Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

[Whatever they'd fought about faded into obscurity days ago. Honestly, the topic didn't even matter, but the fallout? That was the worst they'd ever been-- bad enough to make Garrus grimace at the mere thought of the things said.]

[The couple of icy days between didn't seem like a cool down so much as a period of stilted awkwardness teetering on being borderline comical. In any case, something had to give, and if Garrus had to make the first move, then so be it. It was probably his fault to begin with-- he's no stranger to fucking up]

It never really goes away. The worst memories you own, your greatest regrets, they always find a way back to your when your guard is down. When you least expect them. Unguarded in sleep those memories come easier, dreams of days past. Empty rooms and halls and cavernous chambers filled with hats. Walls close in as the sound of the blade (snicker-snack) echoes all around, a threat and a warning. It's easy to forget that he's left Wonderland behind, that the curse is broken, that he has a home and Grace and Emma on top of all of that.

These things take a moment to come back to him once he jolts away in a cold sweat, staring at the ceiling with a racing heart and a hand that instinctively goes to his own throat. ]

Seeing the enterprise crew being rewarded for their efforts and sacrifices for Earth had been a sweet but bitter experience. The feelings of loss and confusion were still running rampant through the few remaining cadets at the academy and despite constant meditation Citali sometimes felt a bit like she was drowning in not only her own grief, but that of her peers as well.
This might be why, hours later, at a mass celebration she slipped out of the crowd of people surrounding Jim Kirk and company the second she was able, hoping to get some air at the bar. Leaning on the bar with she orders another drink and attempts to take a cool calming breath, in and out just as her mother taught her.

It doesn’t help and the poor girl presses her head to the bar with a frustrated sigh, ignoring the odd looks from the people sitting next to her.

[Breaking people out of prison was not something Veronica was used to, especially breaking someone out of maximum security on a prison island.

Still, Terra Zartacla was the perfect place for her to sneak though, lots of foliage and dark places. It took some doing, getting past the guards and the traps, but she finally reached the holding cells. She calls out in a hushed tone.]

The lights burn late in the offices of the information ministry. Down the hallway in the war rooms they switched off early, clerks and undersecretaries in a kind of shell-shock at the loss of their designated leader, others already considering how best to jostle for Abner's position.

David's barely aware of the new machinations already under way, too busy trying to catch himself up with ones just uncovered. Alone in the office, in the corridor, perhaps alone on the floor, he looks through papers with Abner's name printed in the corners. Reads information gathered and disseminated by a man who already knew more than anyone could have told him. The mission order is in here too, signed by Abner and countersigned by the king to send a man - the insurgent, Belial - to his death. To die by David's hand. Try as he might, he can't shift the finger on the trigger to the dead minister. That kill was his. He wouldn't have chosen not to make it.

But he's up at some unkind hour of the morning, reading about a dead man and trying to piece Belial's life together with the echo of the gunshot that killed him still ringing in his ears. He should have slept hours ago - days ago - the dull ache that underlays a slow developing bruise to his jaw throbs in time with a headache only closing his eyes will ease.

David keeps the lights burning. Just a while more.

Noa shook out his umbrella and folded it into itself before entering the apothecary. He'd heard about this elusive place from word of mouth, people whispering to each other in the library or diners about some "non-traditional" or "homeopathic" cure for all their ails, only to hush completely when an outside party's attention turned their way unintentionally or not. He didn't know why they were so secretive about the establishment, which concerned him, but with his issues troubling him as much as they were, he was willing to try anything to remedy them.

"Hello?" he called out. The herbal musk wafted under his nostrils and felt as if it swirled around him as he stepped further into the shop. He stopped at the register and looked around. "I was wondering if you had anything that could stop nightmares." The request sounded silly out of context, but the mind could command great power over the body, and he didn't need to get even sicker.

No. He couldn't believe they were all dead, along with the rest of the planet. Not while he still lived. He'd promised. To the day he died, they'd be protected. Even if that promise had only been to himself.

The ashes told him he'd failed. Miserably. Irrevocably. Irrefutably. His hands shook when he stopped, soiled boots crunched once more on crumbled material that had made up his life.

What should have been his bedroom. Gone, just like everything else. With the extent of the damage, he didn't expect to even find bones.

The prince couldn't help but shudder and twist in his sleep, restless with his horror-filled nightmare. Sweat slicked his body. But he wasn't waking up on his own.]

They had been trying to locate a cell of operatives in the deserts of Iran. Bruce was along to help with finding the nuclear weapons these guys were hiding.

But someone among their number was not with them. They hadn't even seen it coming. One moment, Bruce is working on watering the camels, the next he's hitting the sand with two darts in his side.

And waking up to find that the camels and everyone else is gone. He's lying in the sand under the beating hot sun by himself.

No, wait, not by himself. Bruce struggles to get up and crawls over to where Hawkeye is. Hopefully he's alright.
