[ That was his problem. He wasn't always on the same page with everyone. But, being called out, he can see why it might have been misleading. ]

I meant like [ he tries to explain ] as in, someone you like spending time with.

You don't just have sex with someone. You start out as friends.

[ At least, that's how he always envisioned it. Being a product of a quirk marriage, Todoroki has no desire for any transactional partners. ]

[ That question makes Bakugou pause. Is it even a question, or is Todoroki just trying to turn his statement into one so it sounds better? Bakugou doesn't know, but he sure knows how he feels about himself. Not that he's gonna talk to Todoroki about it, though. ]

Mine will probably change. [ He's confesses. ] Not right now, but later.

[ the great thing- if bakugou can even call it that- is that todoroki doesn't pry. sometimes he calls his bullshit, and other times he's absolutely and completely clueless.]

Great. How fun for you. I'm sure you'll marry her right after.

I don't want to get married.

[ It's the first time he's said it aloud or told anyone, but it feels right. Just a simple truth. After seeing what his mother went through, enduring the abuses of his father. The loss of his older brother. Todoroki didn't want anything to do with something like that. ]

Maybe it's supposed to mean something to normal people.

[ And, if there's one thing he's learned since starting the hero course in UA it's that they weren't like everyone else.

Bakugou. [ He looks at him. ] Why did you think I'd want to get married when you don't want to either?

Yeah, they're probably bored to death with their lives and have nothing better to talk about.

[They're not normal people, it's true. Bakugou won't even deny that. The funny thing is though, that despite them not being normal, they're sitting around here talking about it too.

Then he raises an eyebrow]

I don't fucking know. Because you want to like people. You smile at them sometimes.

[ Look. He's still not aware of this phenomenon. ]

Well... I don't want to be how I was before.

[ His encounter with Inasa made him realize a lot of things. Maybe if he had let go of his hate sooner, he could have worked on controlling his fire from back then and been stronger for it. ]

So, I'm trying to understand our classmates more.

[ Understand them. Not shut them out like he had with Inasa. ]

Yeah. You do.

[It's a stupid smile, Bakugou wants to remind him, but he doesn't need it to get turned around again.]

And how's that going for you?

[ He touches the edge of his mouth. ]

I didn't know.

[ He's a warm kid at heart. He just iced over his emotions for so long, he doesn't really know how to warm up to people. ]

I feel like I've made some progress, but that's because everyone in Class A is striving toward the same goal as us. [ He looks at him. ] I think, if you got to know them better, you'd probably end up liking a few of them more than you do yourself.

[ He seems to be doing a better job of it than Bakugou, so he can't really ay anything about it.

At least he exudes plenty of fake confidence. He'd rather be seen this way than as helpless as he often feels. ]

Fat chance. Anyway, you're all gonna have to rework your goals pretty soon, so maybe you all should be focusing on that instead.
