant. Contestants also wear hair extensions, flippers (fake teeth), and are dressed to look much older than they really are.

So you're about to be thrust into the world of glitz, glamour, and crying children. How do you feel? Are you horrified at this exploitation of kids, annoyed you have to be here, or excited to see your little girl take down the competition?

HOW TO PLAY
  1. There are two ways to play!
    • AND SUDDENLY, CHILD: You and this person have somehow come into possession of a little girl who is to compete in a pageant.
    • AU: This is your actual daughter that the two of you have raised.
  2. Comment with your character, putting your character's name, canon, preferences, etc.
  3. Comment to others and play out the "parents." Handwaving/NPCing the actual child will probably be best, but if you want to bring a third person in, go for it!
  4. If you have a young child character, they may actually be in the pageant.
  5. Though girls are more likely to be in pageants, boys can be, too.
PROMPTS
  1. I want to be a star: For some reason, the little girl you're taking care of is going to be in a pageant. Are you a willing participant, or do you oppose this?
  2. Practice makes perfect: You have to come up with a routine that's sure to wow the judges, and that means time invested.
  3. Preparing for the pageant: Dresses, hair, makeup, oh my! It's a painful process, so it might take both of you to get this done. Don't forget your flipper, because snaggle teeth are not a good look, even on a five year old.
  4. Beauty: Beauty is the most important part of the pageant, and where the bulk of the score comes from. Go out there, support your kid, and hope they don't fall off the stage!
  5. Outfit of choice: This is where their personalities shine through. Any cute costumes go! Just remember that "undead mutant" might not go over well.
  6. Talent: The portion where your little princess gets to show off her superpowers and control over the mortal mind. Or her ability to hoola hoop. Either one.
  7. Crowning: So, who won? Not everyone gets to take home a crown, and you might have to nurse hurt feelings and tiny bruised egos.
  8. After: Build your kid's confidence back up by buying them a pony or taking them to McDonald's.

THE TUNNEL OF LOVE MEME


Surely you've seen this sort of ride before, if not in person, on TV or in cartoons. The tunnel of love has become a staple, almost a trope in itself, of both comedy and romance. Most traditional versions lend themselves very well to that kind of awkward entertainment: the tiny, often swan-shaped, boats for two, the smelly and questionable water, and the garish colors and music that accompany the ride. Yes, there's a certain appeal to them.

Well, you'll see that soon enough. The Tunnel of Love you've found yourself on now has all this and more, including a fence that separates the two waiting lines. That means there's no way to know who you'll end up riding with. It might be a complete stranger or someone you know very well. Hopefully, whoever you get, the two of you will have a nice little ride together.

That is, if you can ignore some of the more...odd effects.
