Flowers, in the Victorian Era (1837-1901), were often used as means of communication when people could not openly say things that we do these days. Think about someone who is naturally repressed; now imagine a whole society focusing on being repressed. You can see why lovers needed some sort of secret code. Poor things.

No longer used much, there are some remaining, well-known meanings—roses inspiring passion and love are a classic example. So, grab a bouquet and give it to someone special. Beware of what certain flowers could say, though. Not all flowers were used happily.

So let's go to the pool. [there's a gleam in his eyes when he looks at rin this time. maybe rin will know exactly what he means - it's not likely they'll be able to use iwatobi's pool this late in the day.

[haru wanting to go to the pool and swim? shocking. but it has been too long since they swam together (since last practice and clearly that's too long for people like them) and so he grins.]

C'mon. [he knows haru will know what he means by that.]

[of course he knows. rather than respond verbally, haru breaks into a jog - they didn't agree to actually race by running, but still. the sooner they reach the station, the better.

rin always knows how to motivate him.]

[maybe it isn't a race, but rin's jogging to try to be faster to him anyway and see who gets to the train first. it's just his competitive streak, always coming through.

and really, they both know how to motivate each other because he's overjoyed knowing he'll be swimming with haru again even if they do joint practices. once is never enough.]

[rin manages to beat him to the station by a few heartbeats, of course, but haru fares better than he would have months ago. he's only a little flushed, catching his breath more quickly.

they don't have to wait long for the train. haru lapses into silence between them - it doesn't feel too awkward. although it's probably strange when he takes the seat directly next to rin, given his usual rule of personal space. don't ask...]

[rinchansan]

[that victory rin doesn't take too seriously considering haru still isn't at his best in that department.

but what rin does take seriously is the fact that haru sits next to him. considering it's later in the day and after all the workers have gone home there's empty seats. haru doesn't need to sit so close to him and he glances before looking off to the side.]

Already have your swimsuit on, right? Like always?

[relays]

[haru doesn't make a show of it, as quiet as usual, although their shoulders are close enough to bump gently when the train pulls away from the station. a part of him is already used to rin clinging onto him all the time, so... isn't it normal for them to be close physically? maybe he's reading into it too much.

at that, haru looks at rin with a flat expression.] ... Yeah, why? Do you? [never mind that he doesn't have a change of clothes.]

[rinchansan]

[it's normal for rin to touch him and rin has no issue with the touching part. really, he never would. he's a much more clingy person than haru is. well, he was and he's learning to be again. but even now he's still more touchy than haru. most people are more than haru. haru's always been more distant and rin thinks that's one reason why he felt the need to always latch onto him. make up for that distance. other than the selfish desire for the relay and haru's swimming skills, but that was just a given.

rin laughs, though.] Yeah, no. We don't all wear our swimwear like that. [a friendly tease.] We'll need to stop to my room real quick. Nitori should be out.

[relays]

[haru thinks about that for a total of twenty seconds, casting a glance at rin from the side.]

I'll meet you at the pool.

[he has a one-track mind, sorry.]

[rinchansan]

[he really should have expected that.]

Some things really never do change. [he at least sounds more amused by the whole deal.] Will you still remember the race by the time I get there?

[relays]

[he gives rin a pointed look.] Of course. [when it comes to racing rin, he won't pass up the opportunity. when it comes to swimming with rin at all, actually.]

You'll just have to catch up. [so don't take forever getting ready... and as haru says this, they pull up to the station near samezuka.]

[rinchansan]

[rin does know that haru wouldn't give up swimming with him for anything. really, he'd have to be a complete idiot not to know that, but it's still nice to have that knowledge secured for him.

getting up from his seat once the train is stopped to leave, he gives haru a confident smirk.] I won't be long, but you'll be hearing those words from me once I get there.

[relays]

Then hurry up. [yeah, rin is good at resurrecting the competitive side of him. the walk to samezuka's entrance is short, and then they break off - haru manages to get to the pool successfully. since the pool is about the only location here he knows, aside from rin's dorm room.

haru's quick to squeeze in a warm-up lap, since shedding his clothes only takes a few seconds. he'll just be floating by the time rin shows up.]

[rinchansan]

[he would have said 'see you soon' but haru's already gone. seriously one track mind.

though rin hurries to his dorm and, like he had assumed, nitori isn't there. which is great because he would have asked a million questions about why he was getting changed into his swimsuit and really, rin likes nitori but he doesn't want the distraction. once he gets to the pool, he struts in. all confidence and smirks.]

Ready to lose?

[haru resurfaces with a ripple and swims to the edge of the pool closest to rin, hooking his arms over the edge.]

I could say the same thing. [climbing out, he shakes his head, whipping water from his hair like a dog.] You took too long.

[rinchansan]

Yeah, well, not all of us have your gift of tearing clothes off in under three seconds. [which is a strange gift. is it even a gift?

stretching his limbs and getting warmed up, he pins haru with a serious look.] All that matters is I'm here.

[relays]

[once he reaches the edge of the pool, haru hefts himself up, dripping water everywhere. he returns that serious look. he always takes rin seriously when they race.]
