Tunnel of Love: Or perhaps tunnel of mild boredom. The red-tinted lights and quasi-romantic music are meant to make this ride a great makeout spot, if the chemistry is there. 7. Hall of Mirrors: You and your partner entered, thinking it would be easy to get out again, but dead ends abound in this wacky mirror-maze, and each mirror seems to show a more and more distorted image of each of you. 8. Fortune Teller: Whether one of the creepy machines or the even creepier women dressed up in a culturally insensitive costume, you cross someone's palms with silver and get your future told. She slowly tries to make her way out of her corner, slipping by at least one of the twins.

"Woohoo! Freedom!"

And then bumps immediately into the nearest other person.

Kitty snickered a bit, try to maneuver around another pair of people colliding into each other. Someone else bumps into her from behind, though, sending her shooting forward a bit.

"Whoa!"

She spun the wheel, ending up - by chance - next to Kitty, and giving her car a nudge.

"Aha! Found you!"

She giggled, steering her car to bump Barbara's back.

"You just got lucky."

It was the last hit they could get before the round ended, and the power to the cars was switched off so they could exit for new passengers to take a turn.

She smiled, leaning on the wheel with her arms for a moment.

"Geez, that was fun. When was the last time I even did bumper cars?"

It was an open question for both of them, really.

"Man, I don't even know," Kitty said with a grin. "And so much easier than learning to drive for real."

Guess who was still practicing to get her license.

"Still?" she asked, clambering out of her car and stretching a little bit.

"I could give you a couple lessons, if you like. I mean, they'd be more than a little bit...business outfit lessons, but..."

She shrugs.

She sighs. "Yeeeeeah," she draws out as they follow the crowd out of the bumper car ring. "People don't seem to think I'm ready to get my license yet."

Which, in all fairness, she isn't, but she isn't about to admit that.

"I mean, I'm totally down to practice while I'm here, if you don't mind."

Nor will she do anything other than be 100% a backer of the Kittyist Cause on this one.

"I know a place, we can do some stuff. And I mean, honestly, you'd be better, right now, than like 50% of the drivers out there."

"I'm pretty sure most of the adults back at the Institute would disagree with you," she snickered. "Not that I understand why."

So she used her powers to phase through traffic sometimes. Who wouldn't?

"Yeah, well, tough tiddlywinks for them. That's how we roll, when we're on Team Kitty."

She emphasized it by giving her friend a gentle hip bump.

She giggled, returning the light bump.

"See, this why I like you."

It wasn't the only reason, but the older girl really knew how to make her feel good about herself.

There was so much, so much in Kitty's life that could drag her down. Villains and bigots and other assorted idiocy...it only made sense to carve out spaces like this. Places where she could just be.

"I don't blame you. I'm at least a little fun, and a willing partner in crime. Well, to a point."

With a grin, she gently nudged her again. "Well, it's a good thing we're on the same side."

At least then, most of their 'crimes' were the same.

She grinned, and winked.

"Thick and thin, and all that stuff."

They stepped down from the bumper cars, and she looked around and past the throng of people, just taking in the sights for a moment or two.

Her smile brightened. It had been quite a while since she's had a close friend outside of the Institute or who wasn't a fellow mutant. And while she loved them all dearly, getting to meet Barbara had been such a blessing.

As she glanced around as well, she noticed they were close to the Hall of Mirrors, and there seemed to be a line forming. "Wonder what's going on there?"

"Only one way to find out," she replied, turning onto another path with the practiced grace of a gymnast.

And it was for her, too. Someone close to her age who understood. The pressures, the strains, the unending weirdness it inflicted on one's personal life. And she was just fun in addition - she wasn't grim and doom and gloom all the time.

She had every right to be - yet wasn't. That was a remarkable human being.

As they neared the Hall of Mirrors, Kitty had to stand on her toes to try and see passed people. The drawbacks of being so short.

"Looks like they're having some kind of contest?" she said, from what she was able to make out. "They're giving a prize to whoever can get through the quickest."

She was considering that for a moment, then her head slowly turned towards Kitty.

"The fastest, you say." She said it with a smile sliding across her face. She jumped up and down on tip toes a few times.

"What's the prize? I can't make it out."

Still trying to peer over people, she shook her head.

"Looks like it's some kind of mystery prize." Then looking back at Barbara, she grinned. "But I bet we could find the fastest way, if we're curious enough for it."

"Of course!" And that was, she was certain, even if Kitty didn't decide to just skip her way straight through it.

"I'm so in!"

"Well then, what are we waiting for?" She took Barbara by the arm and they headed to the Hall of Mirrors, where people who were participating had to sign up and provide a phone number so they could call them if they won.

"Done and done!" she replied, following after Kitty.

She scrawled her number on the sign up sheet, regarding the building itself. It was a bit nicer than the usual things like this - which is a good sign for the old Gotham carnival. Things were looking up. It made her smile.

Optimist to her very core.

After Barbara provided her phone number, the two fell in line behind other people trying out the challenge. It was a bit slow, since groups were let in one at a time and they had to wait for the previous people to clear the Hall before the next participants were let in.

But soon enough it was Barbara and Kitty's turn to go, and after the coordinators at the start and end of the Hall get in contact so they can record their time, the two girls are let in.

She's ready to go from the start, keeping her arms out in front of her.

"So, any ideas? Other than the obvious one, I mean."
