DAEMONS
A dæmon is the animal embodiment of a person's inner self - their soul made corporeal. In childhood, daemons can shapeshift; around puberty, they settle into one form which represents a person's personality.

Daemons can talk, are typically of the gender opposite their human, and can't go more than a few yards from their human half. Any pain felt by a person is felt by their daemon, or vice versa, and to touch someone else's daemon is painfully intimate and the greatest taboo.

RNG:
1. meetings (mean snap judgments; what do you think of someone with a snake soul?)
2. fight scenes (are a lot more badass with a lion at your side, or tricky when your weak spot is a poodle)
3. rescues (are difficult if your daemon can't drag theirs to safety. you won't break the taboo, will you?)
4. cuddling (gets weird when your alligator snuggles up to their rabbit)
5. confined spaces (are more claustrophobic with the risk of touching someone's soul)
6. poor conditions (when your cat can't swim or your dragonfly might freeze)
7. lies (are harder to tell with daemons telegraphing body language)
8. touching (from a torturer is horrifying; from someone intimate, it's powerful)
9. abnormalities (include same-gender daemons, limitless separation ranges, or inhuman lack of a daemon)
10. suddenly (everyone has daemons. they didn't before. what the hell.)

[The only thing worse than a Scottish Time Lord is a Scottish Time Lord and his equally Scottish daemon - in this case, Gormlaith, who's taken the form of a badger this time around. Does she have a tiny pair of sunglasses? Who knows.]

[If asked, Ace would say that she's just passing through. This is (probably) not incorrect - she might be older now than she was, but so far she hasn't really felt a whole lot of desire to settle for good. But on the other hand, there's a surprising number of things that end up heading from Earth and the way she figures, having a spare set of eyes round the place can't hurt. It's a little less a home and more a sort of home base.

A...home base that she is currently away from, but she's never really stopped traveling and there isn't really much that needs her attention back on Earth anyway. (Plus after some of the latest events on Earth even she can't help but want to go elsewhere.)

Of course, one thing leads to another, and what had started out as a way to relax for a bit has devolved into ... well, something a lot more like what her life with the Doctor had been like - there's been no small amount of yelling, a handful of non-too-pleasant alien lifeforms (she recognizes the type, but not the species) and an awful lot of running.

It's at some point during that latter that she runs across the Doctor; while she recognizes neither him nor Gormlaith this time round, she's still much the same as she ever was and Sorcha is dogging her heels in the same old form she's always had.]

Olivia ( "Liv" for sort and "Olive" for when he wants to annoy her) is often more quiet than Jim but can be just as annoying in some ways. Sniffing at people and things, getting on her hind legs and grabbing things off of tables or shelves, and even chasing down people if Jim feels so inclined to chase after anyone.

Both are friendly and sociable but while Jim can throw a punch, Olivia bites. Hard. JSYK. ]

Physical taits: Her whole fur black, her eyes are the same shade of blue as Illya,and she is huge.

Personality: Much like her human counterpart she appears intimidating but is overall a kind soul; not the malicious figure people take her for. She's really protective of those who cares about, wary of strangers, and likes to play-fight.]

This definitely wasn't an ideal situation. Thankfully they hadn't been found yet and it seemed like the bad guys had assumed they'd left the building, but being confined in the small closet with Illya and both their Daemons was not very comfortable.

Especially since if he moved in the slightest the two men would end up touching one another's Daemons...and he didn't know how he felt about this. He trusted Illya implicitly, but he still wasn't sure they were at a place that they were so comfortable with one another like that.

Though he knew their Daemons were okay with each other. He'd seen Yana and Danielle curled up more often than not lately, but just because they were comfortable with one another didn't mean Illya would want him to touch Yana. Nor was he sure he was comfortable with the Russian touching Danielle. "Looks like we might be stuck in here for a while."
