A Taste of What You Could Never Have

The grass is always greener on the other side, it seems, not matter who you are. Still, there are some who've never even dreamed of seeing that lively shade because it's not even in the realm of possibility.

Maybe you've not once considered what it would be like to live what most would consider a normal, peaceful life. You're too plagued by danger or ostracized, and if you did think about how things could be different, you'll only bring pain over what can't be.

Except it can be.

You've woken up where. If you live in constant violence, you now have peace. If you're an outcast, you're now accepted by others. And more than that, you also have a happy home with a lover - something you may have thought you'd never have - and a perhaps even a family. You may or may not have desired that. Everyone else here thinks it's always been like this, but you know the truth.

...don't you? Or are you the confused one, and this the reality?

At any rate, how do you take this new "life?" Are you suspicious? It's understandable to be; you know who you are and where you stand, and you don't remember any of this. Could it be a trap all along? Is this a world where you wish you could stay or might actually try to do so? If that's the case, you may want to pull away and remind yourself that there must be an illusion here. Do you find the whole affair bittersweet? There's also the possibility that you'll learn from this. All things considered, what made your life so hard may also be what made you.

How to Play

Blank comments are fine, too. Remember, all characters will have different concepts about what normal, peaceful, or ideal are.

Everyone has hopes and aspirations for the future, in some shape, fashion, or form. The dedicated may call them dreams or goals; the extremely dedicated will call it "certainty." Even if you have no thoughts at all or at the very least no thoughts about anything aside from the here and now, you at least have some idea of where you won't be days, months, or years from now. For some, there's even a plan about who they'll be with romantically. That's not too strange, right? Sometimes, you just know, whether it's a childhood friend, a longtime significant other, a crush...

...or no one at all because you're a hard, blackened shell incapable of love.

Of course, as with all paths in life, like friendships and true callings, relationships aren't always cut and dry. That person you were so sure you'd end up with? Well, it didn't work out. Perhaps they found someone else, you two just broke up, they didn't like you in that way, what have you. But you aren't alone - in fact, the person you actually have now is like you'd never imagined. Whether you just met them or they've always been, against all odds you two are an item. They could be completely different from you and against your type, making it all the stranger you are where you are. They could be a fellow reject like you who found solace in a second choice. Don't worry, despite the baggage surrounding the concept, second choices can be the better one all along!

And as for you blackened, hard shell? It's not hard for a love to be unexpected for you, since you never expected to feel at all.

Nature is no respecter of persons, my friends. Whether it be childhood friends, newlyweds, or one-night stands, a single decision or accident can change everything, and there will be three people instead of just two.

Congratulations! The characters in these threads and those who reply to them are now expecting babies, no matter what their unique situation may be. Of course, depending on the characters, this might go over like a lead balloon. But wait! Even if the decision to have a baby was made and was consensual, the process is no walk in the park. There is lots to do...and only nine months to do it. Nine potentially drama-filled months.

HOW TO PLAY
  • Comment with your character, preferences, etc.
  • Not all options here are fluffy and happy. Some are potentially angsty or possibly triggering. Tread lightly. Be sure to mention what you want and what you don't want.
  • Reply to others.
  • For this, male characters can get pregnant because why not.

Daemon AU  

DAEMONS

A dæmon is the animal embodiment of a person's inner self - their soul made corporeal. In childhood, daemons can shapeshift; around puberty, they settle into one form which represents a person's personality.

Daemons can talk, are typically of the gender opposite their human, and can't go more than a few yards from their human half. Any pain felt by a person is felt by their daemon, or vice versa, and to touch someone else's daemon is painfully intimate and the greatest taboo.

RNG:
1. meetings (mean snap judgments; what do you think of someone with a snake soul?)
2. fight scenes (are a lot more badass with a lion at your side, or tricky when your weak spot is a poodle)
3. rescues (are difficult if your daemon can't drag theirs to safety. you won't break the taboo, will you?)
4. cuddling (gets weird when your alligator snuggles up to their rabbit)
5. confined spaces (are more claustrophobic with the risk of touching someone's soul)
6. poor conditions (when your cat can't swim or your dragonfly might freeze)
7. lies (are harder to tell with daemons telegraphing body language)
8. touching (from a torturer is horrifying; from someone intimate, it's powerful)
9. abnormalities (include same-gender daemons, limitless separation ranges, or inhuman lack of a daemon)
10. suddenly (everyone has daemons. they didn't before. what the hell.)

Want to rehash a canon scene, now with daemons? Make up your own prompt? Just here to dump your "why X has Y animal" in a toplevel? Go nuts.

Giving someone a beautiful bouquet of blossoms is a universal sign of romantic intent. Even you, Mr. or Mrs. Zero-Romantic-Bones-in-Their-Body, can't screw that up...

① crushin' → On the person, not the flowers. Hopefully not the flowers.
② awkward → Y-you're so pretty, and so are these blooms. Just- just take them!
③ suave → A rose for your sweet.
④ bonus points → Asking them out? Okay. Asking them out with flowers? Major score!
⑤ out of character → You're the last person in the world who'd get anyone a gift, much less something mushy like flowers. But that's how crazy this person's got you going. You're totally smitten.
⑥ singles act → You only need one gorgeous flower to make an impact; everything else is set dressing. Plus, one flower's easy to find.
⑦ reminded → You know they like this stupid stuff and for some reason, flowers make you think of them. You don't get it, but hey. Giving them away gets the dumb plants off your hands.
⑧ coincidence → There aren't for them, not at all. You didn't get any flowers with them in mind! But since you have them, you may as well give 'em away.
