Take My Hand!

Take My Hand moments happen whenever a character is about to fall off a cliff, into a Lava Pit, or out of a speeding car and another one tries to catch their hand.

First, it's not granted that their hands will reach at all.

Second, even if they do grasp hands the audience is kept wondering for several seconds if the rescuer will be able to pull the falling character up or if their hand will slip.

The whole act is typically accompanied by phrases like "Don't give up!" and "I'm not going to let you fall!", and occasionally a slow-motion shot of slipping fingers.

How to Play

[ It was sloppy from the start; not that either of them were incapable but neither of them could have foreseen the shit show that would unfold. Well, the shittier shit show from the norm. BOWs and enemies were one thing and unstable terrain was another. Leon had lost his grip at the last second, but at least the transmitter had been stuck in place. He managed to slam it against the wall at the last second before the ground violently shook. The ground was caving in as the blow from that BOW had nearly made the building collapse. The structure was still standing but they had been on the rooftop when it happened.

At first he though for sure he would need to be the one to take Jill's hand to keep her from falling, but now it seemed the roles were reversed as she had managed to steady herself at her position just below him. Leon finds himself grasping for the ground that's escaping him fast only to no avail. He feels his figure take a tumble past her and he thinks for sure he's going over the edge. His hand outstretches for a last ditch attempt at trying to make a grab for something. The suspense is killing him on the inside as he makes a face outwardly showing some of that desperation. He's close enough where she could grab his hand but he doesn't anticipate it. As of now he's bracing for a fall and running scenarios of how he could possibly make it out alive from this. ]

[ The mess they were currently in was something that neither of them had control over; it just was a true slippery slope where any action or even inaction would intensify the situation, but they were at the point of no return now. They were more focused on escape than they were fighting, but they'd still have to take the BOWs -- one in particular -- down if they could. Admittedly, a collapsed building might take care of all of them, but they had to ensure their own safety first.

She'd almost fallen, her movement fast as her footing nearly fails her; she'd stumbled as she stepped on a crack and the foundation beneath her had shifted. She steadies herself with ease, but keeps moving, looking for him every step of the way so she doesn't get too far ahead or behind him. When he tumbles, though, she's easily upset, her eyes widening impossibly before she steadies herself a little back beyond the edge of where they stand and she reaches for him with both hands; her crouch is steady enough that he shouldn't pull her over, but it would be better if she had something to hold onto and jerk them back toward. She doesn't trust anything attached to the floor beneath them right now, though. ]

Shit! Leon! [ Her hand gets his hand -- more dangerous than a wrist or arm -- and she tries to use her other hand to help guide him into climbing up. He's not like her so he can't just swing and flip himself upward. He's got enough body strength that he should manage, but to her knowledge there's nothing below him to help climb up on, just empty air. ] We've got this, alright? Just hold onto me and I'll help pull you up.
