He knows it's wrong, but he can't help but steal glances at his first officer when they are on the bridge, even though his girlfriend is just a few desks away. They have managed to keep it a secret for a while now, but Jim's attraction to the Vulcan is growing stronger everyday. He smiles when the shift change arrives on the bridge and they all can get up and enjoy a good few hours off. He stands and cracks his back and looks around at his crew...waiting

The USS Enterprise is entering her five year voyage across uncharted space and with it the same crew that felt a kinship for this vessel more so now than ever. She's new but not without her invisible scars from the battles, the bloodshed, and tears. Many crew members lost their lives with Khan and the intent is to never have such a travesty happen again within or outside of Federation space. Starfleet is not a militia and their main object is exploration. This means more than anything to each and every single crew member aboard. They're explorers and with that comes curiosity and will to dare to dream.

For months leading back up to this, Spock and Uhura had spent many nights together trying to console that terrible nightmare that plagued the Vulcans mind. There is only so much she can do when these emotive illogical reasoning extend beyond anything Spock has ever felt.

That's why upon first having divulged any interest in this secretive relationship, the two gentlemen were crafty with their reasoning behind spending quite a great deal of time together. The further they explored, the easier these excuses became; hiding behind research and work. Uhura chalked it up to Spock's vigor behind what he does but she is ever suspicious to his waning affection.

Upon shift change, he's up and out of his own seat stretching. There's a few passing remarks between him and other crew members on the bridge while they all head to the lift that leads to the sleeping quarters and recreational area of the ship. All except one, straggling behind to quirk a brow, dark eyes settling on the Captain. There's a very small hint of a smirk there. "Fatigued from giving orders, Captain?" That's a back-handed remark if he's ever heard one, but it's merely meant to tease.

They aren't entirely subtle about their love. His devotion to her is, of course, clear as day, and her continued preferential favour was hardly far from unnoticeable. It was the depth that took a while for others to pick up on. The fact that he was a bastard son and a low-born knight, that she was a proper sort of lady who ought to be bearing sons for a proper sort of lord; the fact that they were staying up late gasping one another's names, stealing kisses in quiet halls and holding hands when no one was looking was what was objectionable.

Was what was pointed out to him while he walked through the hall to return to her side.

It meant returning to her had his hands bloodied. His features stony. His shoulders shaking just slightly.
