THE BODYGUARD MEME

Being a bodyguard isn't all fun, games, and Whitney Houston power ballads. Look at the Secret Service, for example. There are huge potentials for mistakes which can cost you big. And while occasionally closer relationships form, in general it's still just a job, which means all the usual pitfalls of employment -- and a few higher stake ones, too. The question is, how good of a protector are you? And how well can you maintain your relationship with your employer on a professional basis?
RELATIONSHIPThese are not on a roll table. Rather, they're here to provide some possibilities. Keep in mind you can mix and match as you see fit!
Dislike: Sometimes you just get the short end of the stick. Maybe you have to protect the other person, but that doesn't mean you have to LIKE them. Alternatively, maybe the agency assigning you bodyguards send you the bottom of the barrel. Either way, we can only hope you don't cause more harm to each OTHER than an outsider might to your charge!
Loyalty: Neither like nor dislike. Just doing a job, and making sure you're doing it well. You both know who's in charge, and that's all it is.
Friends: It can happen. You two are with each other constantly, after all. It's hard not to find SOMETHING in common after all this time. Of course, don't let yourself forget that the bodyguard still has a job to do. Still, nobody said you two couldn't hang out while the bodyguard is watching over you.
Familial: You've come to see someone like a brother or a sister. Or maybe you're considerably older than the other person and see them like the child you never had. Either way, there's a definite bond of love and trust here, and you'll do anything to make sure you see them succeed in life.
Love: Yeah, it can happen, like in pretty much any job. But all sorts of problems start developing, don't they? Issues of power imbalances, or professional conduct. What happens when you start sleeping with your employer, for instance? This is where things REALLY get complicated.
Equals?!: Wait, who's protecting who again? Looks like the whole bodyguard thing is a technicality, based on how they seem just as capable of kicking butt as you do. How do you handle this?
SCENARIOS:1.
At Home: A bodyguard must be everywhere, including in the home. Sometimes this might lead to certain embarrassing moments. Or sometimes it's all pretty chill.
2.
Out on the Town: Shopping, taking in a movie, whatever. You two are together, and it's purely professional, right? The question is, even if you are doing something for fun, can the bodyguard lighten up long enough to notice?
3.
False Alarm: Oh, you thought that was an actual threat? Turns out it was just a cat, or a very startled neighborhood boy setting off a firecracker. What now?
4.
Taking the Hit: Somebody really IS after your charge! Time to see if you really are capable of taking that bullet. Or maybe you have to kick some butt. Either way, there's a lot more at stake here than just your paycheck!
5.
A Job Completed: Maybe the danger is passed. Maybe your contract is up. Either way, you can move on to your next job and protect someone else... or maybe you don't want to?
