But how can he lie to her? How can he not give himself over to her care completely when he's clearly declared himself hers this way?

"I'm sure it's just bruising under the armour. Maybe-- some small cuts."

"Take it off," she orders, rolling up her sleeves. "If that's- really all it is, I can deal with that."

He moves without hesitation to unstrap the plates, to pull off the mail and drags off the fabric beneath. There are a good number of bruises on his arms, a few slight cuts where his plating had dug into his chest and shoulders in the scuffle.

Ice can be called for. Wet rags can carefully wipe away the blood. And if he thinks for a moment that she won't make him lie down so that she can fuss over him, he's sorely mistaken.

He'll accept it. He'll revel in it, even, as much as he can.

But he'll also catch her hand while she's got him lying down, try to reach her eyes. "It's not insignificant, you know. That people are talking."

She lets out a deep breath, then moves one hand to his cheek, looking him in the eyes. "I... I know," she says quietly. "But... I won't allow anyone to stop this, Mordred. I can't."

"You've much more to lose than I do, Cassandra." His face turns against her hand, lips seeking her palm.

"I would lose everything for you," she promises, carefully sinking to lay her cheek against his chest. "But we are not going to lose anything. I would lead an army in battle to defend... this. Us."

There's the slightest twinge as he settles, shifts her slightly off one of the larger bruises before tangling a hand in her hair.

"And I'll stand by your side."

His hand in her hair is soothing. She sighs before asking, "what would you do if... if I lost my status?"

"Leave the court." It's an easy answer, his fingers smoothing possessively through her hair. "Follow you to a new home."

"Then I have nothing to fear," she decides, pressing a soft kiss to his skin. "Right?"

"Not from me, Cass. Never from me." The arm around her pulls tighter, his lips seeking her forehead. "Shall we... try our luck here longer?"

She immediately moves closer, resting her lips against his throat as she murmurs, "I'd like to stay here until we absolutely cannot any longer. It's... comfortable."

His laugh is soft, eyes sliding shut as he arches his throat for her slightly. "Here in bed, you mean?"

She laughs softly, gathering up her skirts in one hand to properly climb onto the bed and snuggle up next to him. "Both here in this castle and here in bed, I should think," she says softly, lips dancing just out of reach from his.

[cadcamlan]

His arms shift accommodatingly to settle her in properly against himself, head turning to kiss the edge of her jaw. "I'm so glad."

"Even if you're suffering?" she asks quietly, thumb carefully running alongside one of the cuts.

[cadcamlan]

"I never suffer if you love me." To him, it's simple. Clean.

[bleakforecast]

She can't help but smile at that. "Have I ever told you that you're ridiculous? You are, you know."

"You've implied it now and then," he chuckles, twisting despite the way it tugs at his bruises so he can kiss her firmly on the cheek. "It's not scared me off yet."

"Hey-- lie down," she orders, though she's obviously pleased at the kiss. "You're not to get up till I allow it."

It takes a moment for him to settle down again, breath coming in a soft sigh. "If you insist."

She presses a firm kiss to his cheek, then drags her lips languidly across his jaw, nipping occasionally at his skin. He doesn't have to move for her to kiss him slowly, thoroughly, passionately.

His breath comes in a long, pleased sigh as his lips lift into a smile. If this is his fate, well, he's more than happy to resign to it, fingers shifting to trail possessively over her spine. "Ought to get into more fights, if this is the reception it receives."
