The Playground Meme

Most of us can remember the playground from our younger days. Swings, slides, monkey bars, merry-go-rounds and all manner of other things to play on and fall off of. Well here's another playground to enjoy. A big, brand new one filled with all those fun things you remember and new ones too. Are you a kid enjoying a day running around or maybe someone older trying to recapture youth? Either way, have fun! And don't worry, parents. There are benches under some nice shady trees to relax on.

Something's gone wrong. Maybe it was a little parasite, wiggling under your skin. Maybe something bit you that one night in the woods. Maybe someone decided they didn't like you and placed a curse on you, or maybe the local psychotic AI decided she liked you and filled you full of nanites. In any case, you're changing, body and soul. There's no way to stop it. No way to reverse it. And above all, it's the most painful thing you've ever experienced...

HOW IT WORKS:
- Tag the meme, leaving your character name, fandom, and any preferences in the subject line
- Other character tags you
- You tag back, and use the random number generator to select from the following options. Or don't, and do whatever strikes your fancy. If you roll something your character already is, either roll again, go for human, or pick something that otherwise suits your fancy.
- Other character reacts, or is free to also roll on the table
- Play out the results.
- Have fun, but respect the preferences of others.

Even before the relatively recent advent of the internet and email, people have found ways to communicate with others they're unable to talk to directly. Letters, telephone calls, smoke signals, messengers, messenger birds, and speaking through cracks in the walls are just some of the methods that have been utilized by the crafty. All of this, merely to be able to talk to someone? There must be something to it all.

Of course, there's always the potential that this non-face to face communication is rife with deception. If you're going to lie to someone, you might as well do it when you can get away with it easily. After all, they won't see what you're really like, and chances are they won't fact check. You can say whatever you'd like. Still, there's a reason concepts like penpals have lasted so long. There's liberation and a certain amount of truthfulness that comes from indirect correspondence. You can be yourself, spill secrets you wouldn't usually, and open yourself up to someone you can't see - sometimes more than you can around people you know in person. There's less fear of judgement that's inherent in the medium.

In this meme, you've come into contact with someone and become close. Very close. It doesn't matter which mode of communication you've used: modern characters may chat online while characters from a fantasy or historical setting use letters, with anything from magic to even talking through prison cells in between. What does matter is you've come to lo- like this person, maybe more than anyone you know in your "real" life. There's no one you know quite as well...and you've never even seen there face! You've heard their voice at best, most likely not even that, but you have no real idea what they actually look like. Does that matter, though?

Now you're going to know everything about them, because whether through accident or planning, you're meeting them face to face. Is this chance everything you dreamed of? No matter what, there's some part of you that's dying to see them because you care for them so much. Yet things might not always go so smoothly. One of you may have embellished a little - or a lot - about themselves, or even if they're exactly as they said, you might not have expected them to look like this. If there's been nothing but lies, however, it may not be so easy for you to forgive them.

And what about those sparks that flew through your correspondences? Will that chemistry continue, or even boil over, when you meet up?

Essentially, the premise of this meme is your character having a connection with someone they've met via letters, internet, smoke signals, whatever, them meeting up, and passionate sex happening. With potential drama, angst, or fluff depending on just how much everyone matches up to their "communication persona."
Reply with your character, preferences, the usual. In addition, you may want to mention how your character will come off in any kind of correspondence.
Reply to others. If need be, plot things out. You can also play out prior correspondences (letter sex, anyone?) or just the first meeting.

Probably the easiest meme ever. Post a blank with post with your character's name and universe. For the replier, the reply must be a dirty text to the poster's phone, or a picture of naughty parts. It can be on purpose ...or a mistyped number. ("Whoops, sorry I showed you my junk! ... But how was it?!") The original poster can reply to the text or ignore it. Have fun!

They say blood is thicker than water. Family is everything. But what about the family you choose, the ones that aren't necessarily bound to you by shared blood? Sometimes, they can be closer than anyone you're just related to through chance. You chose them, after all!

This person in particular is someone you're closer to than almost anyone; it's more than friendship, it's darn near familiar. No, more than darn near, it is familial. They may be younger than you, maybe even by a considerable margin, but they may not be. They could just seem that way, in their innocence or vulnerability. You want to protect them more than anything, keep them close, and spend time with them so their life can be improved by whatever you can do.

Officially or unofficially, you've adopted them as your own. Your family, with you as an older sibling or parent figure. This could make things better for them...or worse.

❤ Comment with your character info and the ilk. Be sure to include whether or not your character is more likely to be the adopter or the adoptee. Or both, I don't mind. No judgement here.

You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.

And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.

Except for when the two of you break the bounds of professionalism and feelings begin to flourish. Being in such close quarters may get you to see the other in a different light, and saving someone's life just may be the ultimate form of intimacy.

Could this be the real danger? To feel so strongly for the one you've sworn to protect...are you compromised?

How to Play
1. Comment with your character and preferences, being sure to put if you want to play the guard, the guarded, or either. Also, you may want to put if you prefer fluffy, angsty, or smutty interaction - or have no preference.

3. There are no prompts, because there are so many potential options there could be a hundred. Feel free to play anything: the beginnings of the relationship, just meeting, getting used to each other/not getting along at first, the obligatory first time, a threat on the protected's life and how their protector responds, how the feelings between the two has changed the protection, etc. Your only limit is you.
