Flowers, in the Victorian Era (1837-1901), were often used as means of communication when people could not openly say things that we do these days. Think about someone who is naturally repressed; now imagine a whole society focusing on being repressed. You can see why lovers needed some sort of secret code. Poor things.

No longer used much, there are some remaining, well-known meanings—roses inspiring passion and love are a classic example. So, grab a bouquet and give it to someone special. Beware of what certain flowers could say, though. Not all flowers were used happily.

[in one of haruka's finer displays of uncommunicative gestures, he's been lingering around rin lately. it's not that obvious - in fact, it's unclear if haru even notices his own behavior, but makoto definitely does. maybe rin does too. it's like he's magnetized to rin whenever iwatobi and samezuka have joint practices together.

but it goes beyond their swimming, which is the most alarming part. it's not limited to the bubble of haru's world when he's near a pool and near rin at the same time. whenever they're all hanging out, haru ends up next to rin somehow. consistently. it's not like they're talking much outside of the group, because haru is bad at that (and still barely touches his phone), but it's still different.

it's late afternoon by the time they're finished spending time at nagisa's house, and rin is about to head to the train station.] I'll walk you. [haru blurts it to the surprise of everyone, and then promptly walks outside.]

[When Nasch found the single red rose and violet tied together in his locker, he was a little surprised. However the note, neatly typed, stated "I have something important to tell you. Stay after classes are over by your locker" and was from his secret admirer.

It didn't take long for Nasch to figure out it was Durbe. Anybody with half a clue would have known it was Durbe. It was his worst kept secret and everything about this screamed of him. Not that Nasch minded. Durbe was his friend and someone incredibly special to him. The feelings were returned and during the whole day, Nasch wondered if he should just save the poor guy some trouble and just tell him how he felt. But it was honestly a little fun to watch him keep looking at clocks and seem distracted through the day. He was clearly nervous. Perhaps it was unfair, but Nasch couldn't help but be amused.

When the end of the day came, Nasch waited by his locker, toying with the red rose he'd received. The violet seemed too delicate for that.]

[They were in Italy for a world meeting and it was in Rome. The area was nice and Poland couldn't stand to just be in a suit and tie, holed up in some room with yelling nations trying to outshout the other.

That's why Poland wanted to check out his and Italy's favorite restaurant with Lithuania because oddly, Lithuania never did want to come hang out with him and Italy. There would be no excuse today, though no Italy. He had to play host. Poor guy.

As Lithuania got ready for the world meeting, Poland kept it casual and before Lithuania could get his tie on, Poland sprung it.] Let's ditch the meeting, Liet. Let's go hang out.

In gratitude for his assistance, she offered him some fresh cut roses from the shop. Well, Thor had no need for flowers... but perhaps Jane would like them? [He is a man of wealth and taste, good manners and noble pedigree, and there are things of this world that are forever out of his reach. Like a relationship with another man's wife. Many an eyebrow would be raised should word of his feelings ever bleed into the collective awareness of high society — that network of upper-class souls that he had been raised to navigate with the finesse expected of the Tomoe family heir. Not so much because it was Daisy Buchanan that had captured his attention, but because he was not, it seems, content to settle for some other, unattached woman that could rival her in beauty. Just what was so special about her? would have been some of the scandalized murmurs, among others.

So it was that Daisy would have been lost to him......

The only striking thing comes at the end: a polite request to meet in a private secluded cafe at dusk.

He waits there now, fingers tented as he regards the black depths of his tea.]
