Life is hard. You can go through rough patches and over bumps, and sometimes it feels as though you're definitely worse for the wear, both physically and mentally. It's nice to have someone - someone more than a friend - there for you in those times...even if you don't think you want them or deserve them. But they're here, and they'll take care of you.

How to Play:
* This is a shipping meme for more tender, soft moments, but a little more serious than your usual "fluff." It's for people who've been broken down by their experience and those who wish to heal them.
* Comment with your character/your preferences. You may also want to specify whether your character will be the one "cared for" or the one doing the "caring" + pertinent information, but for most effectiveness, it's best to be open to both.
* Comment around.

1. Know You've Been Hurt By Someone Else: There are scars left on their heart from a past relationship or fling, and you have to let them know you're not the same way.
2. Can Tell By the Way You Carry Yourself: The person you have feelings for is one of those "cold stone wall" types who pushes people away. Can you get past that?
3. I've Asked About You: You've only heard bad things about this person, but you don't believe it.
4. What's a Life with No Fun: Lighten up a bit! You'd do anything to bring a smile to their face.
5. Please Don't Be So Ashamed: You have a big, BIG secret you don't want the other person to find out about, because surely they wouldn't want to even be near you if they did.
6. I've Had Mine, You've Had Yours: You've both had problems, and it could help to compare wounds so they can begin to heal.
7. Those Lies Heal: Protecting your loved one is more important that the truth, isn't it? It's a lie, but there are good intentions here.

[ Hiei had, slowly and carefully, managed to worm his way out of Kurama's steady hold that night, and by some miracle not woken him in the process. It was a rare occurrence, considering he usually only escaped the redhead's grasp and the siren call of his bed sheets when he managed to sneak in the window late at night. And even then, the fire demon was fast to announce his presence by nuzzling the youko's face and sliding in beside him under the covers. This night in particular, though, something is off.

Yet again, earlier in the evening, he'd been forced to lie about the status of Yukina's "long lost brother" - yet again he'd given her the blunt lie that he was dead, lost to the river waters or vicious demons who took no prisoners and saw no reason to save babes that could do nothing for them. These were the cold hard facts of the Makai - the way that demons had lived for hundreds - no, thousands - of years. And yet the little ice apparition still held fiercely to the idea that the twin she so longed for was alive, somewhere. There was a fire in those eyes that looked so close to his own every time she looked at him to refute his statements. She'd started nicely enough, but the older Yukina became, the less willing she became to accept his lie. Maybe she was in this particular denial because they would soon (in relative terms) be turning 100. Soon, Yukina would be giving birth to her first child. With none of her kind, or even her confirmed twin beside her to support her in the venture. At least, so far as she knew. Genkai insisted that she knew, even if she didn't tell him, and a part of him hopes that it's untrue.

Shame wasn't an emotion that occurred to the small fire demon very often, but when it came to his sister, and his past, it was the deepest welling pit in his chest that could possibly be dug through him.

Time and time again, he'd told himself that it was for the best. She didn't need to know his transgressions, didn't need a twin who had slaughtered thousands and was a felon, regardless of how he might have redeemed himself helping Urameshi. And yet the small child inside wants to tell her, wants to have the sister he'd always watched over in a more literal form. He'd spent most of his life watching over her, going through pain unimaginable in order to be able to do so over long distances. He can't regret the past - it was something that no one could change, and even if he could, he wasn't sure that he would. After all, he would not be the same man he was today, had he not had to claw and struggle, fight and bleed and nearly die for everything he had.

Of all things he'd been forced to do, Hiei finds himself most haunted by having to lie to her. In front of many people who knew the truth, at that. It was, possibly, his worst crime so far as Hiei was concerned.

He stares out in to the human world moonlight, the trees outside Kurama's home swaying in the breeze of darkened night, the moon giving everything a haunting, dream like glow, even as the fire demon himself has gone without sleep for going on 20 hours. Sleep was elusive, just like emotions. He blinks, and the wells of frustration and strange loneliness roll from his eyes - try to solidify, and instead fall as strange shards to the windowsill with the soft patter and tingle of gently dropped broken glass.

... Hopefully, Kurama would stay asleep. He could pretend he got too warm and wait for bastard tears to turn back in to water and dissolve in time. ]
