6; The killing isn't fully necessary, if your characters manage to find a way to escape together somehow (though it shouldn't be an easy one), if both the muns would rather avoid that;

[ It was in the dead of night, that she found herself up and restless as usual, not due to her usual unease. But something else was bothering her, making her twist and turn in her bed until, finally, she gave up and made her way out of bed. Passing her sisters room in the hallway, she slid her hand against the door, feeling the wood brush against her fingertips. "Wake up", she muttered, after she made her way to the end up the hallway, then began pacing back and forth.

Her mind couldn't stop wondering back to the same subject she's been dreading for the past week. It was almost time. Her boss has finally decided that tomorrow will be the day they strike, for once and for all, bring back all that they have lost. But she couldn't understand how her boss could simply decide on something so... cruel? Was that the word she would desribe this with? She didn't know. But things were calm, her sister smiled at her in a way that made her forget all the misfourtune in her life, even if for a moment.

Why couldn't things stay the way they were?

She needed to talk to her, to give her a warning, a sign, anything. She didn't want to do this, but she had no choice. In desperation all she could muster was a small call, pulling her gown closer around herself in hopes of comfort. ]

Sestra. Wake up.

Everyone in Thedas knew about the Blights, knew about about Darkspawn and the Taint that they spread like a disease. It infected the body through the blood, all but rotting it from the inside out, leaving monstrosities controlled by the tainted Old Gods. It was a fate for which death was a mercy, with no known cure, only if it was caught early enough, the temporary respite of becoming a Grey Warden.

Dorian had known all this, at least in an academic sense. Had planned on staying as far as possible from darkspawn, at least as well as he could manage. But his attempts had come to naught, and he'd become infected, injured in an attack and infected with darkspawn blood. Just his luck.

No one, least of all Dorian, was sure exactly why the disease was progressing the way it was. The wound had... sort of healed, but it was clearly diseased, blackened and withering his leg, climbing and spreading. That didn't even account for the psychological toll, how Dorian could hear things, sense things that made him want to find the nearest cliff and jump off. But lately he had been too weak to do more than think of the sweet release that awaited him, let alone achieve it on his own. He didn't want to become a ghoul, the thought terrified him, every bit as much as the whispers that were steadily invading his mind. There was only one way out before that happened.

"Mavros... You know this isn't going to end well." He hated for it to end, and he had never wanted it to end like this.

A week after the confrontation that culminated in Alrik’s death and Marjara’s escape, Jack was still recovering from his injuries. He wasn’t officially confined to questers while he healed, but he was technically off-duty. It gave him too much free time to ruminate on what was actually keeping him up at night. It wasn’t the death of a comrade; Maker knew it disgusted Jack to think of that swine as such. If anything, Alrik got what he deserved.

This time, it wasn’t even the memory of the abomination. It was the lie. It took a trip to his favourite haunt and a quick jaunt to see the man behind the monster before Jack realized it. He didn’t regret Alrik’s death, nor helping the Dalish girl escape. Lying to Cullen, that’s what gnawed at his conscience.

His feet carried him along the familiar route to his Captain’s quarters, albeit more slowly than usual and with the aid of a cane. A welcome interruption, it seemed. The usual banter ensued, the sort of push-and-pull that defined their somewhat clandestine relationship, and then Cullen pulled him close and nerves worked his stomach into knots. He didn’t know what to expect from Cullen when the truth came out, so he couldn’t anticipate. The confession was padded with sweet words, another confession in its own right that left Jack exposed in ways he’d rather not be.

Cullen’s no fool and Jack didn’t lie as well as he liked to think. “I haven’t been entirely honest with you,” he began. Each word was slow, thoughtful, uttered as if being tasted for the first time. It didn’t help that his tongue felt like little more than a piece of dead meat in his mouth. “I haven’t told you because I’m afraid of what will happen if I do; to me, to this.” But he couldn’t keep it and risk Cullen finding out later, then questioning everything they’d shared.
