| Hot springs are considered rejuvenating in many cultures, from Asia to Europe. All that natural heat and the minerals from the earth flow through water and call throngs of people to come and enjoy the resorts that pop up around these wonders of the world. You, however, would never go to one. You're insecure about baring it all in public; maybe you don't even go out in public because your appearance would make the uncaring crowd lash out at you. Maybe it's just not your scene. You could not know anything about hot springs! But you're at one now, no matter what, and you're going to be taking a skinny dip - or near it - whether you like it or not. To make matters worse, you're sharing your little pool with someone else. Hey, you don't know them! This place could not even be in your world or your time. There's little options otherwise, though, so you might as well enjoy the time you're here. Soak and relax, let those tired muscles get a break. Soon, all your troubles, your worries, your ailments, your imperfections all begin to fade away...as do your misconceptions. You know this person, don't you? Yes, you do. Actually you know them very well. You're with them. You came with them, it seems to you, to reconnect, a lover's getaway. After all, what's more steamy than a hot springs? So go ahead, do what you've intended to do. No one will mind if you get a little frisky in the springs if it helps out your relationship; besides, what do you think some of the extra natural minerals are for? They'll certainly help you get hot under the collar, not that you'll need that. Your (new) mutual history should be enough.

So you two are at the same place at the same time. So what? It doesn't matter that you're hanging out, willingly or unwillingly, since you're both here. No big deal. Maybe you just ended up here...or maybe, okay, maybe you came here together. That's not important, because this? Totally. Not. A. Date. (Only it is and you're too shy or too stubborn to admit it - or you only realized this outing's nature, like, a minute ago yourself. At any rate, awkwardness and possibly even adorableness abounds.)

  Despite popular conjecture, romance doesn't have to be overwrought or over the top like a Shakespearean tragedy or a terrible Nicholas Sparks novel. Sure, there needs to be some intimacy to make it, well, romantic, but there are plenty of relationships that blur the lines between "friendship" and "relationship" in every way they can. In fact, your romantic partnership is just like that. It feels like you're dating your best friend, really, and in most cases, isn't that the best, most healthy thing? You're completely comfortable around them, and you never have to worry about being at odds - most of the time. You hang out, you bro out, you do things you both enjoy. And sometimes, you can even kiss or make out. How awesome is that? Maybe you were friends first and this is just a natural outgrowth of what you started, or you could prefer all relationships to be more bromances. Of course, throwing a twinge of romantic love or sexual attraction into the mix and even the best friendships can get...complicated. If anyone can beat the odds, though, it's you guys! We're rooting for you.

a sci-fi AU shipping meme  Honestly, it was quite the inevitability: with a population boom and diminishing resources, Earth has become so overpopulated that living comfortably has become impossible. This should be the end of the line...but humans are an industrious lot. As soon as space travel was possible, intrepid groups began to set out into the cosmos to find new suitable habitats among the stars. Of course, with discovery came the inevitable commercialism - companies use their luxurious, branded ships to shuttle average Joes across the sea of space so they can settle on equally luxurious, branded colonies promising answers to dreams and a chance at a new life. The price tag is steep, and one must be willing to be put in the necessary cryosleep (space travel is still a long, arduous journey, despite the fancy vessels), yet many are finding this voyage an attractive one. And you, lucky you, have found yourself, through your own wealth, a valuable skill set, or virtually selling your soul, a passenger on one of these ships bound for a colony. Everything you'd ever hoped for will soon come true, in what will be for you a blink of an eye. In around one hundred years, you'll begin a new life when you wake up. When you wake up, which is sooner than it should be. You wake, confused and disoriented, to realize there's been an accident. Your pod, one among thousands, has malfunctioned and you've been roused with ninety years still left on the itinerary. Ninety years for you to age. To get old, to die long before you reach your destination. Ninety years to be alone. Only you're not alone, it seems, as someone else has been ejected from their pod, as well. The two of you are complete strangers, left by the hands of fate to see no one living being but each other throughout several miles of twisted, cold steel and space locks. At the very least, however, you have years to get to know them. ...and, perhaps, more.  ONE SMALL CHANGE MEME Everything is set in stone. ... Right? Fate is fate, there's no way to change anything. Maybe. But in another world, maybe something is different. Maybe someone that was evil isn't. Maybe the directive of a group has altered just slightly. Maybe, maybe, maybe. This isn't about choice so much as existence: things have always been this way. You don't know anything different. An AU, maybe, but on the smallest scale. What does this tiny change do to the whole world? Is it the butterfly effect? Does not much change at all? It's something to think about. |
 It's fairly simple, really, no royalty required. One of you is the "princess:" sweet, gentle, possibly energetic, always full of life and innocence. The other is the "knight:" stoic, or at least serious about protecting that one special person, dedicated, strong, a fighter. And the two of you are in love, even if one...less expressive than the other. Together romantically or not, there's something that connects you, most likely a driving need to protect. But don't let the normal conventions full you, the "princess" (or "prince," as it may be, because the terms here are gender neutral) is just as important. Someone has look to the emotional well-being and happiness of the "knight," and often, those "knights" need a lot of help.
