Of course, with discovery came the inevitable commercialism - companies use their luxurious, branded ships to shuttle average Joes across the sea of space so they can settle on equally luxurious, branded colonies promising answers to dreams and a chance at a new life. The price tag is steep, and one must be willing to be put in the necessary cryosleep (space travel is still a long, arduous journey, despite the fancy vessels), yet many are finding this voyage an attractive one. And you, lucky you, have found yourself, through your own wealth, a valuable skill set, or virtually selling your soul, a passenger on one of these ships bound for a colony. Everything you'd ever hoped for will soon come true, in what will be for you a blink of an eye. In around one hundred years, you'll begin a new life when you wake up. When you wake up, which is sooner than it should be. You wake, confused and disoriented, to realize there's been an accident. Your pod, one among thousands, has malfunctioned and you've been roused with ninety years still left on the itinerary. Ninety years for you to age. To get old, to die long before you reach your destination. Ninety years to be alone. Only you're not alone, it seems, as someone else has been ejected from their pod, as well. The two of you are complete strangers, left by the hands of fate to see no one living being but each other throughout several miles of twisted, cold steel and space locks. At the very least, however, you have years to get to know them. ...and, perhaps, more. After all, tragedy makes strange bedfellows and emotions may just run high when there's only one other person to turn to. Moment of Truth: It may be the cabin fever, but you can't imagine feeling stronger for any person than you do for your companion. You have to tell them that you want to be with them - in a romantic sense, not just a "we share the same space ship" sense. Life Together: You've fallen into a sort of domestic routine. The Obligatory Smut Option Trying Times: The shit has hit every fan in the vicinity; the ship itself might fall apart or hit an asteroid. Think fast and save yourselves! Fight: You're in a tiff or you've broken up. This won't get awkward, will it? Unhappy Ending: One of you dies before the other, leaving one alone. Happy Ending: You may not have reached your destination, still - you did find a new home.

To go where no one else had gone, and be part of something that had never been done before--building a new civilization in the far reaches of the galaxy. He'd memorized emergency protocols until he could recite them in hos sleep, but no amount of training could have possibly prepared him for the moment that one of those hypothetical emergencies became reality.

He came out of stasis, and he knew right away that it was too early. It was too queit. His eyes scanned the room, searching for threats, or survivors, or for some indicated of what had gone wrong, but all the other pods were still closed.
